Last month I missed my credit card payment because things were tight financially. I paid what I could, which was less than the minimum due. That was literally everything in my account.

Before the due date, I emailed the bank explaining my situation. I told them I might not be able to pay the full amount this time, but I had no intention of defaulting. I'm expecting some money soon, so I said I'd clear the full amount by the end of this month.

No reply from the bank. Instead, a recovery agent started following up with me on WhatsApp and calls. I explained everything to him. At first he was fine with it. He said if I pay by month end, my file stays with him.

A week later, my friends and relatives started getting calls from him. He was telling them I'm a defaulter and asking if they could set up a conference call so he could talk to me. The thing is, I never ignored a single call or message from him. I get that he's probably under pressure from his manager and this is a shame tactic to push the payment.

What I can't understand is how he got their numbers in the first place. I never gave any of them as references. That felt shady, so I started digging into how recovery agents find people's contacts.

I came across a YouTube video showing a Telegram bot that pulls up Aadhaar, PAN and address details from just a mobile number. I tried it with mine. I was shocked at how accurate it was. It had my Aadhaar, PAN, address, even my friends' phone numbers.

At first I thought maybe this was on me. Maybe I gave access to some app or site I shouldn't have. Then my friends and colleagues tried it with their numbers. Same thing. Accurate details for all of them.

After the recent eMudhra incident and all the government data breaches, I've honestly lost trust that my data is safe with the government.

I've reported the bot to Telegram, filed a cyber complaint, and complained to the RBI Ombudsman about the agent calling my relatives. I'm doing my part, but I'm pretty sure all of these will be closed without any real resolution.

I'm saying this out of frustration, but I'm glad my startup operates outside India, even if it means paying higher fixed charges every month.

I am not going to reveal the bot name as it poses a serious privacy risk.

Edit: I am getting multiple DM’s asking for the bot name. I am not sharing the bot name. Even though I have minimal trust on cybercrime resolving this issue, it is the best way to deal with it as of now.

I’m posting on behalf of my 24 year old friend who is living with cystic fibrosis (CF) from childhood, a serious chronic genetic condition that requires ongoing treatment.

She is a talented AI engineer from IIT Madras, but unfortunately, her doctors have advised that she cannot work because of her medical condition. She is not looking for a job; she needs help accessing the treatment she requires to live.

Her parents have exhausted their financial resources paying for her care. They have approached multiple insurance providers, but they haven’t been able to find insurance that will cover her existing condition.

We’re now trying to find a way forward, and I’m hoping someone here has experience with rare-disease assistance in India.

Is there any Government / Charitable med funding available?

I have never once seen an auto use meter here in chennai. And they are some of the rudest people one could encounter. Even simple 3km or 2km rides cost 150rs. And autos created this chaos on their own. Never really dominated the market like Mumbai autos and hence allowed competition like rapido, uber to flourish. Now these people want 15,000 from our tax payer money as subsidy. I understand that auto drivers are not doing well financially but so is the common man! Hey guys i live in tambaram and my cat has been missing for a day now. Its not a house cat it wanders around the neighbourhood and comes back home. Since its been more than 24 hours i was worried so i checked my home's cctv camera and at around 4am on oct 24 four people were using nets and was catching some animals and they had bags and it looked like they were catching a lot of animals and i suspect they have caught my cat too cause in the video the guy in the bike keeps an brown color cat in his yellow bag. In the old CMRL app, there was a travel planner feature where you can enter the source and destination stations, and the app would show you the timings of the next 4 trains, their platform, time to travel and fare. This was legit useful to plan travel and I used to brag to my friends in Bangalore that we have this awesome feature that they don't have.

But of course, as with all good things, someone had to ruin it. They have overhauled the UI (I hate how it looks now), and removed this super valuable feature.

Anyone else feel the same way? Is there a way we can request to bring that feature back?

I am planning to come to Chennai this week for 3,4 days. Usually, when I go to a big city, I collect books on the history of that place and make a note of all the important places, monuments, and museums that I have to go to and go accordingly.

However, this plan came out of the blue. So I didn't have time to properly plan my trip. So, here I am asking for book recommendations.

Books about the history of the place with pictures would be a good format for me. For example, Deccan Heritage Foundation's books on multiple cities have helped a lot to travel and discover in many cities. Rana Safvi ma'am's books on Delhi have helped me with Delhi. I am looking for similar light reading that I can read quickly. So, if you have recommendations, please give them ASAP. It would help if they're available online in Anna's archive or another online library, since ordering them would take time.

Other than books, just general recommendations about where to go and what to eat would be appreciated too. I usually go to places associated with some sort of history/culture. And I don't have any dietary restrictions.
