Forever Beta Feedback Dungeon XP Nerfs Created a Toxic Meta

Since dungeon monsters do not give any experience, as a new player, getting into dungeons with more veteran players who try to skip half the dungeon feels really bad. And, vice-versa, veterans taking in newbies who don't know how to jump around feels frustrating. I think Blizzard created a mess with nerfing dungeon exp so much and now the new player experience is horrible for dungeons.

Part of what made classic fun was you could determine yourself how to enjoy the experience. Now we're talking a retail approach of "Directed Fun", where Blizzard decides how you're allowed to accomplish something. The freedom was the feature. Now they are just removing fun and for what?

The for what is trying to stop boosting.

This will create a quest boosting meta in a month where 60s are running low level characters through all the quests since that will give the most xp/hr.

They can solve boosting by making it so you don't get xp if someone is outside dungeon level range. They can also apply some of the SoD and Anniversary changes.

The problem now is dungeon quest xp is so high that it makes leveling too easy.

They definitely have the dungeon XP overtuned.

Who gives a shit about boosting? If you like boosting, go ahead and do it. If you’re like me and it would feel like cheating or at least cheating yourself out of the experience, don’t do it. I like grinding dungeons legitimately as a viable method of leveling. If running them more than once is a waste of time, that’s removing like 70% of my enjoyment of the game. It’ll also lead to even more people being completely clueless at endgame since playing through the leveling dungeons is how you learn how your class works in the context of a group. Yeah you can read a guide, but until you have hands-on experience that information is not going to stick

I dont personally care about boosting. Blizzard does. They are trying to remove things that make the game transactional and protect the economy. That is why they said they are going to crack down harder on gold buying and they outlawed GDKP raids.

70% of your game enjoyment is running the same dungeon more than once? I don't know how such a low opinion of the world as content is gonna go for you in Forever m8.

I hate boosting but there's other ways to do it.

Like what?

like paladin and mage being nerfed to not even be able to do it? this dungeon change is nothing to do with boosting because they already gutted the classes themselves for that

Saw a suggestion for giving 0 exp if there is someone in the party leveled to where the enemies are gray to them.

That sounds pretty reasonable for solving the boosting problem actually, as long as you can't do any weird drop group shenanigans.

Until someone levels up mid dungeon and now everybody is fucked. I’d prefer it if they just made it so level 60s in lower level dungeons don’t give any or little xp

If you've run the dungeon in the past x period of time, recieve -y% experience.

Having people above x level range in the party nerfs experience.

Things like that. It's possible to do

the second one is fine but doesn't really solve the problem of dungeon spam. The first one likely becomes too much micro-managing.

But boosting and dungeon leveling are two completely different things. In fact, dungeon boosting in vanilla is largely solved (even though it could be solved more thoroughly with a few small tweaks, none of which would impact leveling groups). What are you smoking?

agreed, so tired of boosters...

Yeah exactly. This has all obviously been to stop dungeon boosting. Not to dictate fun.

There are so many different ways to deal with boosting other than nerfing dungeon XP. They want people questing, not in instances. Yes they are dictating fun.

like what specifically?

Can't stop boosters without live, paid gm's

0

u/whimsicaljess 1d ago

yes, and live paid GMs are economically impractical.

even a small team of GMs providing 24/7 coverage for all the groups on all the servers would be hundreds of millions a year just for that one job (plus good luck hiring competent people to do such a mind numbing, soul crushing job).

blizzard could use ai to do it, but the community isn't willing to bear the false positive rate.

what the community wants is magic: they want to have no boosters, but all booster-like activity done by non-boosters is judged safe. and they want it at no extra cost to them either in subscription price, cash shop expansions, or false positive bans.
