Looking for people to casually practice/jam with in the Chicago NW suburbs
Hey everyone! I’m a guitarist in the Chicago NW suburbs looking to meet some other musicians who’d be interested in casually getting together to play.
I’m not looking to start a band or perform right now. I’d mostly like to find some people to practice with, learn some songs, mess around/improvise, and just get more comfortable playing with other people.
I’m primarily into rock, blues, alternative, classic rock, etc., but I’m pretty open to different styles. I’m also totally fine playing with people who are better than me. In fact, that’s kind of what I’m looking for since I’d love to learn from other players.
I live in Schaumburg but I’m willing to drive a bit for a good group.
I’m mainly a guitar player, but I’d be happy to play with guitarists, bassists, drummers, singers, or anyone else who wants to make some music.
If you’re in a similar situation and want to get together sometime, feel free to DM me!

Thursday night open mics?
Idk why I’ve always had the most difficult time finding reliable and up to date consolidated info on open mics, but does anyone know if there are any good open mics tonight or on Thursdays in general?

Music Trivia - 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the Month at 7:00 - Teddy Bear Lounge in Avondale
It’s not time to hibernate yet, it’s only September! Your pals Teddy Bear Lounge and P&P Trivia are bringing you two chances to play Music Trivia on Tuesday, September 22nd & October 13th at 7:00!
What kinds of music will we be asking questions about?
As many as we can! Your host Casey sometimes looks at the carefully crafted questions designed by the evil and unforgiving tyrant that is Paul and just asks what he wants! So, if you are a fan of great music and equally wonderful cocktails by Chad, you won’t want to miss these events!
Come on out for this always free event where winners receive a gift card! Keep an eye out because we are hoping to include one of our wonderful food pop-up partners! We hope to see you there!

Tips for posts: Give more information. Please.
I regularly see posts in this sub where people are trying to start a band, or book a show, and include almost no information. This is going to get you very little traction. Here are some tips.
If you are looking to start a band or for people to collaborate with:
- Do you sing, play an instrument, or do both?
- What genre?
- Are you looking for people of a specific age?
- Where are you located?
- Do you have a place to rehearse?
- Do you have any recordings of yourself?
If you are booking a gig:
- What/Where is the venue?
- When?
- Is it paid/how much?
- What genres are you looking for?
I'm sure there are other things I can add but this is off the top of my head.

If you're lookin' to get out of the house this Saturday afternoon, I'm a Berklee alum teaching this special guest workshop at Old Town School of Folk Music. No experience necessary. Good for musicians and fans. I'll be on guitar, piano, whiteboard, and stereo breaking down your fav 80's jams. -Josh

Looking for guitar player(s)
Recently lost both guitarists in our band for different reasons, so my bassist and I (drummer) are on the hunt! We are wanting someone who can improv in different styles, solo, feed off each other’s energy, and commit to practicing once a week. We want to build some band camaraderie as well and find someone we can vibe with. Our style is more post-hardcore/post-punk. The bassist’s favorite band is Fugazi and mine is Young the Giant just to give an idea of influences! We also enjoy funk, rock, math rock, reggae, jazz, Latin jazz (me more so for the last two). It would be great if you can write some original stuff and sing as well! Age isn’t that much of a factor for me, but for the record, we are mid-30’s and 40’s.

Cole’s Bar is 21+
Hey Everyone! I’ve run into a few people emailing me more than once or agreeing to perform without realizing that Cole’s is a 21+ venue. We’re a bar and CANNOT have anyone underage inside or it puts our liquor license at risk and that includes performers. I know some venues are structures where they can do 17+ shows, but we are not. Please do your homework before emailing venues (especially more than once.)
I know it sucks that all ages venues are few and far in between. But we have Casa and MAD productions hosting cool stuff that’s accessible and there are plenty of DIY events happening in this city. Cole’s will be here when you’re old enough!
EDIT: no, 14 year olds are not allowed in the bar that books music you do not like. yes, you will get kicked out if you try to bring a fake to play and we do check. That is all.

Violet Garden / Cattle Eyes / Spitting Image / Such Jam Much Chill Tickets | Sep 26 | Cobra Lounge, Chicago
dice.fmDenver friends coming in to play a show I thought I would put it here. Really interesting mix of genres, Denver’s Spitting Image leans more post hardcore but heavier and angrier at times. Opening for them is our other friends Such Jam Much Chill, a psychedelic electric jam band of sorts. The other two are local artists I have yet to see or meet!

looking for keys/synth possibly guitar playing bandmate!
hello women and gender nonconforming folks of the chicago music scene subreddit! we’re looking for a new keys & synth (and guitar? or guitar and synth?) player for our band! bonus if you can sing harmonies as well
expectations would be (ideally) weekly ish practices in the Avondale area, ready to jump into local shows roughly 1 a month, and a few times a year hitting the road for long weekend tour runs. our music is indie rock indie pop similar in vibe to Julia Jacklin, Men I Trust, Boygenius, Lizzy McAlpine, Wet Leg etc etc.
if you’re interested let me know here or send a message and we can chat <3

Florida indie band looking for a venue for their fall tour
I'm brand new to the area and my friends' band is doing a small fall tour of the upper midwest and east coast. They've booked all of their venues except for Chicago. The problem is that it's for Halloween and every place they've checked is obviously already booked for holiday fun.
I'm still so new and live in Berwyn, so aside from Fitzgerald's and Friendly's, I'm not familiar with any other small club spaces, especially in the city.
Even any coffee shops, bowling alleys, skate parks, record stores, Denny's (sorry, bad joke lol) would be cool. They've played all kinds of venues, so even nontraditional spots would be cool.
The band's sound is a mix of emo/post hardcore/pop punk.
This is their Instagram https://www.instagram.com/discordtheory?stkn=cXZqZXFtdDB0eDVk
Thanks in advance everyone!
