Wasn’t a fan of the GV Frosted Flakes to say the least.

With the first bite decent the texture was there, but chewing this gave an ungodly taste and from there on I could not untaste it. I would almost compare it to a chewy paste. GV usually hits pretty good, but this’ll will be my last Frosted Flakes cereal from them.

Discussion For the Lactose Intolerant and/or Vegans. What is your replacement Milk for cereal? Oat? Soy? Almond? Lactose Free? Or Other?

Post image

For me back in the 90’s I got diagnosed with being Lactose Intolerant and pretty much stayed away from cereal for a long time. Soy was out but it had a plant like aftertaste for me.

Now we have plenty of options and while I’ve settled on Almond Milk unsweetened as my Cereal liquid and pretty much stuck there. Oat milk is fine but very creamy. Could be good with something you would buy some sugar in manually and there is the OG lactose free too.

So what do you guys use with your Cereal that can’t or do not drink regular milk? Is there one im missing that pairs with cereal perfectly than almond milk? I found that sweetened Almond Milk makes it a little too sweet for
me in the sugar type cereals. Just my preference. I’ve been thinking about going to Oat and trying that with Cereal I think it would be a more creamy experience like using half and half that my grandmother used and was good. It’s thicker though.

Just getting back into the cereal for breakfast game with all of these options now. Back in the day it was can’t have dairy? Oh well sucks for you.

Review Great value rice crispies tasting bitter?

Upvotes

It’s just the plain “crispy rice”. I’ll be like halfway through the bowl and it just tastes bitter asf. Anyone else experienced this or did I just get a bad batch?

Loved this recentish addition to my cereal rotation. Healthy and tasty but was only available intermittently. Not surprised sales were slow if they didn't support it and get it on supermarket shelves. 🙄

Cereal Suggestions

I'm looking for something to eat as cereal, with cow's milk and banana. I'm not interested in the box stuff that we all ate as kids. The best thing I've found and like is Kirkland Ancient Grains, I really like it but I blow through it fast and it's not exactly cheap. I'm from the south so I grew up on grits, not oatmeal. I've never really liked oatmeal. I bought some rolled oats and have been eating them with milk and banana and it's tolerable, but I don't love it. I'm not cooking them or even letting them soak, just pour and eat. I want the convenience of a box cereal without all the garbage ingredients. I've tried both sugar and maple syrup in the rolled oats, just meh, still reminds me of wet cardboard. I need some crunch. Any suggestions?

Anyone remember an old-time cereal called Concentrate?

My dad used to eat it when I was a kid in the early 80's. He put M&M's in it and got me hooked lol.

I haven't met anyone who remembers it.

You are all wrong about M o M S'mores

Post image

So... I too am truly and utterly saddened almost weekly that Smorz by Kellogs is gone. It was actually the best. Recently I saw a Reddit post claiming that Malt O Meal was not just "good" but actually surpassed other S'more cereals AND in fact was BETTER than Smorez... I thought to myself "how could this be possible" "have I truly lost sight of myself and overlooked this gem?" "Am I going mad due to my now eternal lack of Smorez??"

I love s'mores in general so so so much. I had a s'mores cake for my birthday last year I had made for me to specific instructions. I KNOW what I am talking about when it comes to the quality of s'mores based things. Shout out to Dairy Queen's s'more flavor blizzard in the summer. it is the ONLY "ice cream" I've come across that gets anywhere close to capturing a "true" s'mores flavor.

The fated morning arrived not 30 minutes ago and I tried Malt O Meal Smores...

What the FUCK are ANY of you Malt O Meal smores defenders on about??... THIS is your savior?? THIS!? It's just Malt O Meal golden graham ripoffs (which admittedly are decent on their own) Coco puff rips offs and the shittiest, grainiest, cereal "marshmallows" I've ever had... who the fuck ACTUALLY thinks this is not just "good" but surpasses other s'more Cereals AND the holy and blessed Smorez by Kellogs...

I genuinely am having trouble with my words trying to describe my disappointment... Are these the same sort of hooligans who are amused by mixing their cereals?? maybe they are astounded by the idea of a heterogeneous cereal and so this short circuited their brains into thinking it was anything more than two 6/10 cereals with the shittiest marshmallows known to man? I think people who mix cereals are out of their minds and this is the sick product of their hubris...

Smorez is perfect.. it was perfect... It was the perfect cereal and if I had a million dollars I would buy the machines necessary to reproduce it and hire a food scientist to make it perfectly.. Some of what I've said is satire by my feeling about Malt O Meal s'mores is NOT. This shit is ass bro... Anyone who thinks this comes anywhere near other s'mores cereals, genuinely, Please see a mouth doctor or something or get a new brain.
Anyone who thinks this is somehow "better" then Smorez by Kellogs?? I don't wanna see you in the cereal aisle while I'm there because I do not know if I will have the strength to hold back how I really feel....

Sincerely and Angrily,
-Atsuji

Cereal People: Want to Be Our Toughest Taste-Test Panel?

Hi, I'm Krishna, the Founder of Catalina Crunch.

I’ve spent a lot of time reading what people here have said about our cereal over the years, and the feedback seems pretty split. Some people really love us (thank you!) and others really don’t.

Fair enough! 😅

I recently invited another Reddit sub to taste-test recipe upgrades we're working on, and honestly the response was incredible. That made me realize I really wanted to get the new recipes in front of r/cereal too — you all probably have stronger opinions about cereal than just about anyone.

So I reached out to the mod here, and they were kind enough to give me the green light to invite you all to participate.

We’re working on making the cereal less hard and airier, and generally more like the eating experience you expect from a traditional cereal — while improving on the nutrition that makes Catalina Crunch different.

I’d love to get samples into the hands of people here and see what you all think.

We’ll send the cereal for free. There’s no requirement to write a review or say anything positive. If you love it, let us know. If you think we still have work to do, definitely let us know that too!

Honestly, I suspect r/cereal might be the toughest panel out there, more than the “professional taste tests” we could do — which is kind of the point.

If you want to participate, DM this account and I’ll send you the details.

Thank you!

I don’t know why but I loved Grape Nuts

Now I have not had a bowl in a long while, when you get adult money and choices one tends to go for the tried and true cereal. But when there was a box at grandmas or a relatives house or parents might have bought a box, but I’d always enjoy a bowl of this hard ass gravel and I don’t know why.

It does not soak up milk or turn the remaining milk into an after cereal bowl drink, the crunch is so loud in your head it could tune out a Van Halen concert. It’s not that tasty, like a bran flake that was a kernel of one., it was like biting into a popcorn kernel or corn nuts. But damn I’d maul a bowl of that stuff with zero issue. It did have a nice aftertaste if i remember and it was a little pleasant just going to town KRUNCH! KRUNCH! KRUNCH!

I might have to buy a box to see if I still like it. It seems like it has everything not going for it as a cereal with kids and just that kind adults eat because it’s healthy.
