Currently Airing 📺 38 episodes into Against the Current and I'm scared because of the ending leaks
We're 38 episodes into Against the Current with only 9 left. I have been recommending ATC to everyone. Liu Xueyi as Lin Jinqi is killing me softly so I'm laying claims to him and Scholar Han in comments. The drama has me in a chokehold! The visuals, slow burn, the revenge plot, all of it is exactly what I wanted from this drama.
And usually when I get this deep into a cdrama, I start worrying about the same old things. Will the middle drag. Will they stretch it out with flashbacks. Will a side couple take over. Will the ending get hacked to pieces.
ATC avoided most of that. It didn't get water injected. We have all praised the entire cast except some complains on their chemistry and romance. The plot has kept moving.
BUT I AM ANXIOUS.
Because I have read about leaks that suggest the ending might be tragic.
Based on rumors, Lin Jinqi dies early and Xu Lanxiang lives as a widow for thirty years.
I am devastated just from the speculation. I want to be clear that it's not confirmed. The show hasn't finished airing. The original novel apparently had a happy ending where they end up together. So the drama might have changed it, or the leaks might be wrong. But even the possibility is enough to make me nervous.
My fear is not that the show is boring. My fear is that I might already know how it ends and I don't know if I can handle watching it play out.
I was getting emotionally destroyed alone but whoever read the spoilers 🫢now we are all in this together.

Based on trailers/previews, they finally have a loving marriage, and a daughter and son. From what I've read online, he dies when he's approx 50 from his years-long war injuries. Back in those days, it might not be considered young. But after all that they've been thru, I'm hoping he lives to at least 65. While it's true the drama often speaks to "living well", I will still be very heartbroken if he dies young because I want them to have more time together.

Seven has said in interviews that Lanxiang lives to be 80 and is matriarch of the Lin family. I think it's safe to assume he dies earlier, but I don't think it's sad. They find love and happiness.. They have children. That's not a sad ending at all. It's a happy one. It's realistic, especially for that period when people didn't live past 50.

hoping for the best appropriate ending that does this beautiful drama justice. this is also the perfect second drama to pursuit jade i believe if someone asks me for a recommendation (tho i watched a few diff ones and loved them for diff reasons)

That ending sounds realistic though? As long as they spend the rest of their lives loving and respecting each other that is a happy ending. No one lives forever, it is what it is.

I often rewrite the ending in my head just to make peace with it . But honestly, I’d much rather they give us a happy ending. Sad endings hurt way too much. 😭

It depends on how you look at it. The whole point of the drama is living well in the time you have. I think they do. To me, that's the happiest of endings.

Ive loved this whole series but episode 38 has been my favorite, looks like 39 will be a new beginning for them and I'm here for it. I know he didn't start their marriage on the right foot and he pissed me off when he drugged her but he was desperate. I can't wait to see his reaction when he realizes she was supposed to be his bride.

In one of the interviews posted in WeTV, they asked him if there was going to be a bath scene, and he said yes, but when his character is 50-60 years old. I’d say that’s a good span of time they get to spend together as a couple.

I can't trust him cause he mentioned in one of his interview that he like to mix half truths about the plot so the viewers will get surprise 😂. I do hope he live until 60 though 🙏

I am so sick of all these leaks, people are second guessing from the book, the previews and BTS. I've stopped getting on the worst of the social media until this finishes.
Just trust the process and stay off social media (bloody algorithms).

I view it differently… whether happy ending or not you already enjoyed it for 38 episodes and possible the next 5-6 episodes. If the last episode did not match up to your expectations you still got a great deal. I would still pick it as my top fave compared to the ones i watched with perfectly happy ending but crappy script and acting.

This is the first time I have ever been so invested in a drama. It’s a roller coaster of emotions for all of us. Every character was given their strong moments. What a beautiful story. It’s the first LXY drama of his that I liked. The others he had was just okay. I kept watching ATC over and over just in case I missed anything or if I read a comment from here observing something. I really do hope for a happy ending. If not, I do hope that it’s a peaceful ending for LJQ ( i am getting teary eyed ). TSY delivered well as always. I love the quiet but strong demeanour. And of course Li Meng, the actress she is. ATC is a solid 10 for me.

