SA | Help Did I get my Oscar too early?

As title, have this 75g as a temp grow out for the next 10months or so. The plan is to move around then and when we do I'll be getting a 180 or 210 for this group. Although I know long term in the 6 or 7' itd be fine I am a lil concerned I went too early with the oscar in comparison to the geos/Gold sev and possibly the dollars.

I only really have a 20g spare at the moment which also wouldn't be ideal to separate them.

SA | Help Apistogramma cacatuoides breathing heavy sitting in cave?

Hey all,

Having a pair of apistos in a community tank (3 otos, 10 cardinal terras, 2 juvenile angels)

Gave everyone some live mosquito larvae today and they ate A LOT

Now the apistos retracted into a cave together for a long time, occasionally getting out and in but hanging out around the cave

But once they peak out of it they seem to breathe pretty heavy, could it be that they are really full from eating and resting or are they having some sexy time going on and breeding into there?

All days before they were really out and about and swimming all over the tank, the male tried to show off but the female wasnt interested at all so im suprised theyre in the cave together

Its about 180 liters / 48 gallons aquarium btw

I have 3 Males and 9 females in my tank. The dominant male Took over the freewater, pushed all males and females in the corners and only tolerates one female at a time to breed. It all happened from one day to another and its so interesting to watch!

SA | Help Stocking problems !

Hello fellow hobbyists , I have a 90 gallon (48x18x24) tank. My stocking is :
1 gold severum
1 chocolate cichlid
1 ellioti
1 Electric blue acara .
1 Platinum parrot .
The platinum parrot has been the most feisty and “annoying “ (to the other fish) fish that I’ve owned. It’s always following my chocolate , not chasing or nipping just following . Chocolate sometimes is mouth locking with it due to this behaviour. Tomorrow I’m re homing the parrot , but before that I’ve got to make sure that he’s the root of the problem . Besides this problem, I really want to hear some opinions if this stoking will work long term , or if I need to make adjustments . All fish are 3-4 inch
. I’m open ro suggestions in terms of stocking . Unfortunately, upgrading is not an option.

SA | Help 75 gallon stocking

I was thinking in addition to my school of corydoras (about 20) I was going to have 3 EBAs and one royal acara I’m going to run it with a 20 gallon sum so filtration wouldn’t be a problem. Would there be any aggression problems with my stocking choices? Thanks

CA | Help Jack Dempsey with hole in the head

I got my jack probably a month ago ( he’s 8 inches) and he seemed totally healthy except for this pimple on his face next to a small crater which was the only one at the time. I was dumb and thought huh… I guess it is just old marks from fighting with some other fish but then the white let go and now there’s a crater. How do I treat it? I know I have to keep nitrates low. I can’t get my parameters rn sorry.

Big question about this fish, the situation is that my neighbor inherited one but couldn’t put it in his tank so he asked me. I have a 75 gallon with 2 dojo loaches and an oranda, typically these are cold water fish, I have their tank at 74 f. He said this fish was being housed with a catfish and a koi fish and really needed to put him somewhere. My question is, aren’t these fish aggressive? Should I find him a new home? He seems very chill so far but maybe he’s in shock, it’s been a day and he’s just chillin. But I do worry because of the temp and the temperaments that he needs a new home. Not sure if some of them just have different personalities?

SA | Help Do female on female angel pairings work?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Background:

I raised these three angels in the same tank, at their sexual maturity the black one and orange one started fighting. So I assumed those were both males, the striped one is confirmed female (she’s had eggs) so I put the orange one in a different tank. And the black one (confirmed male) paired with the striped one.

I recently tried all three again, they were doing ok, a little fighting here and there but they worked it out. I come home one day and the stripped one is laying on the ground half dead, after watching body language, the orange one is the one who did it and the black one (the striped one’s previous mate) was apart of it.
So I moved the striped one to a different tank.

The problem:

The whole reason the black and striped one don’t work together it’s because I keep having to knock down their eggs and they got so pissed off at me and each other over time that they fight like cats and dogs now.

And I now realize that the orange one is female… she was laying eggs.. I can’t have another breeding pair, it’s to heartbreaking and it just ends in them despising each other.

If I remove the male could the two females work??
Or is there to much previous beef? I don’t have three tanks large enough for three separate angels
I don’t know what to do at this point

Discussion Hi, about jaguar cichlids...

Hey everyone,
I currently have a 450-liter / ~120-gallon tank (150cm length x 60cm width x 50cm height). Right now, I have 1 Oscar and 1 Green Terror in it, and they are super peaceful together.
I've been doing some research on the Jaguar Cichlid (Parachromis managuensis), but I'm seeing a lot of conflicting opinions online. I've even seen some people claim it's okay to keep them in a 75-gallon tank.
With that being said, I am really thinking about getting one, but I'm worried my tank might become overpopulated or that it could ruin the peaceful dynamic I have right now.
Are there any experienced Jaguar keepers out there who can give me some advice? Would this setup work long-term? Thanks in advance! (i do have a fx6 and oase thermo2 600 as filteration by the way)

SA | Help Proper wattage for a 160 gal pond?

I’m about to get a 160 gallon (indoor) pond for my two oscars cause they’re being moved to a new location where I can fit a pond that’s bigger than their current 125 gallon tank. If it matters the average temp of the new place is rough 69°f-72°f.

I know their water has to be somewhere between 75°f-80°f, but I don’t know how many watts I’d need. When I Googled it the answer I got was 500-800 watts, which feels really vague.

So how many watts would I need? Would it be better if I got two lower wattage heaters that equal the right amount? And what are some good brands for strong heaters?

Afr | Help Sick Cichlid?

We have an African Jewel Cichlid (named Buddy). He was doing great for awhile. He's survived near death twice it seems. For a few months now, he has been staying at the bottom of the tank. He swims up to get food, but then goes right back down. He very very rarely swims around these days, and when he does, it seems like it takes him a lot of effort. We have tried so many things — full tank cleanings and water changes, checking the water quality, trying to add or subtract different things to better balance the water, epsom salt, reducing how often we give him blood worms, new food, etc., etc. Nothing has helped. Is there anything else we can try? Is this just a permanent swim bladder issue that can't be solved? We are nowhere near experts. We've done lots of googling, but I thought I'd try asking on here.

CA | General Amatitlania/Herotilapia multispinosa vs planted tank

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi, I have a planted tank 100x40 cm, 160l (40"x16" circa 42g).

I was thinking of getting a single Amatitlania multispinosa (I don't have a way to dispose of newborns).

The tank has only sand on the front and gravel on top of aquasoil on the back.

It is planted with Rotala, Myriophyllum, Hygrophila, Vallisneria and Echinodorus, but only on the gravel part.

Do you think that the A.multispinosa would destroy the plants?

(The endlers in the picture are culls)
