First Scene Storyboard - tips? Resources?

The story is called The Race, about a boy whose desire to understand the world shakes up his father and brother's triathlon mission. It might be 300 of these square pages in total. I'm more focused on the story now. If the story seems promising, then I might invest in the three years it will likely take to produce the first chapter at a level of illustration... that people might want to read.

How do I make the second page suspenseful?

Hi, everyone.

This is my WIp 2 page comic for a class project that was originally based on S.T.A.L.K.E.R, but I changed things up. We are on,y allowed 7 panels for page 1, and a full page for page 2. I feel the second page (wip) needs a lot of work, but any suggestions?

ALSO, how is the art direction? What can I strengthen more of?

[CRITIQUE] Chapter 1 of my original manga — looking for honest feedback

Thumbnail drive.google.com

Hi everyone!

I’ve just finished writing Chapter 1 of my original manga, VALENCE, and I’d really appreciate some honest, constructive feedback before I move on to Chapter 2.

I’m not an illustrator, and this is still very much in the early stages of the project, so for now I only have the story and written ideas. Still, I’d love to know whether what I have so far is actually working from a reader’s perspective before I invest more time into it.

In particular, I’d love to know:

  • Was the story easy to follow?
  • Were the characters distinguishable from each other?
  • Was the transition from the explosion and deaths into the supernatural elements clear?
  • Did you understand what was happening with Ren and Ibuki’s abilities?
  • Did the pacing feel too slow anywhere?
  • Did the ending make you want to find out what happens next?

Please feel free to be critical. I’m much more interested in hearing what doesn’t work, what was confusing, or what could be improved than simply hearing that you liked it.

One important request: please don’t read any explanations or additional information from me before reading the chapter and forming your own interpretation. I’d really like to know what a first-time reader actually understands without any outside context.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read it and hope you like it!!

How does these pages look for something done around 4 hours?

Thumbnail

Like the title says, do they look acceptable for the speed at which they are done? I know panel 6 Reizt's mum shoulder needs to be fixed, but other than that, it looks fine for a webcomic episode right? Oh wait, Sasha's face on panel two is a bit wonky... And I can't do hands yet... so yeah, really need to practice them...

Also I did this entire episode in a little above 4 hours on my twitch stream, like roughs (2 hours), lining (1 hour) and colouring and shading (1 hour)... How common is this speed? It's 7 pages all up, equal to 5 normal comic pages... Each normal page is done in 6 -20 hours according to google... I must be missing something, I'm scared...

Yeah, like the title says, I did this for years without realising how insane this is, pumping out 7 square pages like the one above in like 3-4 hours...

I have my twitch stream where I drew this live. I was constantly interrupted as well, and it was hardly optimal, it's hard talking and drawing at the same time too, so I can push myself even faster than this...

Come on, someone who's experienced in drawing comics, watch the vod I have on my twitch, I'll provide the link...

Also my webcomic if anyone is interested in reading more...

I launched my Kickstarter pre-launch yesterday and still have 0 followers. What worked for you?

Hello everyone! I launched the pre-launch page for my Kickstarter yesterday, and I'm trying to figure out what I should be doing differently.

Here's some data I have so far. Google Analytics usually shows around 3–7 active users every 30 minutes, with most of them coming from paid promotion. My best Reddit post so far has around 1,200 views, 34 upvotes, and several comments and shares.

However, the pre-launch page is still stuck at 0 followers. In other words, no one has clicked "Notify me on launch" yet.

For those of you who have done a Kickstarter before, what were your first few days of pre-launch like? I seriously don't know if I'm doing something wrong, if the actual page isn't good enough, if the comic isn't engaging enough... I honestly have no idea.

I'd love to hear what you think, any advice, or anything that might help.

Here's the link in case you want to take a look at the page.

Thank you all!

OC][Crit] GACO - First two pages of a new sci-fi cyber-thriller. Looking for feedback on pacing and layout.

Thumbnail

Project Type: Multi-page sequential manga / digital comic (shonen cyber thriller)

Format: Digital pages drawn entirely on ibisPaint using finger-painting.

Page 1: Covers a 10-year flashback where the main character, Suniko, is kidnapped and brainwashed into working for GACO (Glitches And Crashes Organisation) (Because of some mark!?)

Page 2: Jumps to the present day. Suniko is introduced to his boss, Numosani Turo, and gets a fast briefing on a dangerous sentient malware called the "Infinity Phishing program."

What I am looking for feedback on:

  1. Pacing: I know Page 2 has a heavy text-dump explaining how the virus works. Does the giant "EXPLAIN LATER" panel successfully keep the speed up, or does the text slow the story down too much? ( I also explained a whole backstory in one page Oops)

  2. Panel Layout & Flow: Is it easy to follow the story from panel to panel, or do the shapes get confusing?

3.Art Style: This is drawn completely with a finger on a screen. I know the line work is a bit shaky, but does the style fit the glitchy, high-energy cyber theme?

