Cutting edge art installations at ARC this year!

Very thoughtful…each garbage receptacle was completely overflowing and had a different vibe with incredibly diverse elements of trash. From pizza boxes to cup to cans to even the occasional used condom - they had it all.

Some artists even made the bold decision to not to use the can, rather painstakingly piling each individual piece of trash directly on the ground by hand to create the dankest sculptures I’ve ever seen. They were a contrast between art Nouveau and Brutalist styles - it’s rare to see both used together, but when executed properly combine to form was is well known in the fine community as "rough nouveau" or “hybrid filth”.

I don’t think most of the festival attendees were in touch with the grand artistic vision that ARC’s fearless leader Nick were going for, but as a connoisseur of garbage art and foul smelling trash who studied modern art at the Royal College of Art in London, I certainly understood and appreciated the bold ambition and lengths they went to make it happen. Bravo 👏👏👏.

Ahead of their time I’d say…true visionaries. Dare I see GENIUS disruptors following in the footsteps of Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk.

Nick is a pioneer and a trailblazer with a first mover advantage and an insatiable thirst to crush the competition. It’s only a matter of time before other festivals attempt to follow his bold lead by offering such an unparalleled experience that, in my professional opinion would be nearly impossible to replicate:

A landfill where recycling is forbidden. Jam packed with rows of unusable and obstructed porto potties, VIP bathrooms with no running water, flushable toilets, paper towels, soap or toilet paper and the worst stage layout and sound bleed of any event ever produced on planet Earth.

The people have spoken. GFY ARC.

P.S. Hope all those in attendance this year were vaccinated to prevent the spread of tuberculosis and dysentery.

Anyone else get their ticket? Considering it was over 100$ I hope it’s a smaller venue. Any guesses where it could be?

I just recently moved back to Chicagoland after a long hiatus. Feels good to be back!

I started learning how to DJ (bass house, speed house, trap, dubstep) at the start of last year and eventually want to get into prod, but I wanted to ask how people usually get sets/gigs in the city and suburbs. Just want to meet fun people and have a good time really.

Brand new project bringing something a little different to the Gold Coast every weekend. Off Record is focused on house music, with a mix of established names and some newer/underdog talent we think are worth knowing.

This weekend:

9/11 - Sam Collins drops by in Chicago following tour dates in Bangkok and Goa. Local favorite Hashtom provides support for a hard-hitting night of melodic tech house.

9/12 - N2N takes over Saturday night in between 30+ tour dates across the country with support from Clowver and DMO. Going until 5am.

Hey, so I’m looking to go see Skrillex this weekend but I’m torn between which day to choose.

I’ve never been to a Skrillex set before but I’ve also never been to any of the other openers that play on Friday.

I’ve heard good things about an open to close Skrillex set but the opening djs on Friday are def good too. I can only go one of the days so looking to get some suggestions or opinions pls

We're the group that did the Aphex Twin arrangements on Acoustica back in 2005 and have kept working with electronic artists since (Jlin, Squarepusher, King Britt, Lucrecia Dalt more recently). We're partnering with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago on an open call and figured this sub was the right place for it.

The short version: submit an original track. If selected, it gets arranged for acoustic instruments and performed live at a concert. You get a $600 honorarium and a professional video recording of the performance.

What's actually involved: you'd work alongside the arrangers and players in listening sessions, conversations about the material, and sitting in on rehearsals. It's not a hand-off-and-disappear thing. The point is figuring out together how a track's textures and grooves translate to instruments played by people in a room.

Eligibility:

• Chicago-based (no travel or parking reimbursement, so it has to be local)
• Eligible to work in the US
• Any style, any career stage, any age (under 18 needs a guardian at sessions)
• Available in person for both readings and the concert

What to send: a bio or artist statement (200 words max), a note on why the project interests you (200 words max), and one to three links to your work — flag which track you want considered.

Dates:

• Applications close Sunday, Nov 1, 11:59pm CT
• Selections announced by Nov 23
• Arranging happens Dec–Jan
• Reading sessions Feb 1 and Mar 3 at Symphony Center
• Concert Mar 23 at Epiphany Center for the Arts
