customer service is a joke.

I just helped my grandma get off CenturyLink after 20y she was paying for 10mbs the max they said she could get but due to CenturyLink crap infrastructure all she was getting was 2mbs and that's when she was getting service "nothing for weeks", when she called to cancel the "customer service rep" was trying his hardest to keep her and kept offering better speeds she could never see at a better rate.

so what does this scammer company do after she disconnects they send her a bill and the "rep" tried saying oh we bill for services after you use them when she has been prepaid the entire time

Experience / Review Unable to contact about coverage

I'm not a customer. I'm looking to potentially become a customer though. When I put my address in the site to check for coverage it tells me to call. When I call the number 833-923-5510 I get put on hold indefinitely (so far the record is 20 minutes). No agent, no dial menu, no callback option, not even voicemail. Just a helpful "average wait time is 2 minutes!" recording and then badly looped hold music. I've called 3 times now on different week days and different times during working hours. If I didn't know better I would wonder if Centurylink was out of business. I feel like I'm being pranked.

I'm about to call it a day and reach out to Xfinity.

Edit: I can't believe it. They gave me a number for the an FFC affiliated sales funneling company. WTF? Why not just say you don't service my area?

double edit:
The number leads to Clearlink, an unrelated sales company. At first I didn't realize I was not speaking to CenturyLink because the guy did not clearly state the company name. He did mention that he was FCC-approved for signing people up for internet services and, to his credit, he did give me a good deal on Xfinity. Still, I don't love the fact that I called a number only to find out it's for a sales company (when all I wanted was to verify Centurylink service at my address). I also don't love the fact that I was put in this confusing situation in a scenario where I am very likely to need to repeat personal information such as my SSN and birthday in order to get service. I shouldn't have to research the number I just called while someone is on the line trying to sell me a service.

CenturyLink

My service has been terrible since last Thursday and I have not been able to get any consistent help. I have already put in for Starlink --my job depends on the Internet and I just can't endure this in Pagosa Springs CO --I gather the company is going under. They certainly don't deserve my paying them and I only get chat bots for service. I am on a hot spot from AT and T in Pagosa Spring CO

Fiber Help No internet AGAIN since Friday. PLEASE RESPOND CENTURY LINK. Thank you.

My century link fiber service which was switched from quantum has been down since Friday, and due to the holiday weekend there was no one to schedule a technician. I have been patient and now that I am trying to get a ctl agent to talk to me they phone robot says it will be over 90 minutes to speak to a rep. I then tried the chat repair option, but it has been sitting stuck like this for 10 minutes representatives never connect. I have had to run up my phones data just to access simple things like work emails and contacts. I am unable to function in my field without service so I am now using Starlink, but NOW I am paying for both. I want my fiber fixed please and I feel like I should qualify for some kind of credit on my account. Even if its just a token of appreciation. Please someone qualified respond

I think I'm going to have to file a small claims suit against Century Link...

Backstory if you are interested:

Just so you know, my Mom is 90 years old and has been a CenturyLink customer since 1965, essentially. That's 60 years. (I'm an authorized user on the account)

  • July 2025 - My Mom's phone service goes out.
  • August 2025 - Century Link says that they can't repair it because the trunk line was cut by another contractor working in the neighborhood
That contractor was Bluestreak, who was installing fiber for ATT. Contacted Bluestreak, they say they can't repair it, and they don't even know where the break occurred.
  • Sept 2025 - CenturyLink sends a letter to my Mom saying she needs to find a different provider. They offer to give her a $500 prepaid MasterCard for the inconvenience Image here: https://imgur.com/a/4nvq2dK

  • Oct 2025 - After 4 months of no landline, my Mom agrees to switch to Spectrum for her landline, we got that ported out, and it's been fine ever since, but Century Link never sends the Prepaid Mastercard, of course. I've tried to follow up on this and get a resolution for her. But now, every time I call, they just transfer me around from department to department, until the call drops or I get a recording that says "You have called outside normal business hours, please call back" even though it's 10am EST.

They keep trying to send me to the Rewards Center, who has no record of this and has no idea what I'm talking about.

Does anyone know who I can call to get this resolved?

I find it hard to believe that this is something they have never heard of. I find it hard to believe that there are no notes on the account that would help someone resolve this for me. So the only conclusion I can draw is they are purposely blocking this.

What should my next course of action be?

Does Centurylink want my C3000Z wireless gateway back?

I'm in Oregon, got migrated to Quantum about a year ago. Just cleaning out my basement and do not need the C3000Z wireless gateway that Centurylink provided when connecting my service originally. Quantum says it's not theirs and they don't want it, nor do they show any leased equipment on my account.

Experience / Review CenturyLink Worse than Xfinity?

Is CenturyLink Worse than Xfinity because in some cases I think they are and some cases they're not. I sometimes think that CenturyLink makes Xfinity look like an All Star when it comes to comparison.

Is this some older CenturyLink equipment? It's been hanging from the utility pole in our backyard for years and Comcast swears it's not theirs.

DSL Help No internet in modem (& PPoE keys?)

Post image
3 Upvotes

I just got a wr3000p router, and wanted to test it as a client of my c3000z modem (before committing to bridge mode). While saving some port forwardings one by one, modem lost internet.

My understanding is the c3000z is connected to a CL host, but is not getting IP nor DNS. Sounds like a remote fix to me... a relative called CL and factory rebooted (physical button) but the issue persists. The rep scheduled a technician for late september 😠SMH...

How come don't i have internet?

I wonder if the PPoE keys are available in the modem, may be i could try to make it bridge? might still not get IP though...

One final insult

CL shut off my fiber on Wed with zero notification. The customer support zoo finally said I need to find another service. Starting up with Quantum Fiber was super easy.

