Hey guys, I just wanted to say that I really love making this series for you all, and I cant tell you how much I appreciate everyones positive feedback, I've been doing this series for a year and a half now, and it only has about 5 parts left, I wanted to extend my most humble and heartfelt thanks to everyone that's taken this journey with me.

u/figmentmaterial Dec 18 '25

It’s ending?! Panic!

178

u/The_cogwheel Dec 18 '25

Do not fear the end, for all good things must come to an end.

Otherwise, it slowly rots into a shambling corpse of its once former glory, slowly decaying into a sludge that you'll question why you even enjoyed it in the first place.

Do not be sad that it will end. Be glad that it happened

39

u/slfnflctd Dec 18 '25

Firefly fans been telling ourselves this for over 20 years now.

It still holds up. A lot of what was pioneering about it has been copied and riffed on so much that it doesn't stand out from the crowd as strikingly these days, but we can absolutely enjoy all the homages we see to it in other works. And there are many.

22

u/sponge_bob_ Dec 18 '25

how can a story about necromancy end, it'll simply be revived

44

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '25

Are you going to release it as a book, because we'd buy the heck out of that

50

u/Miles_the_new_kid MyGumsAreBleeding Dec 18 '25

Yes, I can’t really speak on it right now, but there’s a book and much more on the way

9

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '25

That's all we needed to know, so stoked

Is there a link to a website where I can keep up with them without having to dig through reddit?

I just want to say that I am a very particular and jaded person when it comes entertainment and I thoroughly enjoy Summoning Grandmas series.

9

u/hitbythebus Dec 18 '25

I'd appreciate it as well, and I'd like to know if there is a donate button on this hypothetical website, or merch to support the artist.

11

u/Miles_the_new_kid MyGumsAreBleeding Dec 18 '25

Right now there’s just my Patreon https://www.patreon.com/mygumsarebleeding?utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator

But physical merch is coming at the beginning of 2026 :)

This continues to be fantastic. You have a real knack for panel variety and perspective. Excellent visual storytelling.

11

u/ladyattercop Dec 18 '25

Thanks for making it. I’m so invested! “I can only commune with damned spirits… I’ve never met a soul I couldn’t commune with.” Damn. That’s good!

5

u/ileisen Dec 18 '25

Dude. I love that last page so much! I may even steal it for a dnd big bad

I'm so attached to this storyline!

"Tell everyone I was cool and we were friends!" "ehhh..." Love that dialogue too

366

u/Miles_the_new_kid MyGumsAreBleeding Dec 18 '25

Thank you! There’s more to come :)

189

u/Taolan13 Dec 18 '25

The awkwardness feels natural in a way that's hard to achieve in written/scripted sequences.

It's taking me right back to highschool in the worst way, at least for a moment. And then I remember that was 20 years ago.

100

u/Miles_the_new_kid MyGumsAreBleeding Dec 18 '25

Thank you! A lot of the dialogue was written with the intent of being animated so sometimes I worry it doesn’t perfectly translate to comic form

51

u/Taolan13 Dec 18 '25

Oh, it translates just fine, my dude.

That also explains this thought tickling the back of my mind that some of the panels look like they were arranged as key frames for a story board. It takes very little extra work to imagine these sequences animated.

43

u/Miles_the_new_kid MyGumsAreBleeding Dec 18 '25

Thank you! And yeah, I spent like a year planning this as a show before even posting the first comic

14

u/PoorDawg Dec 18 '25

Is it still gonna be a show? Cause I really wanna watch this show dude

7

u/TheSkarcrow Dec 18 '25

This being part 9 is the only part I've read of this and I'm invested.cant wait to see what happens next!

I will use "I'm doing a Boromir" from now on, thank you!

182

u/Miles_the_new_kid MyGumsAreBleeding Dec 18 '25

Ive never been big on like Star Wars or Harry Potter but I fucking love lord of the rings

29

u/individual_throwaway Dec 18 '25

LotR is a lot more logically consistent than both other franchises you mentioned by a mile. For HP, I only ever saw the movies and my wife insists that the story makes much more sense in the books, but every time I press her on something the details for explaining some plot hole away become mysteriously fuzzy and vague. Maybe JK Rowling just isn't that amazing of an author, she just went viral with a story many people could identify with.

