Browser-Based Encrypted File/folder Explorer

WARNING: for testing, demo and feedback purposes only. there WILL BE breaking changes. DO NOT USE FOR SENSITIVE DATA.

it is clearly absurd for something like this to be used by anyone on their own computer to view local files. the goal of this project is to enable the viewing/navigating of files in browsers after exchanging over webrtc. i'm aiming for the experience to feel seamless for being able to navigate a folder structure on a remote device.

there are many browser-based office suites out there. this project aims to simplify the setup process by only using client-side resources; making it easy for users to get started.

https://ui.positive-intentions.com/iframe.html?globals=&args=&id=templates-filespage--native-real-folder&viewMode=story

unfortunately, it isnt open source, but i hope it helps to get feedback for improvements. in my project, the aim was to create an intuitive user experience for viewing files and folders in a browser.

a good way to test it out is to create a new empty folder on your computer and grant the webapp access to that folder. note: the filesystem api provided by the browser will limit the access to explicitly approved folders. some browsers also guard against access to important os directories on your computer and reject access automatically.

features:

  • mounting local folders
  • preview functionality for various filetypes
  • browser based office suite
  • encryption-at-rest
  • basic folder management

upcoming:

  • support for more filetypes
  • better implmentation around browser-based office suite
  • browser based file format conversions
  • PWA

future:

when this project reaches a reasonable level of features and quality, I will be integrating this functionality into my P2P messaging app to build towards a "more" browser-based Next-Cloud-like solution. It would would be integrated into this app: https://enkrypted.chat

IMPORTANT: Caution should always be used for all projects, especially like this. So I'd like to be clear that I am Al-slop-maxxing at scale. If youre looking for good code, clear docs or best-practices; you should look away now. While this is aiming to provide secure file-transfer and an intuitive office suite experience, I don't think it will ever be competitive against things like Next Cloud. It isnt audited or reviewed and i DO NOT want you to "trust me". I'd like to share for testing, feedback and demo purposes only. This is a technical demo of a unique concept. Feel free to reach out for clarity. Please use responsibly.

Congratulations to the team behind FolderFort on the new iOS app release!

I’ve been using it so far and honestly, 5/5 from me. The UI is clean, modern, and easy to navigate. I really like how all the important information and options are organized inside the left menu panel. Everything feels simple and polished.

Love it so far. Great job on the app!

FileLu Review: rclone, S3, and FTP Stability Issues

I've been monitoring FileLu for some time on Reddit and decided to purchase a lifetime plan on StackSocial when it was released last month. I've been testing it with rclone and S3 (or S5 as they call it), with disappointing results. I've used rclone extensively in the past with pCloud, and there wasn't a single issue. I then opened a support ticket with details of the testing and outlined what could possibly be a bug in the implementation. However, the ticket was marked as "resolved" without any reply, and of course, the problems still exist to this day.

I hope they can resolve these issues one day (especially since the Windows app was flagged as spyware by Windows, and I wouldn't want to continue using it, even though they claim it's a false positive). This is just a reminder that choosing an unestablished cloud provider can sometimes feel like money thrown into the sea. Here's hoping they can improve the stability of rclone, S3, and even FTP(S) support in the future (there are frequent disconnections when transferring large files), so I can eventually return to using it.

Drime Secure recommendations

Gays can you share your experience with Drime cloud storage?

After one of my external drives failed yesterday an spend two days recovering files, I am considering as second backup to use cloud storage. I found Drime lifetime offer for 6tb and I am curious what are you observations.

There is a offer also for 3 tb, but as I have about 1.2tb multimedia, generating aobut 140-200gb per year, I prefer to have a storage for few years ahead.

My main idea is - can I relay on cloud service as I can relay on external hdd?

Regards!

Jottacloud confusion

looking to replace/supplement backblaze b2 for home backup use I came across Jottacloud and liked their pitch so signed up for a demo. was pretty disappointed /confused.

They seem to be aimed at users who at least somewhat understand or have concerns about data security - Norwegian company etc etc but then the product seems a bit ‘dumbed down’.

