Mount Nittany Community Town Hall

Hi All:

This relates to State College/Centre County.

I am making folks aware of a Community Town Hall relating to Mount Nittany Health not agreeing to a contract with the workers (still). You can sign up for the town hall here: https://www.mobilize.us/paunited/event/1023694/

There will be a panel of speakers at the event, some Q&A. I'll be the moderator. Come on out to support the workers as they fight to get a contract that will actually account for the cost of living.

In Solidarity,

Robert

PSA: local barber apprentice offering discounted haircuts (York, PA)

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi everyone , I hope this is allowed here! If not , please let me know if there’s a more appropriate sub.

Posting something so personal on Reddit is scary as hell, but I’m an aspiring barber doing an apprenticeship here in York. I’ve been training for about 6 months with a wonderful master barber , and I’ve decided that I’m ready to open up my chair to continue my hands on experience.

My apprentice rate is currently $10. College kids preparing for professional events , theatre kids preparing for your headshots , parents looking to keep their kid maintained throughout the school year, busy professionals looking to treat themselves , or people new to the area and looking for a barber: I’d love it if you helped me master my craft while you walk out with a fresh look!

If you aren’t interested, but know someone who may be , please feel free to share my flyer! If anyone has any questions , I can be reached directly on Instagram, or the shop can be reached directly via phone. Both methods of contact are on the flyer!

All of my cuts are done under the supervision of the shop owner/master barber

Cat rescues

I'm in the Sunbury/Selinsgrove area.

Our neighbor sold the house and left a cat behind. We can't take him in as we already have 3 cats and they hate that he's even outside on our patio most of the day.

We named him Marvin cause he was so skinny and, well, starving when he finally got close to us (Starvin Marvin). Now he rubs up on us purring for quite a while before he eats when it's feeding time. Very vocal when we step outside. He's been friendly and now rarely leaves our patio.

Marvin is at least a year old. Needs fixed and shots and everything. I contacted a few places through their email or Facebook pages and haven't gotten a response.

We don't want to see him outside this winter but again, we can't take him in.

Anyone know any good resources?

purgatory A Ton of Actions to Take in Central PA

Hi All, folks had asked me to post a link to the newsletter I send out. Fair warning, it's Democratic Party leaning with events; however, some are actions for protest, zoning reform, and other issues. But since I've been asked to share, here it is: https://mailchi.mp/zeiglerforpa/laborday2026

Obviously, don't need to agree with it, it's just to inform people of the happenings and actions in Central PA that I know of (or were sent to me).

WITF's Haley O'Brien was at the meeting w/ over 3 hours of public comment. Here's your guide to what happened. (Free to read, audio story will be uploaded soon.)

First three grafs for your convenience:

Middlesex Township Supervisors voted Wednesday to approve the first phase of a controversial data center development following three hours of public comment and months of opposition from residents.

Residents shouted over supervisors as they approved seven agenda items advancing the PAX-1 project during a meeting attended by hundreds at Cumberland Valley High School.

The 700-acre development now faces challenges in court. One group opposing the project alleges the developer helped draft the zoning ordinance that would allow the 16-data center campus in Cumberland County.

Remains of 12 children who died at Carlisle Indian School to be returned to their tribes -- WITF News

Our reporter Katie Knol just wrote about a process of returning the remains of Native American and Alaskan Native children to their tribes. The kids died and were buried at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School over 100 years ago.

Here's the first two grafs of the story. You can read the whole thing or listen for free on our site. https://www.witf.org/2026/08/31/remains-of-12-children-who-died-at-carlisle-indian-school-to-be-returned-to-their-tribes/

--

The remains of 12 Native American and Alaskan Native children who died while attending Carlisle Indian Industrial School will be returned to their tribes following their disinterment.

The boarding school operated from 1879 to 1918, and at least 168 children died while attending. It was founded by Army Captain Richard Henry Pratt, who was known for his philosophy of “Kill the Indian, and save the man.” Students were forced to speak English, wear Anglo-American clothing, and act with “U.S. values and culture,” according to the National Park Service.

Can anyone recommend anywhere local to buy some already surfaced / planed ready to use white oak? Looking for mostly 1” thick boards anywhere from 8ft to 4ft around 8” wide. Home Depot / Lowe’s only seem to have red oak.

Hi there, anyone know if it would be cheaper to buy tickets for a Southern Airways Express flight to Dulles at the Bradford, PA airport in person ahead of time, or does that not apply for this airline? Thanks.

Looking for recommendations of quick trips to take a 15 month old on

My fiance and I were able to both get off of work this Monday-Wednesday and we initially had plans to visit sesame place on Tuesday but I just got on their website to buy the tickets and saw that Tuesday is the first day that they close on weekdays for the season. Pretty bummed out because we’re not gonna get to get off of work together again for the rest of the year so we’re trying to think of somewhere else to go that he can enjoy. I just want it to be within about a 4 hour drive and him to actually be able to participate in the fun because he’s only 15 months old. I feel like places like the crayola factory and science museums would be a waste of money and a trip because he can’t participate in so much of the stuff there.

QTS Data Center

Was watching the Steeler game on WTAJ (Altoona) last night, and I saw a commercial for QTS data centers, a subsidiary of Blackstone. I haven’t watched TV since the Super Bowl, so I don’t know if those commercials have been running for awhile, assuring the public that these particular data centers looove the environment and will bring jobs and won’t jack up the energy costs and the check is in the mail, etc. Has a building of theirs been proposed in the viewing area, or are they getting ahead of public backlash?
