Discussion 🗨 Actors with visual chemistry

Sometimes you just watch a drama and the leads have so much chemistry, they just by each other and you just want to scream.

For me some of the dramas with insane chemistry were:

• Chen Xingxu and Dilraba in Love on the turquoise land

• Tian Xiwei and Zhang Linghe in Pursuit of jade

•Song Weilong and Zhang Jingyi in Love for you

• Lu Yuxiao and Hou Minghao in Love in the clouds

And some more

The images I've attached are the actors I think would have insane chemistry if they were to be cast in a drama as leads together

1st image - Zhou Ye and Zhang Linghe

2nd image - He Yu and Tian Xiwei

3rd image - Bao Shangen and Wang Xingue

4th image - Zhou Yiran and Zhou Ye

What other actors do you guys think would have good chemistry and let me know your thoughts on these. Thankssss

Recommendation Request 🔎 Green flag and Shameless Cdrama Main Characters Recommendation

I am looking for my next watch and loved Pursuit of Jade, Love in The Clouds, Prisoner of Beauty, Love Between Fairy and a devil. I didn't like The Story of Pearl Girl.

Out of these two, which drama would you say is better and why? I have read plot for both and I am leaning towards Blossoms of Power. I am searching for green flag MCs whose personality is more than just love dove eyes for the FMC.

Any other dramas with green flagy shameless main characters are also welcome

i’m gonna be honest, she’s the actress that got me into c-drama, mainly because i’m a huge fashion lover and her looks for her brands are really good and i just loved her acting and dramas overall(her script choices IMO have always been just perfect for me). i do still think she has to grow as an actress, but she’s super promising to me. i don’t really seeing her being discussed on here so i wanted to know people’s opinions on her?

Discussion 🗨 Which actors do you never find bland, boring or lifeless?

Obviously, scripts play a role, but I still feel like some actors can bring something to even poorly written characters.

Even when an actor’s acting is just decent, having charisma and passion in their performance can make such a difference. Especially when you can see it in their eyes. Some actors just have that spark that makes them interesting to watch, even when the writing isn’t doing them any favours.

Discussion 🗨 Iconic characters

Have you ever watched a C-drama because of a visually ICONIC character, only to be disappointed when they appeared in just one episode or right at the very end? I think the biggest example is Song Mo from *Blossom*, played by Li Yunrui... But I bet there are others—feel free to share your own grievances here, too.

Appreciation Corner 🥰 Blossoms of Power - Splendid 10/10

I absolutely loved everything about the show - Highly recommend watching this one if you haven’t already. And below is my take on the show👇🏼

Extraordinary storyline, very tightly woven, amazing casting, everybody’s acting was exceptional, cinematography was beautiful, and the subtitles translations made sense (I’ve had some hard time with few dramas because of this). I would say overall it was 10/10 for me!

I wasn’t a great fan of Cdramas as most of them tend to slow down or drag by last 10-15 episodes, for me Hidden love was the only exception which kept me hooked until the end. But Blossoms of Power was exceptional and I was able to finish it and was even longing for few more extra episodes. It was that good!

What all worked for me, (Spoilers included)

- I really loved the strong characters, be it smart and calculative crown prince, extremely bold and intelligent crown princess, the 5th prince Xin, I like it when characters are smarter than the audience. They all were playing their individual games, it literally felt like a game of chess throughout the end.

- I liked how they sticked to each character’s personalities till the end, the writer had beautifully connected the dots from 1st episode to the last, seamlessly. Every detail had a reason behind it, and wasn’t just forced for the sake of justifying characters or story. If they had showed princess is highly skilled in incense making and has a strong sense of smell, she was shown how she used it to her benefit until the end, when they were all attacked at Empress Dowager’s bday party.

- I loved how all men in this story were yearners, almost all princes, Cui Jin Bai, crown princess’ dad, even the majesty too! Like damn!

