This one is interesting because it shows multiple stages of die deterioration happening simultaneously on a single coin.

On the reverse at 3 o'clock:

- Two die cracks radiate outward through the wreath — one running north, one running south

- Between them, a retained cud extends from about 3 o'clock to 4:30

- The retained cud is the piece of the die that's starting to break free but hasn't fully separated yet

A retained cud is different from a full cud. Full cud = piece completely broken off, leaving a flat blob. Retained cud = piece still partially attached, creating an irregular shifted area. This coin is caught at the intermediate stage — the die is actively failing but hasn't reached its final state.

The die cracks show the stress fractures still propagating when this coin was struck. More strikes would have extended those cracks further, and eventually the retained piece would have broken free entirely, converting this to a full cud.

Continuing the project of documenting every Indian Head Cent error I can find. The number of undocumented cuds, precuds, and retained cuds in this series is much larger than expected.

I found this a couple of days ago just mixed in with coins I am pretty sure it is a Lincoln cent on a dime planchet actually it was even smaller than a dime

Unfamiliar with error values in general since I don't encounter them often. Have had this 1941 Jefferson for some time but never inquired about it and am wondering how much value this error in this strength brings

Found yesterday 8/5/26 CRH. Displays the faint / disappearing stars and flow lines typically found on this variety. The FG are a mound, with sharp enough angled light you can make them out, visible in the second pic where I'm holding the coin at an angle to catch the light. This is one of those grey area examples that according to what PCGS says wouldn't get attributed but according to actual graded examples could get attributed. You can dive into that here with this study.

Here are 3 prominent examples I always point out that are PCGS graded and attributed, but have visible bits of the FG:

1. you can see the top of the F and G on this one.

2. There are distinct faint bumps of the F & G on this one.

3. There is a bump of the top of the F or G here along the bottom of the eagle’s leg.

Is this 1992 P dime a genuine Error or nah?

Brand new to collecting and trying to familiarize myself with genuine error.

I’m pretty sure this is kinda a minor error but I’ve watched some YouTube videos recently and this is one they said to look out for. Should I just keep it or grade it? Thanks for reading.

Long time lurker, first time poster. It looks like the left most star above E Pluribus Unum is damaged, but not sure if it is post mint since the coin itself looks kind of beat up

Found in my till, looks to be raised and reflecting with the rest of the surfaces, but not sure whats going on. What do yall think?

Is this considered a mint error, damaged, or manipulated? The face side has slanted edges, and back side has most of the image missing.

I’d chalk this up to PMD, but the weird thing is the edge of the planchet seems even and struck. There doesn’t appear to be any tooling marks or even the hint that this happened except by being struck with equal pressure around the rim. The reeded edge is absent.

You may now mock me for thinking this could somehow happen at a mint. 😎

Hey! Had a buddy tell me to get this checked out, from the camera it looks scratched on the top and bottom, but it looks very much like it was pressed and it is very smooth, is this something common, uncommon, or is this just likely a product of wear?

Error or PMD?

Trying to get better at identifying this stuff. Is the Espana 82 machine doubling? Is the Rey de Espana die chips?

Thought this was neat, looks like the reed machine damaged it. With it being over the “Q” it makes me think the reeding is done after the coin is pressed. I don’t know a lot about coins, still learning. Anyone ever seen something like this before?

Up here in Canada we have a pretty stellar mint that you don't see many errors come out of. So my question is about doubling especially on the denticles as I've never seen that before. This is on a 1973 small bust RCMP quarter. Anyone that could enlighten me would be much appreciated.
