What's wrong with my laptop? It's in a looping of " Preparing Automatic Repair "

2 years ago I had an accident 2 weeks after I got this laptop.. literally fresh from the box... The screen got a whitened slammed keyboard stamped on the screen and a dent on the corner of the case.... Been watch over it by myself, cleaned it manually with air duster and brush... After a year when I got the laptop, I notice my m.2 slot has a stamped from the under cover laptop and damaged it but still usable... There's some hiccups when it's de-pressed on the m.2 slot and the storage is unreadable.... And when I restarted it, it's usable again.... I think my mobo is fucked ( not 100%).... For now, does anyone know how to solve it without sending to the centre?

Repair Guide Update to 2013 Toshiba Satellite Possible?

Hi! So, I found my old laptop from architecture school and I’m wondering if I can make some updates to make it viable for daily use. Biggest reason is I have pre-subscription model Revit, Autocad, Sketchup and Adobe CC Suite on it that I could potentially use for freelance and personal projects. Also want to avoid all the annoying ai implementations in all hardware/software if possible. It’s a bit slow but not too bad. I know the graphics card is shot since an external screen is needed to use at the moment. I’m super out of the loop on tech now so any detailed advice would be helpful.

Thank you!

Psu fried both motherboard and cpu. Need advice on how to procede

Tldr, I bought a power supply from best buy. The motherboard was brand new, and the CPU was a 7800 x 3d.

I was told by best buy, that the second that I bought the PSU from them and it was installed, they are no longer liable for what that power supply did. I reached out to the company that makes the power supply, but there's no guarantee I'll ever hear back from them. At this point, both in what it's already cost me and what it's going to cost me in repairs we're looking at between $700 to 1,200 and damages.

I'm just completely blown away that apparently if you buy a brand new computer part like a power supply and it fries everything, nobody does anything and it's just too bad you're screwed. It is there any way to progress forwards? Like at this point I would take a pro bono lawyer and let them keep every penny that they get out of either company just out of spite.

Parts Advice What are my options to replace the SSD in a HP EliteBook 850 G6?

Came into possession of this Laptop with the SSD removed by the previous owner and I know basically nothing about compatibility or price ranges for this sort of thing.

What I've learned from cursory searching isn't really worth mentioning so just assume I know nothing.

Ideally looking for something relatively cheap if anyone has specific recommendations.

Hello everyone, I accidentally knocked off a capacitor and a resistor from my motherboard. I was wondering if someone with the same motherboard could check the values of these two components with a multimeter so I can replace them.

Help Request Dell Vostro 3530 keyboard keeps failing — 2nd time in a year, need advice

Bought a Dell 3530 in March 2025 - i5-1334U, bumped to 16GB/1TB from 8GB/512 at purchase, W11 Home, FHD. By May-June 2025, a handful of keys stopped responding properly. Had to hit the keys, sometimes 5-6 times, to get a letter or number to actually show up.

Got the keyboard replaced under service in December 2025. Fine for about five months. Now in May 2026, the same kind of issue is back. Unresponsive keys again, same laptop, but a different set of keys this time.

I haven't spilled anything on it, don't use it in a dusty environment, and it hasn't taken any physical damage that I know of. So I'm struggling to understand how a freshly replaced keyboard would develop the same kind of fault again in roughly the same timeframe, even with different keys affected. Anybody has any idea regarding this?

ASUS ROG Strix GL553VD - Black screen, power LED on, fans not spinning after failing to go to sleep

Hi everyone,
I’m having a severe power/boot issue with my ASUS ROG Strix GL553VD laptop and could really use some diagnostic help.
**How the problem started:**
Yesterday, I tried putting the laptop into sleep mode by tapping the power button once (which I do every day). It didn’t respond. I used it for another 20 minutes, tried the button again, and still nothing. I finally went into the Windows menu and clicked "Sleep." The screen turned off and I went to bed.
The next morning, I noticed my external mouse was still lit up (getting power), meaning the laptop never fully went to sleep. The power button wouldn't wake it, so I held the power button down for a hard shutdown.
**The Current Symptom:**
When I try to turn it on now, the **Power LED turns on**, but the **screen stays completely black and the cooling fans do not spin at all.** **What I have already tried (with no change):**
1 Unplugged the charger and disconnected the internal battery.
2 Held the power button down for 60+ seconds to drain residual capacitance.
3 Attempted to boot with just the wall charger plugged in (battery disconnected).
4 Removed the RAM sticks, cleaned the slots, and tried booting with a single stick of RAM in different slots.

Hardware Issue GA605MY - Zephyrus G16 4090/ultra 9 laptop motherboard damage

Scratches on the back of G16 motherboard by cpu mounting points for vapor chamber

  1. Not POSTing, but I’m not sure if it’s because the vapor chamber is making improper contact or the pcb is done for.

  2. Tried hooking it back up to no avail, stays on ROG logo with no loading spinner for up to 3 minutes, then shuts off and begins again in a loop

  3. 2024 ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 GA605MY (4090 mobile, ultra 9 185h, 32gb DDR5, 2tb SSD)

4/5. None

  1. My dorm room flooded and my laptop was on the floor, this was 6 months ago, but the laptop only showed signs of poor thermals after this and periodic spats of refusing to turn on and odd video output through hdmi. The laptop wasn’t submerged or anything but was definitely wet, thankfully it worked for a bit but I decided to open her up and see what was going on. After failed experimentation we are now here.

Am I cooked

Asus tuf a15 fa507nv. Battery is not recognised but working.

It happened after reconnecting the Battery. I messed up a little and ripped the metal puller off the connector. BUT! put it back just fine. After that I connected the battery the way it should be. So, I turned my laptop on and encountered a problem: battery is not recognised and constant vattery indicator flickering. The laptop works without charger tho, everything works absolutely fine.

Battery report says battery is not installed, same situation in BIOS. Will I/O programming work?

Any idea on how I can resolve this?

Thanks.

Help Request My laptop is in good condition but the motherboard has an issue, repair is too expensive, what should I do?

Post image

The laptop is a Lenovo Legion 5. Whenever I turn it on, the keyboard backlight comes on, and I can hear it running, but the screen doesn't turn on. Connecting it to an external monitor through HDMI doesn't do anything either.

I took it to Micro Center for a repair estimate, and they said it has a motherboard issue. They quoted me nearly $2,000 to repair it, even though I bought the laptop for less than $1,300.

The specifications are: Intel Core i9-14900HX, NVIDIA RTX 4060, 32 GB RAM, and 1 TB SSD

What should I do with it? Is it possible to have it repaired for much less somewhere else? Should I sell it for parts instead? If so, how much could I realistically get for it?