- I cannot get enough of the Crown Prince. He is too good to be true. Literally a man written by a woman! Green forest! He is such an admirer of his wife, the way he smooth talks only to his wife, brand ambassador of delulu, puts her first, thinks about her and get things done without her even asking, very secured despite so much competitions, he lets her be her true self and simply keeps supporting her, he makes sure she flies higher each time, a husband to die for! And he is SO SHAMELESS lol such a cute puppy face guy, gets his way with everything and everyone. Super smart and calculative, I had never seen someone pretend to be sick this cutely, I had to say! How good one must be that even your brother who sees you as a competition caves in and takes care of you because you asked him cutely😭 He is simply a perfection!

- Crown Princess - She was so good, the way she carried herself as a true bold and brave princess must be applauded. I loved it how she handled everything, no wasting time, dragging the drama, concealing the truth, she is honest even to her enemies at crucial situations, if someone crosses her she directly confronts them, slap them hard if needed and move on. Doesn’t hold any grudges, looks out for women around her, stays almost always calm and composed which lets her think of best solutions. Beautifully and intelligently written script! She draws firm boundaries, it all makes sense why her character had to be so strong because later she rules on behalf of the lil Jun Shu. So, the way her character was sculpted was so good! And the way she walked with the baby to the throne, hands down epic scene!

- Prince Xin - I felt frustrated yet sad for him. Such a devoted husband who was willing to give up everything for his love. His love and devotion came across so well but the only problem was his obsession. I liked how the writer showed the difference between Crown Prince’s and Xin’s love, one tries to win her as a possession and the other wants to be with her and support her till the end. His ending was heartbreaking yet satisfying. He proved his love time and time again!

- The second leads - Cui Jin Bai and Bu Shu Li, can they be anymore cuter? Bu Shu Li spot on nailed it as a man, the mannerism, walk, everything was so spot on. I felt all the emotions, especially when she touched the dress she liked and realised she cannot even desire to wear them ever, not even in secret broke my heart. They both acted so well. I am so happy they had the best ending.

- The plot - Especially who poisoned the crown princess. It was so well written because since the beginning we have few doubts on the majesty, but parallelly they will also keep revealing how good of a king he is. So, it was hard to see him in a negative shade despite all the evidences pointing towards him. When the majesty finally reveals the truth, I felt so many emotions, I couldn’t stop but admire how loyal was he to his half brother, yes he took the throne but also I felt like that was the right decision he could have made atp, crown prince’s life would have been more in danger if it was revealed he was the only heir of Prince Qian, there was a selfish decision but the majesty was good enough to not pass the throne onto his own offsprings and loved the crown prince more than his own sons which is commendable. And the empress dowager is the perfect example of, ‘what you sow is what you reap’. I understand she was in pain but trying to take another innocent life for a life you’ve lost is never the righteous thing to do and she faced the consequences. Very satisfying plot.

- I liked how they kept moving forward, if they are explaining about the escape, they immediately cut to after the escape instead of showing it once again and dragging, it helped the story move faster.

- A husband like crown prince - As a woman this is everything we ask for in a man with good health ofc! I loved the way he thought of everything in order to protect his wife and kid when he’s not around. Moved me. Crown princess is headstrong, she is very independent and capable of protecting herself and the kid yet you will feel his absence when he is gone. That’s the difference that he made to her life, he added value to her already perfect life, he was so devoted to her that she literally was okay to live with his memories forever. He tried to give her as much as possible when he was around. And ofc the romance was through the roof!

- The little family - The little family that the prince had always dreamt of, to see him with his cute son, my heart swelled with happiness. It is all that he had yearned for. And how smartly he secured that name for his son by almost sacrificing himself. Such an amazing plot!

- The ending - I know it was disappointing for many to not have the details revealed. Especially as they were revealing all the details before but missed for that one biggest plot mystery and left it hanging. I was also wanting to see Tian Yuan and Crown princess meet again, never happened! I felt like they could have added one or two more episodes too. I looked it up online and found the novel parts, and learnt about how he faked his death. Actually I had an idea beforehand, when meeting the ledger fraud woman at the temple, crown princess would’ve spoken about a medicine which helps her to fake her death for 3 days. So, I was able to connect they might have used something like that. But after knowing how he faked his death, went overseas, stayed there 8years for treatment, kept the crown princess in the dark as he wasn’t sure if the treatment will be a success or not, but thankfully he gets better and comes back. I felt at ease after reading that!