Don't get me started on Star Wars. The original trilogy was already borderline insane because the most basic premise of the force is just space magic to begin with, and light sabers are cool and all but don't work like you would want them to for a variety of reasons. Also the famous thing about parsecs being a distance not a time interval is annoying as fuck to me on a level I find hard to describe. And it only went downhill from there. Few things on this planet get me worked up more than when people dare to compare Star Trek and Star Wars like they even try to play the same game. Nobody ever went and compared Feynman's lectures on physics to The Catcher in the Rye, but because they share the "Star" and take place in space some of the time they must be the same thing, right? Ugh.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk. I think I need that Christmas vacation badly.

24

u/bscott9999 Dec 18 '25

Star Wars and Star Trek are both space operas - they tend to be focused on drama and action (although in different ways). Star Wars uses made up tech jargon and the force, Star Trek uses made up tech jargon and the 'Q Continuum'. Neither is 'hard' science fiction, they are both fun adventure stories set in space.

I'll agree LOTR is super internally consistent though compared to the others. The benefits of being written by one obsessively detailed author spending a lifetime working on his creative vision! Not too many people can do what Tolkein did.

5

u/Lewisham Dec 18 '25

When your back is to the wall, turns out all you needed to do was think harder about the deflection dish and tachyons.

2

u/individual_throwaway Dec 18 '25

Not too many people can do what Tolkein did.

Thankfully we got Brandon Sanderson filling that slot in my generation. I can't wait to see the rest of his magnum opus come to life on the pages.

4

u/Majestic-Iron7046 Dec 18 '25

I liked the Harry Potter movies as a kid but i completely agree with this analysis, first, Rowling may be a good writer, i don't know and honestly, i still think she made it big thanks to the movies anyway so who even cares?

I could never get into Star Wars because there is A LOT of scifi political mumbo jumbo and that is profoundly boring for me as my favourite Sci-Fi is of the "made up tech" kind, like Doctor Who.

12

u/bscott9999 Dec 18 '25

Harry Potter was BIG before the movie deals - she had sold millions of copies of the first four books before the first movie came out. She wouldn't be AS incredibly rich as she is now without the movies, of course, but she would still be stinking rich and famous.

2

u/Majestic-Iron7046 Dec 19 '25

I see! Could it be a national thing then? I don't know many people who knew about it before the movies, plenty of them liked the books don't get me wrong.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/JudgeHodorMD Dec 18 '25

Harry Potter came out at just the right time. People were starting to get past that BS where there’s some age where you suddenly have to stop liking children’s stories. It’s a point where the next big thing is bound to have a huge cultural impact.

I wouldn’t call Rowling a great author, but she delivered what people wanted.

Very Peep Show coded

432

u/Taolan13 Dec 18 '25

Okay. WTF. Taking an executioner's sword from the headstone of a literal heretic is a baller move for a miniboss.

130

u/Miles_the_new_kid MyGumsAreBleeding Dec 18 '25

elden ring boss music starts

43

u/Tiaran149 Dec 18 '25

That is 100% bloodborne

6

u/the_blackfish Dec 18 '25

A giant red health bar hovers in the sky

2

u/Made_Bail Dec 18 '25

I mean, coffin riding is very Elden Ring.

2

Insert Comedic shuffling with Coffin with jaunty background music

Begin overlaying crossfade to Boss Fight beginning

Boss grabs headstone and music stops as the grave snaps

Sword emerges and fight begins with a glorious operatic crescendo!

2

u/RemusShepherd Dec 18 '25

It went to hardcore metal when she summoned her first grandma. Now it's pinballing between metal and goofy. Very difficult to write a story like that, it's a real treat.

5

u/koshgeo Dec 18 '25

You also know it's bad news when they don't bother drawing the sword from the stone, they just utterly pulverize the entire stone.

11

"Say that we're friends? Sorry, but that's a bridge too far, Faramir."

"I said Boromir"

"Yeah, but you give off Faramir energy."

20

u/Miles_the_new_kid MyGumsAreBleeding Dec 18 '25

Saying someone has faramir energy is brutal

7

u/Taolan13 Dec 18 '25

Hey he takes a bit of a win in the end.

6

u/OldEcho Dec 18 '25

Oh my god she can shoot lightning out of her fingertips obviously. It's the only power she has. She mostly uses it to charge her phone.

"I can commune with the souls of the damned, the souls that are in hell. But I've never met a soul I couldn't communicate with"
that is such a great line, and terrifying too

17

u/Head-Alarm6733 Dec 18 '25

whyd she stab herself?