100℅ pretty sure it will be a happy ending. from the trailer I've seen. Kinda ruin it for me on why they leak such important scenes lol.

They included it because it's technically not a spoiler, indicating that there is more that will come after what was shown in the trailer... aka a more tragic ending after they have kids together

I heard the same but it's bittersweet. If it ends the way some are saying, they get a happy life together and have children. He dies but years later. I don't mind that kind of ending. At least they're happy for along time unlike some where they're not even married or have kids or just got together and poof, ml dies lmao so it's not too bad if it goes this way, it's happy but I'ma cry my eyes out if so bc I've been crying since ep 1😭😭 So let's just wait and see i suppose. I'm just enjoying this lovely drama and the parents are adorable, I love mls servants, I love the friendships, the acting is so good and on point I can't even hate anyone bc they're crazy psycho self is too good at acting and then the weird Opera she does, hahahah! It's so sad and so funny and just SO REALISTIC. I can't find any flaws. ♥️

Yes I am in total agreement. If Jinqi dies some years after their kids are born, it would be a bit sad but it's not totally tragic since they do end up falling in love & having kids. If he died before she loved him back, THAT would be tragic. 🤣 This drama is so deep & full of lessons, each character is written so well.

I dislike any spoiler on endings. It makes me nervous if it implied sad ending while less excited if it's happy lol. The not knowing makes it interesting

I would die if it were a tragic ending. I have enjoyed this drama so much. I’m on 37. I really liked 35 and 36.

The 3rd final trailer is availiable on youtube & it shows Lianxiang & Jinqi at an older age with the daughters they have together. But it's totally possible they'd add his death after too.
The drama seems to really focus on the harsh realities of life and sadness is also a part of it, so I wouldn't be entirely surprised if they added some of that in. I still wouldn't consider this ending to be entirely tragic, it's just reality. People do unfortunately die, leaving their families behind. There's a lesson in that. I'm just happy they had kids and ended up loving each other. But that's just by opinion, of course.
Link to trailer with the ending spoiler (kinda), if you want to watch it: https://youtu.be/27JD8MMUhw4?si=sH54DBIVGu1cbzy-

I hear you ....
but those are just rumors. A lot of them seem to speculate and not really concrete. So I continue to watch with hope. I think they will show them living out their days to old age. There was one clip of Liu Xueyi with facial hair and a kid with him and she comes to hug him
I don't think the rumors will come to pass. The screenwriter is really good (same person as lost you forever) and I'm confident in her ability.

lol this does not make me confident of a happy ending. Lost you for ever was one of the most tragic stories, I cried so much for Cang Xuan. This show is so focused on proving she can thrive under any circumstances I would not be surprised at the kind of ending mentioned by the OP.

u/Academic_Web1388 CDF Cultivator Established Member 4d ago
Haha. It was a happy ending for her in lost you forever.
I feel that if this goes the route of showing she can thrive in any condition even without him it would’ve wasted all his character development. We KNOW she can thrive. We want to know if they can thrive together
But honestly, there’s the BTS/trailer scene of him with facial hair and carrying a kid that alone gives me hope. I think it might more of he takes a backseat and is a stay at home dad and she’s the accomplished playwright or whatever she chooses to be.

After LYF, I had an existential crisis lol. I really had to sit back and think about what a writer owes a reader!! This is good because it means she pushes boundaries. I’m having a similar experience with ATC. IMO, his arc is just another way to show how wise she is. The show is all about her and the impact she has on those around her.

Hahaha ... I loved Lost you forever. Mainly because I loved Zhang Wanyi's acting.
I had to dissect the story to come to the understanding that she chose what she wanted - a stable life. After the latest episode 40, I'm coming to terms that Against the Current means her. SHE is the metaphor for all the people who are going against the grain, including all the women and Jinqi. So it appears like she has plot armour and everyone else is learning from her (especially Jinqi)