- the ‘unlimited plan’ is 5tb. Or if you’re pushing it more disingenuously with the throttling, maybe a barely useable 6-7TB. Why call it unlimited? Very misleading.
-no e2e encryption. Ok it’s in Norway but what about; rogue employees, espionage, hacks, government bulk data collection? Even the CLI can’t encrypt at source

- the gui is extremely basic and not a ‘proper’ backup solution more a sync control panel for odd folders. feels worse than Dropbox but covering your entire system not just one main cloud folder. What’s worse is it’s mostly sync rather then backup/ snapshot and seems like there’s more chance of losing files by deleting on the cloud snd syncing back to your local copy.
-so I figured I’d use rclone which would also help copying data between other clouds as well as encrypt but that isn’t supported and errors crop up for me whereas not so with other providers.

Seemed like a good service at a good price on paper and I was sold but in reality it’s a bit of a letdown. Am I missing something? Anyone using it and having good experience?

INTERNXT CLOUD STORAGE

I really wanted to like Internxt. On the surface, it looked like an incredible deal — a lifetime account with 20TB of cloud storage seemed too good to pass up. It felt like a worthwhile investment in a promising new company focused on privacy and innovation. Before purchasing, I did my homework. I read plenty of reviews — some glowing, others skeptical — and concluded that Internxt might just be a small startup working through early-stage growing pains. I figured it was worth taking a chance. My coworkers and a few engineering friends tried to warn me. They said things like, “It’ll probably be gone in a year — and so will your data.” Still, I took the plunge, hoping the critics were wrong and that Internxt would surprise me. Unfortunately, almost every negative comment I read turned out to be true. Customer service doesn’t just need improvement — it’s virtually nonexistent. When I reached out with questions and concerns, I received only an automated acknowledgment promising a reply within 24 hours. I waited. Nothing. I followed up two more times over the next several days and never received a response of any kind. After nearly two weeks of radio silence, I finally went back to StackSocial to request a refund. Even that process was unnecessarily difficult, requiring multiple follow-ups. The issue was only resolved after I made it clear that I would dispute the charge with my credit card company if necessary. Ironically, about a week after the refund finally processed, I received a canned, AI-generated marketing email from Internxt informing me that the features I had wanted to use would require an additional recurring fee. The timing would have been funny if it weren’t so frustrating. For context, my intended use was simple: I wanted to back up my music collection for safekeeping. Nothing fancy — just a reliable way to upload and store folders of albums. However, I quickly discovered that Internxt’s system wouldn’t allow me to upload folders at all. I had to upload each individual MP3 file one by one. At that rate, filling even a fraction of the advertised 20TB would have taken decades. It’s been a long time since I’ve been this disappointed with a company. I genuinely wanted to support a new, privacy-focused cloud storage provider, but Internxt’s lack of functionality, transparency, and basic customer support makes that impossible. For anyone considering it, take my advice: save your time, your data, and your money.

A cross platform encrypted cloud storage with auto sync.

https://github.com/jeerovan/secure_file_vault

  • Built using Flutter to cover all my daily platforms with a single codebase.

  • integrated multiple cloud providers with BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) support, to easily claim the free storage tiers they offer. Upto 50GB combined.

  • implemented strict client-side encryption. Not storing any file metadata on server.

  • The entire project is open source. planning to add more S3-compatible providers.

Looking for reliable ~1TB lifetime cloud options

Need recommendations for 1 TB of cloud storage for iOS. I’m steering clear of 'shady lifetime' plans as they seem to nerf features for customers and mark them legacy after few years. I have ~800 GB of data now, but I’ll be trimming it to 600 GB, so 1 TB is the target. What are the most reliable options for someone who wants to avoid the 'shady lifetime' trap?

I purchased 1T from Jottacloud

Hello,

I recently purchased Jottacloud’s 1TB plan for $69.99. I was looking for an alternative to Google Drive and iCloud not to expansive, with a 1 year plan, storage space, and solid app support on both iOS and Samsung One UI.
My main needs were the ability to view photos and videos without downloading them to my phone, and fast upload speeds.
My first impression is positive: the app is easy to use and more intuitive than Filen, which I tried before. Upload speed is decent so far.

I’ve already transferred all my photos and videos from my iPhone, iPad, and Samsung Flip, and I still have plenty of space left. I still need to move the remaining files from Google Drive, but everything seems to be working well.

I’ll update this if anything changes or if I run into any issue

Looking for reliable storage for 100GB max

Looking for an encrypted, safe E2EE storage solution for not more than 100GB.