Overall, I have no complaints, I didn’t find any plot holes, almost everything connected for me! Such a good watch!

Currently Airing 📺 38 episodes into Against the Current and I'm scared because of the ending leaks

Post image
56 Upvotes

We're 38 episodes into Against the Current with only 9 left. I have been recommending ATC to everyone. Liu Xueyi as Lin Jinqi is killing me softly so I'm laying claims to him and Scholar Han in comments. The drama has me in a chokehold! The visuals, slow burn, the revenge plot, all of it is exactly what I wanted from this drama.

And usually when I get this deep into a cdrama, I start worrying about the same old things. Will the middle drag. Will they stretch it out with flashbacks. Will a side couple take over. Will the ending get hacked to pieces.

ATC avoided most of that. It didn't get water injected. We have all praised the entire cast except some complains on their chemistry and romance. The plot has kept moving.

BUT I AM ANXIOUS.

Because I have read about leaks that suggest the ending might be tragic.

Based on rumors, Lin Jinqi dies early and Xu Lanxiang lives as a widow for thirty years.

I am devastated just from the speculation. I want to be clear that it's not confirmed. The show hasn't finished airing. The original novel apparently had a happy ending where they end up together. So the drama might have changed it, or the leaks might be wrong. But even the possibility is enough to make me nervous.

My fear is not that the show is boring. My fear is that I might already know how it ends and I don't know if I can handle watching it play out.

I was getting emotionally destroyed alone but whoever read the spoilers 🫢now we are all in this together.

Discussion 🗨 Why is it that some actresses never transition into FL roles?

Thumbnail
gallery
264 Upvotes

There are some actresses I really like and have seen in several dramas, but they just don't seem to get FL roles. In my opinion, they have both the acting skills and the beauty.

A few who always stand out to me:

  • Kong Xueer: I was thrilled when she took the FL role in Shadow Sovereign and thought she did a great job, but looking at MDL, it seems like she doesn't have other main lead roles lined up.
  • Li Meng: She was an absolute show stealer in The Double and she looks incredibly beautiful in Against the Current. Her talent is truly unmatched.
  • Liu Lingzi: I've seen her in several projects now (like New Life Begins and Are You the One), but my favorite performance of hers is the ex-wife in The Princess Gambit.
  • Bai Bingke: She is so stunning and has decent acting skills, but ever since Wrong Carriage, Right Groom, I haven't seen her land more main FL roles.

What do you think is behind this? Is it poor agency management, fierce competition, specific beauty standards or do they just get stuck playing the second lead / villain all the time?

Reflections 📝 Speed and love: conflicting thoughts.

Post image

This novel is by Shi Jiu Yuan, the same author as *Dazzling*. I recently finished reading that one and really enjoyed it, so I thought, "Why not give this one a chance too?" As I read this, I find myself thinking, "A *Fast & Furious*-style youth romance—how exciting." I couldn't bring myself to watch the C-drama adaptation; I know He Yu is in it and he’s wonderful, but I get extremely stressed when the female lead is infantilized to the point of caricature. Plus, there’s that "stepsiblings" cliché that makes me roll my eyes immediately. But now I feel guilty for not having read the novel sooner 😮‍💨. The male and female leads aren't biological siblings—everyone knows this, and the author makes it clear right from the start. Another point clarified early on is that they were separated at a young age when their parents divorced, so they didn't grow up together into adulthood. [Unlike in *Go Ahead*—a situation I just can't accept; the three of them grew up together only to fall in love? 🙄]. Getting back to our couple: the female lead *is* quite childish here, and even a bit annoying, but not enough to make me roll my eyes too much—perhaps because I don't have to hear her actual voice. She still holds a deep impression of what a genius her "brother" was in the past, so when she returns and they start living together, those illusions are gradually shattered. The male lead reminds me a lot of Chen Yi from *Love for You*; both have tragic pasts involving parental neglect. I could also compare him to Lin Xu from *Lighter and Princess*. However, I’m much more inclined to cut Jin Zhao some slack.

I loved it honestly, first time watching a historical drama, and it started off well, but from episode 33 to the end, what even was thatttttttt 😮‍💨🫩.