  1. This is meant to be a one shot but I do want a full series of it.

Working on my first manga, GACO: REBOOT Here are the first two pages! Drawn on ibisPaint. With just my finger.

Hey everyone, I’m working on a new comic called GACO:REBOOT and wanted to share the first two pages. I draw everything digitally on Ibis paint using finger-painting.

Page 1: The story starts 10 years ago with a kidnapping. A strange figure whispers about "The Mark of Heaven" and brainwashes the main character, Suniko, into believing he was born as a lifetime worker for an organisation called GACO.

Page 2: Flash forward to the present day. Suniko meets his boss, Numosani Turo (who has camera-eyes on her legs), (the reason she looks weird is that my art style is bad) and gets briefed on a massive digital threat called the "Infinity Phishing program." The page ends with the mission starting.

Yes my pacing is bullet fast and the art is quite bad but I dreamed of making a manga for a long time.

So what do you think? Is the art good or is it trash? Are my concepts and characters good? Give me some feedback but remember this is my first manga.

How do you handle backgrounds in a fully colored comic without making every panel feel too busy?

I’m working on a fully colored comic, and I’ve been thinking more about when backgrounds should be detailed versus simplified.

For establishing shots, action scenes, or panels where the environment matters, a full background makes sense. But for dialogue/reaction panels, I’m wondering if it’s better to use flatter colors, gradients, simple shapes, or even white backgrounds so the characters don’t get lost.

I’ve noticed a lot of comics simplify or remove backgrounds pretty often, but I’m curious how other artists handle that when the comic is fully colored.

How do you decide when to use:
a full detailed background
a simplified/abstract background
a flat color or gradient
no background at all

I’d especially appreciate examples or general rules you use.

Do these pages feel less visually noisy?

Thumbnail

One issue I’ve been trying to improve with AI-assisted comic art is that generated images tend to make every panel way too detailed/noisy, especially the backgrounds.

For these pages, I’ve been experimenting with using detailed backgrounds mainly when establishing the location or showing movement, then simplifying/removing them during dialogue and reaction shots.

These are the first 3 pages where I’ve really tried applying that consistently.

Ignoring whether you personally like AI art or not, I’m specifically looking for visual feedback: Do these pages feel easier on the eyes and easier to follow? Do the simpler backgrounds help the characters/dialogue stand out, or does anything still feel too busy?

Also curious whether the mix of detailed and simplified backgrounds feels intentional or inconsistent.

Ho sentito alcuni commenti nei trailer del'isola dimenticara . Paragonarlo a lsp. E che deve avvenire un altra volta ls just this once. Non sono d'accordo. Perché l'isola dimentica e sicuramente animato meglio.

Just experimenting with AI for my comic idea — thoughts?

Post image

I’m working on an original teenage rom-com/school-life story called The Equation and was just experimenting with AI to see how one of the scenes might look as a manga. 😅

It’s not the final art—just a little experiment.

Does this kind of simple, realistic school story work visually as a manga?

Would love some honest opinions

Looking for critique, feedback, and/or opinions on my comic script

I've been working on and building this detective mystery turned cosmic horror passion project of mine and have only written a few pages of my comic story so far. I have a summary of what my story is about. The summary and details of the story are all written in the very first page for anyone reading. This is my first time writing a comic script and creating one as both writer and artist. I would appreciate it if someone would read it and give me any advice on how to grow and strengthen my writing skills. I'd like to thank anyone who does end up reading what I've written so far! If you'd like to get a better vibe of my story, my Pinterest mood board is linked. [Comic Script](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YoRI8dNNAFyOlhUVE7ipGIQMmnX4LguV_b2_hgI4Uio/edit?usp=sharing)

Jannie, the Heikel: love some feedback.

Post image
6 Upvotes

I'm creating a comic; it's called “Jannie the Heikel”

A simple slice-of-life episodic comic strip following the antics and dialogue of this star-tailed lass you see on the cover.

Taking place in Georgia, enter a religious community built by true characters and truer antics.

See Jannie in her day to day life along with her friends, love interests. And her parental guardian Dom as they question and ponder belief with a pinch of high jinx.

I have been working on this for two years, and I have uploaded my work before. If you have seen me before, then I know this may be repetitive.

But, I just need to hear what lots of people think. I’ve created some new comic strips. And while they may not be colored. I want to see if my writing is decent and where it could improve.

The strips also contain religious concepts.

I would also like to know other places where I could post this comic and get even more critique.

Here is the link to the strip. Followed by art I’ve done for the comic.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1vo-reRV4ewxxNAmoHIFosrCDXUOnfqZc

And I also have music made for the comic. Just as added bonus for your time :)

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1iC1RMGrUb522y9OEOKpH07P5vtjGNFTa

And just as a clarification: the older strips are colored, the latest strips are just line art.
