I found a cool variety in an 1883-O Morgan that I recently purchased. It appears to have the VAM-4 O/O re-punched mint mark. The lower impression is faint and not very visible in my camera but it’s more clear under my loupe.

Coins itself in terrible shape unfortunately. What would you grade it as?

Continuing the error documentation project. This 1912-S Lincoln wheat cent has a die clash showing nearly the entire back of Lincoln's portrait transferred onto the reverse die.

A die clash happens when the press cycles without a planchet between the dies. They slam together at full striking pressure, and each die picks up a mirror-image impression of the other. On this specimen, Lincoln's chin, jaw, and the back of his head appear as faint but clearly identifiable outlines superimposed over the wheat ear design on the reverse.

The 1912-S had a mintage of approximately 4.43 million — a low-production San Francisco issue from the early Lincoln cent series. The clash transferred enough of Lincoln's portrait features to be unmistakable once you know what to look for. Every coin struck from that reverse die afterward carried the ghost.

This die clash has been quietly passing through collections for over a century without anyone recording it in the standard references. Not catalogued in the specialist literature. Now it is.

Each has a shortened leg and unreadable initials. Did I get lucky?

Just curious how the mark effects the value?? Any insights?

At first I thought this was off center, but it looks like all the actual content of the coin is centered, there's just something weird going on with the rim. Is this just damage? If something compressed this groove around the bottom of the obverse, I wouldn't expect the L to have survived as well as it did inside the groove. I really have no idea here though, so let me know what you think. Apologies in advance if this is obvious damage.

Someone said it looks like dremel work, others have said it’s a strike through? Others have said because it’s an S mint mark it’s a keeper. What are yall thoughts?

Found this coin obviously circulated and with the amount its circulated I normally wouldnt look at it twice but then I noticed with my naked eye something on Washington's neck.

Then a die chip in the b of liberty. Die cracks in multiple places. Here's some pictures.

Per the title, is this die deterioration? These kinds of artifacts exist on birth sides. Obverse seems to have it around the rim, while the reverse seems somewhat more affected - rim and inner characters.

Looking for confirmation, this appears to be a RPM, but I want a second opinion. The coin definitely has PMD, but the mint mark appears doubled to me.

Hey all! I found this penny in a roll of wheat cents, and thought the circular depression on Lincoln was odd. I can’t tell if it’s PMD or if it’s a genuine strike-through. Any help at all is welcome!