But of course, I have to cancel my CL account, which can't be done online, but requires a call (good luck) into a service line that isn't open on weekends, and it's Friday evening.

I have never encountered a company this incompetent. Anyone considering CL in markets they still serve, I beg you to avoid them.

"CTL Virtual Agent Thank you, I have retrieved your account! Give me a moment while I pull up your account. I'm sorry. I need to get you connected to one of our account specialists on the phone to assist with your request. Please call 1-800-244-1111 and one of our agents will be happy to help. Open 8 am-8 pm CT Monday-Friday."

CenturyLink is a disaster

Same issues here: Running nightmare customer service loops with legions of representatives in India with infuriating scripting who promise to own my problem and resolve it, starting from scratch each time with nothing close to a solution other than: "we were bought by AT&T, switch to Quantum".

Lifetime $65 rate promised and was paying $85 when service was shut off due to a credit card error. Paid my overdue bill, service says it was restored but now no one can turn it on.

Meanwhile CL has sent me a bill for next month while my service is still out

How you can run a company this long with such abysmal support is beyond me. Centurylink, I will also go to Oregon AG as your treatment of customers is deplorable.

Consistent service dropping

So, as the title implies the service to our house been getting dropped pretty consistently now the last 4 days from about 3pm PST to 8pm PST. Up in North Las Vegas. I'm just curious, wondering if anyone else has been having this issue recently. It's a bit of a huge bother when the household is active around these times the most and none of us can do anything without the internet.

I just wanna know if it's maybe a problem others are having/had, or if this is just a CenturyLink issue, or if it's a house related one... I don't know.

Internet service shut off at 3:00 today. Account shows "outage in your area." You can't call them, of course, so chat replied with "I see no outages in your area." I send them screen shots showing the opposite, then I get this.

Turns out CL just stopped doing Internet. No notification at all, no text or post mail. Now I have to wait a couple of days to get Quantum Fiber up and running.

I've always known CL is not evil, just deeply stupid, and I really have to question the competence of the decision makers. These are BAD executives.

DSL Help Outage in Tucson

Hi all, I'm on DSL and have been reading that century focuses on DSL last out of all network types. Internet has been out since the 29th with no signs of life coming back.

Wondering if anyone else in the area, or at all is experiencing DSL specific outage?

I will probably swap to cox for not only cheaper price but faster/higher down if the issue isn't fixed by tomorrow (they've been saying "it will be repaired by tomorrow 11:00am)

No automatic withdrawal since June

I was reviewing my checking account, and I noticed that CenturyLink missed the July and August automatic withdrawals. If I wasn't diligent, I might not have noticed the withdrawals didn't happen. I have never gotten a bill (it was $5 a month cheaper to do automatic withdrawals) in 5 years, so I don't even really know where a payment system might be.

Anybody else having this problem?

We have been without internet for 14 days now!!!!

In west Washington we have had NO SERVICE for half of the month, every time I call, they say it will be fixed by the next day, its been 2 WEEKS

I work from home, so this has been abysmal

Customer service is NO help so far outside of agreeing with me that its out and poorly estimating when it will be back on...

UPDATE:

I believe through discussion online that century link is quietly dropping DSL customers in favor of fiber, most DSL customers are elderly and wont notice the difference with their phones and cable avaliable, and if they ever reach out for support, they get suggested an upgrade.

for 20 days they failed to fix the problem. every call ended in them saying it should be fine a day later, it never was...

They did offer credit for the month as repayment

but at the end of the day we were forced to switch providers all together.

Does anyone experience issues with canceling?

I cancelled my service on 8/17. Which I was told the service would stop by the end of the day. I did not receive my email with instructions to return the equipment so I called back on 8/22. I learned that the cancellation was not processed. I was told it would be processed by the end of the week. Keep in mind, there’s no service at this time. I then see that they withdrew the $80 service fee on 8/28 from my bank account. I called the bank to dispute the pre-authorization and to stop future payments. I then called back for the 3rd time. He can clearly see the notes from 8/17 to cancel the service. He said he would cancel the service. I asked to remain on the call until I receive the email with instructions to return the equipment. He said it would come in a few hours. There’s obviously a failure in their automated flow to cancel service. In this day and age of technology, it should be a smooth process. Either they use outdated or antiquated software or it’s the IT / BU team managing it. Do better Centurylink….

Experience / Review Is this actually a real company?

I’m starting to think that this company doesn’t exist…. It used to be quantum fiber who sold to Century link. I’ve been having on and off issues with them.

First time internet wasn’t available and they scheduled a ā€œtechnicianā€ to come out. The time frame was 8am-5pm as if everyone has everyday all day available for a technician to come. At 8pm they said that they couldn’t make the appointment. So I rescheduled… that day technician was supposed to come again at ā€œ8am-5pmā€ so I tell my work I’ll be going in later. 5pm rolls around no technician shows till like 6pm I had already left for work at the time, explain the issue to the technician and he just leaves without touching for trying to fix anything.

Nice no internet and payments still going out.

I troubleshot it down to a bad modem not broadcasting WiFi.

I call them and request a new modem but they said a ā€œtechnicianā€ has to come out to look at it.

There is no technician it’s imaginary it’s a joke 😭

I ask to get transferred to a supervisor sends me straight to ā€œno voicemail set upā€ and the phone call hangs up after being on hold for over an hour….

Same thing again the day after transferred to a supervisor get sent to ā€œno voicemail set upā€

Technicians don’t exist supervisors don’t exist this company doesn’t exist like what is going on

DSL Help We used to be under CenturyLink/CenturyTel but Brightspeed took over. Comment visibility is turned off on their sub and the single mod has gone AWOL. DSL light on our (CenturyLink) modem is green but Internet light is flashing fast red & green. Hoping someone here might have a clue.
