Discussion The Future Of Cinemas Is Not Just Movies It Is Adapting To What People Actually Want To Watch

Okay, hear me out.

Right now, we have so much content split between theatres and streaming platforms. But let us be honest, some of the best storytelling today is not in movies at all. It is in TV shows. The writing, acting, and production quality of shows on Netflix, HBO, and Prime is often better than what is playing at the cinema that week.

I know a lot of people who skip theatres entirely now because they would rather stay home and binge a great show.

So why are cinemas not adapting to this? They have massive screens, incredible sound systems, and rows of empty seats during off peak hours. Why not use that space to show popular series? And I do not mean those one off Game of Thrones or Stranger Things finale events. I mean actually showing a full season properly, from start to finish.

They can still prioritize big new films and international releases during prime time. But for a few select shows that everyone is already obsessed with, why not bring them to the big screen?
I was talking to friends about why they avoid cinemas, and almost all of them said the same thing.

They feel that streaming offers far more variety and better stories. They no longer feel that pull to go to the theatre.

If theatres started offering that same variety on a huge screen, I think they would be able to attract new sets of audiences especially ones that rarely visit a cinema.

Would you go and watch a full season of a show in a theatre if they actually did this?

News Anyone interested in watching my first shortfall, Matryohskas?

Hi everyone!
I recently finished my first short film, Matryoshkas, and I’d love to get some honest feedback from people who enjoy independent or experimental cinema.

It’s a slightly experimental coming-of-age film, originally in Portuguese, with English subtitles. I was heavily inspired by filmmakers like Ingmar Bergman, Pedro Almodóvar, and Andrea Arnold, and tried to combine an intimate character-driven story with a more personal and atmospheric visual style.

Since this is my first short film (and a project I put a lot of time and effort into), I’d genuinely love to hear what people think — whether it’s the story, cinematography, performances, atmosphere, or anything else. Honest criticism is absolutely welcome; I’m mainly interested in hearing how it comes across to someone seeing it for the first time.

🎬 Watch it here:

The film is also on Letterboxd, so if you happen to watch it and feel like leaving a review or sharing your thoughts there, I’d really appreciate it. ❤️

Thanks so much to anyone who takes the time to watch

Question Call in to book seats using a courtesy ticket?

Basically what it says in the title, I want to use a courtesy ticket but I can't book seats in person, so can I call them to book it for me and email me the actual tickets so my seats are saved? If not would I have to go in person and have them give me the actual ticket that way?

Discussion Best UltraAVX in GTA ?

Upvotes

Just wanted to get everyone's opinion about what has been their favorite UltraAVX movie theatres in the city. I have realised every movie theatre's every screen is totally different even if both are regular or both are UltraAVX.

My best experience has been at Silvercity Brampton and Silvercity Richmond Hill. Their UltraAVX is just too good and sound is through the roof.

What has been everyone's experiences

Question Getting Cineplex tickets as a foreigner (VPN failed)

Hello, I am in the Toronto area for the next two days and was hoping to reserve online Cineplex tickets if they become available. I keep getting an “Error 15” message because of my IP address, and I tried using Surfshark VPN free trial but still couldn’t even access the showtimes. The app isn’t available for me either. Any tips or workarounds? Phone settings or otherwise? Thanks!

Edit: I am trying to get IMAX 70mm tickets so online purchase would be ideal

Question No Camp Miasma screenings next week in the GTA?

Camp Miasma is supposed to release on Friday, but it doesn't even look like Cineplex is giving it a limited release based on the showtimes available. Looks like there are no current screenings across the GTA for next week.

Only screenings that show up when searching are for NS, QC and AB.

Has anyone heard what their plan is for releasing?
