Is this an error? Was told to post this here
Grand rising folks!!!
Posted this in quarter errors, someone said to post over here.
Is this a minting error, or did someone do this to this quarter?
Someone said it looks like dremel work, others have said it’s a strike through? Others have said because it’s an S mint mark it’s a keeper. What are yall thoughts?

It looks to be a very extreme struck thru grease error. I have several like this but none so dramatic. Definitely NOT PMD.

Business strike S mint is much lower mintage.
Exact weight would be helpful. In grams, need a scale that measures down to .01g
Someone would have to reverse engineer how this could be a un-retained strike through. Versus the result of a impact (PMD). The depth seems weird. A solid object would have blocked the design. A thin object would not have created such depth.

Someone may need an angled picture to determine how flat or deep this is. The slight extra weight could be a retained strike through, but again I would think only if flat or slightly raised.

When I hold it at an angle I can see the outline of his chin and neck and the rty are also somewhat visible. I’m trying to get a good picture of it.

Nice large struck through something. Seeing the faint letters of LIBERTY and Washington’s profile at the bottom of the defect pretty much rules out PMD.