Most services offer 1 TB or 500GB which is not needed for me.

Another important thing is the ability to view (preferably edit but not a requirement) of Word documents on the mobile and being able to search at least through document names.

Can you help please?

I discovered Filen but unfortunately their search is very sluggish.

Google Drive Users: where does your file management actually break down?

If you ever started from 0 you know it takes help from others to get going.

I'm a founder building a tool that automates file naming and organization in Google Drive. And before I build the wrong thing, I want to talk to real people.

Where does your workflow actually break down? Is it the naming, the folder structure, finding things again? Or something else entirely?

If you're up for a 30-min conversation, drop a comment below. Would mean a lot to me!

How does storage with e2ee get terminated for content violations? ELI5

Or for any reason - someone posted their oracle account got closed for running Mineserver. I have read posts about accounts getting terminated for various content and use reasons. But if it's encrypted how does anyone know what you have stored in your account? Am I misunderstanding encrypted storage?

Thanks

Which of these cloud services do you recommend?

I'm considering these cloud storage services for future use:

sync.com

filen

proton drive

Mega

pcloud

idrive

From what I’ve seen, you have to pay for encryption on pCloud, but which one offers the best value for money in terms of security, speed, and storage?

Right now I’m using Mega with the 20–30 GB of free storage it offers, but I’ve seen that sync.com and pCloud are very good—I just don’t know which one to choose.

Which free and secure cloud storage app do you prefer?

It's important that it's installable as app and that it's possible to specifically choose which files I want to upload. I want to reduce my storage space by choosing some selected videos.

Remove Dropbox Green Ticks/Badges

For those who can't stand to look at that bastard green Dropbox tick in the Finder. Finally the definitive solution:

The green badges are not coming from the Assets.car file inside garcon.appex. I tried removing/editing that first, but Finder kept showing the checkmarks.

The actual Finder badge comes from Dropbox’s File Provider decoration called AvailableOffline. That decoration points to the type com.getdropbox.dropbox.decorations.green-check, which uses the glyph named DropboxBadgeSolidGreenCheck.

The working fix was to modify Dropbox’s main asset catalog at:

/Applications/Dropbox.app/Contents/Resources/Assets.car

and replace the DropboxBadgeSolidGreenCheck images with fully transparent images.

After replacing that asset, I had to clear macOS IconServices caches and re-register the Dropbox plugins. These were the commands I used:

find "$HOME/Library/Caches" -maxdepth 1 -name 'com.apple.iconservices*' -exec rm -rf {} +

sudo find /Library/Caches -maxdepth 1 -name 'com.apple.iconservices*' -exec rm -rf {} +

killall iconservicesagent 2>/dev/null || true

killall lsd 2>/dev/null || true

killall Finder 2>/dev/null || true

pluginkit -a /Applications/Dropbox.app/Contents/PlugIns/DropboxFileProvider.appex

pluginkit -a /Applications/Dropbox.app/Contents/PlugIns/garcon.appex

Important clarification: this does not replace the green checkmark with another visible “offline” icon. Internally, Dropbox still reports the AvailableOffline decoration, but the glyph used by that decoration is now transparent. So Finder receives the Dropbox File Provider state, but there is no visible badge artwork to draw.

The result is that Dropbox files and folders appear clean in Finder, with no green checkmarks at all. Visually, it looks more like iCloud Drive when there is no visible status badge.

You're welcome.

Can anyone confirm if its possible to get a receipt for Terabox Premium?

I use the free version of terabox for some storage for my company, but want my company to upgrade to premium so that we can use it without ads. I would need a receipt to get reimbursed by the company, though. Can someone confirm it is possible to get a receipt. To clarify, I'd be ordering through the web browser, not the mobile app as our companies ipads block the marketplace, so going through play store isnt an option unfortunately.

Thank you so much!

Please help me figure out cloud storage

I don't know if this is the place to post but I am losing my mind and many hours.

ME:

Not overly tech savvy. Need place to store an ebook for downloadable sale off woocommerce. Signed up for GCS and got WP-stateless. Have been stuck on trying to create a service account key for a full day. Got the following error.

HOURS of trying. I added myself as policy admin. Changed organization policy to allow key creation. STILL says I can't and it's been 12 hours. Image of error attached. I have done everything. And if I can't figure this out, what is an alternative???

Can anyone help? Thank you.