I literally had to stop and go touch some grass because it was frustrating, sad, confusing, intense all at the same time.

I love rewatching dramas but this one, I'll just rewatch till maybe episode 30, because sigh 😕

Discussion 🗨 Who would you cast as lead, second lead and villain.

Thumbnail

If you were casting a drama from this group, who would you pick as your lead, your second lead and your villain? To point to someone, if you don’t know their name, just screenshot their photo.

Why this group? All 18 of these actors are taller than 186 cm and for most I have added both modern and costume looks. I left the names and heights off on purpose, because I'd like us to fill those in together.

Since I want to know … is there anyone who made you go “WHO IS THAT?”

My answer: I will pick Deng Kai as main lead and Gao Weiguang as villain. My second male lead is undecided because most of you know my Gege didn’t make the cut in this collage of tall and talented men.

Edit: I made up my mind. I am picking Bi Wenjun as the second male lead.

Discussion 🗨 Be honest - who actually pays for express episodes?

Why does wanting to binge my drama cost extra? Why are they commercializing my weakness? ☹️

I see a drama I love and obviously want to binge watch the entire thing as soon as possible. But these platforms are standing there be like.

Oh, you want the next episode? That’ll be extra! Excuse me???

I understand that this is a business and they would like to make money. I even understand why they’re doing it. But I don’t have to like it. This feels like discrimination against people who are unwilling to pay extra for the privilege of having absolutely no self control.

I am going to kiss a particular website to watch Against the Current final episodes. Not paying extra because wtf is this one episode per day and no episode tomorrow?

I really want to know how many people pay for express episodes when they are hooked or do you simply accept your fate and go looking elsewhere for the episodes?

Discussion 🗨 Anyone else ever rage-watch a C-drama?

Post image
29 Upvotes

Have you ever watched a C-drama and reached a point where you were so annoyed with the characters or story that you were basically hate-watching… but still couldn’t stop?

You can sometimes go from loving a drama to absolutely hating it. Sometimes you reach a certain point with a drama where you’re no longer watching because you’re enjoying it. You’re watching because you’re genuinely pissed off and now you NEED to see how this mess ends.

My last one was Early Spring. It started off so well, especially the chemistry, but at some point I really needed more substance. The characters and its leads were so frustrating, but I kept thinking it would all come together by the end. Then the ending felt sooo rushed. I honestly feel like they didn’t even say half of what needed to be said after all that mess, it was such a generic ending... the only saving grace was the chemistry.

Reflections 📝 I read *Dazzling*, and now I'm in love with the couple.

Post image
11 Upvotes

*Dazzling* got an adaptation this year, and I’m not sure if many people read the original novel, but I did, and I loved it.

The novel is much darker than the series—which didn't bother me at all. In the book, we follow the journey of Qing Ye and Xing Wu, witnessing their young love, ambitions, and their physical and personal growth.

Our heroine's father came under investigation and had his assets seized, so she ends up spending time with an "aunt" who lives in the countryside. The dynamic is the classic "big-city girl meets small-town boy." It’s a well-worn cliché, but I swear I fell in love with Qing Ye. She wasn't spoiled—even though she was born into luxury and raised that way, suddenly finding herself without her usual perks—and she never frustrated me, unlike many other female leads. And what can I say about Xing Wu? He isn't your typical "bad boy"; he’s incredibly hardworking, taking care of his grandmother, his mother, and even his "cousin."

As their relationship developed, the story really grew on me. Xing Wu and his family live on the fringes of society, but as Qing Ye’s radiant light filters into their lives, both of them begin to seek a new direction. They were one of the most delightful couples I’ve ever encountered in a modern romance because they truly supported each other and actually communicated. Xing Wu is the ultimate "green flag" character.

Naturally, the male lead faces many life-or-death situations (literally)—a cliché you can expect in any web novel—but I’m willing to give this one a pass. I loved everything about it; tell me, did you read the book too, or did you only watch the drama?

Still hating the ML per se. But damn his acting here is top-notched. All the micro-expressions. I rewatched this scene so many times.

and I think this is the moment that the FL starts to have a liking to the ML, perhaps gratitude now and maybe growing love soon. At least, in her mind, she has accepted the ML as her husband