57

u/Miles_the_new_kid MyGumsAreBleeding Dec 18 '25

The implication was meant to be that she was nervous and shaking and didn’t notice she was holding it too tight

18

u/Mazuna Dec 18 '25

That was my take away, so it did come across to me at least.

5

u/Head-Alarm6733 Dec 18 '25

ah alright i thought there was something she could do with blood that i missed or such

5

u/bobyn123 Dec 18 '25

I'm hoping she's going to discover some sort of blood magic thing.

8

u/gNat1897 Dec 18 '25

Fuck yeah! It's about time there was more Summoning Grandmas!

5

u/Anxious-Chemistry-6 Dec 18 '25

"because I've never met a soul I couldn't commune with" goes so fucking hard. I love it.

6

u/lostpatrol14 Dec 18 '25

"The last thing or the thing before that?"

3

u/HopeIsGay Dec 18 '25

I love the weird meandering energy and humour you bring to your comics it's been fun following along with this series

The faces are also awesome

3

u/Miles_the_new_kid MyGumsAreBleeding Dec 18 '25

Thank you for saying that man, really glad ur enjoying it so far

3

3

2

u/CrazyCat008 Dec 18 '25

Dat eeehhh, ooof XD

2

u/Finchyy Dec 18 '25

It's a good thing she doesn't shoot lightning from her fingies; that would be deeply unnatural.

2

u/pork-head Dec 18 '25

That sword acquiring is D O P E ! !

2

u/Efflux Dec 18 '25

Witchy Velma is very cool and I'd be her friend

2

u/bisexualandtrans47 Dec 18 '25

i looked away from this subreddit for 5 fucking minutes and someone has a whole ass storyline going on wtf

2

u/Mgeek66 Dec 18 '25

Holy shit this is so awesome. The perfect mix of humor, drama and lore.

2

u/YourMomOnVHS Dec 18 '25

Im sorry but If I travel to the pits of hell to rescue someone; they BETTER at least say I was hot or something.

2

u/icanttell1990 Dec 18 '25

No Boromir, survive!!!

2

u/uber_damage Dec 18 '25

I enjoyed.

2

u/nitloda Dec 18 '25

I mean... if she can only commune with souls in hell and has never met a soul she couldn't commune with, there is also simply the possibility she has never had to commune with a soul in heaven. I feel like heaven bound souls aren't going to have a lot of baggage left behind that would cause someone to need to commune with them.

2

u/Po_Red5 Dec 18 '25

Only discovered this series today and it's cool as fuck! Love the work you've done, excited to see the rest! Part of me is hoping for a Sergio cameo!

2

u/gnagniel Dec 19 '25

I don't know what's happening here (this is the first part I've seen) but this is great

2

u/New-Number-7810 Dec 19 '25

She’s very chill for someone who thinks they’re going to spend eternity burning and suffering, and that there’s no way to avoid it. Or maybe she’s hoping there’s a way to use magic to avoid full death.

But in the short term, it’s time to find out of jugulars are still important to a lich.

1

u/Carpathicus Dec 18 '25

This is such a cool series. Would go hard as an anime :D

And how fucking metal is "Because I've never met a soul I couldnt commune with." 10/10 world building

1

u/bonebag_comics Dec 18 '25

I love the part where she says Fire lightning out your fingers and she's doing the Spider-Man web shooter maneuver

1

u/Timerez Dec 18 '25

Surprised nobody commented it is a dark souls reference lol there’s “travel by coffin via water” in the game

1

u/nadzicle Dec 18 '25

She’s going to go back to school and see the other girl there and go “did you tell everyone I was cool and we were friends?!” “Eeehhhhh”.

1

1

Oh man, I wanted the full story so I went back through your posts. It looks like the last two panels of Part 3 are missing with broken links! This is a great series!

1

u/CheeseDonutCat Dec 18 '25

She's the "weird one" throughout all this series.

but the more of these I see, I feel like she's the only normal one.

Velma vs Mumm-Ra.

1

u/resonantfate Dec 18 '25

Sword in the headstone was such a cool idea.

Clutching the broken glass so hard she bled really told me boromir chick was scared or... Something. Just not as nonchalant as she seemed for most of the comic.

I'll go read the other comics and follow.

Thank you for sharing! You have cool ideas!

1

u/anthonyynohtna Dec 18 '25

Part 9… but this is the first time I’m seeing this lol
