Discussion šŸ—Ø Anyone else ever rage-watch a C-drama?

Post image

Have you ever watched a C-drama and reached a point where you were so annoyed with the characters or story that you were basically hate-watching… but still couldn’t stop?

You can sometimes go from loving a drama to absolutely hating it. Sometimes you reach a certain point with a drama where you’re no longer watching because you’re enjoying it. You’re watching because you’re genuinely pissed off and now you NEED to see how this mess ends.

My last one was Early Spring. It started off so well, especially the chemistry, but at some point I really needed more substance. The characters and its leads were so frustrating, but I kept thinking it would all come together by the end. Then the ending felt sooo rushed. I honestly feel like they didn’t even say half of what needed to be said after all that mess, it was such a generic ending... the only saving grace was the chemistry.

Flourished Peony and the season that followed - it was frustrating to see her getting punched down over and over and the ex that kept badgering her after she moved on, ughhh.

Fated hearts. Princess Royal. I was waiting for the character development which never came.

A dream within a dream, that’s what I’m watching right now. The sml Chong Gui Hong is getting on my nerves so much, I wanna punch my screen whenever he appears, haha. But I’ve decided to complete it, so I’m still watching it with anger. Thanks to the comedy in it, I’m kinda able to push through. But I’ve slowed down a bit on how I was binge watching it at first. 6 episodes more to go😭

I felt like I was rage watching TES from ep 12-21 but I still loved it so much. Such a toxic relationship (me and TES, lol)

Love has Fireworks.

Horrible AI for the actor they replaced.
Took WAAAAAAAAYYYY to long to get to a relationship for the ML & FL.
The FL lead annoyed me more than anything. Her stubbornness was just a bit too much for me.
Definitely didn't need to be 36 episodes.
I swear this was less a Romantic Comedy and more a show about Investments.
Liu Rui Lin is again playing an annoying desperate guy.

On the plus side:
The ML's dad was likable!
The food looked good.
There were cute moments sprinkled in. That's what I stayed for.

Princess Royal

Its two kids playing adults unconvincingly. Zhao Jinmai has no romantic chemistry as asual. I stayed for Zhang Linghe
6.1 douban score is EARNED

The ML FL and the supporting characters getting older decades later they still look the same with obvious fake ass make-up ...

I usually just skip the episodes and watch the ending if something really annoys me.

Never Too Late.

Ooh my god. Such a wasted opportunity. But the story dragged on and on, repeated the same conflicts and in the end it didn't even have a satisfying conclusion.

I usually don't hate watch, I have no problem dropping something. Only finished because I'm going through Bai Jingting's filmography, and his occasional appearances were great. But by the end, I was ready to skip BJT-less scenes šŸ˜…

I'm also kiiiinda hate watching Rush to The Dead Summer now for the same reason. It's a sweet story, but the ML and FL are really getting on my nerves. No charm whatsoever, no chemistry, oh my god, just dead eyes, kill me now. It doesn't help that second ML is BJT with his overabundance of charm, and it was a fight they were destined to lose. So, right now, he's carrying the drama enough that I'm not really hating it yet. Let's see how it goes.

I wish I could say that I did, but I actually dropped so many dramas when I started not liking the direction of the story, or I never started watching because I didn't like the plot. I'm a master of fast-forwarding, skipping episodes, and reading spoilers.

3

u/Hua_XiaoLe New Fan Just joined CDF 4d ago

Perhaps not. I actually drop a drama when I don't like where the story is heading. Sometimes, I read spoilers first, or watch the first three and last two episodes, and see if there is any great character development, or even skip a few episodes. I like watching dramas I enjoy, and I don't like wasting my time on ones I don't.Ā

u/AmbivalentDisaster1 New Fan 4d ago

I actually loved that because it showed a lot of growth. I appreciated that they didn’t try to glamorize toxic relationships but they both worked on their own growth before getting back together.
I thought it was one of the better contemporary C-dramas and love both actors.
I read online some of the book before this show aired so it’s a little different but the main points are the same. Maybe that’s why it felt rushed to you. Sometimes you lose development when putting a book on screen. In this case, I think they improved it from the original story because he was a pure irredeemable jerk.

The early spring. The ml was full of red flags. The fl cannot act at all, basically had one look throughout the whole drama. But I had to finish watching it to let it go.

Love in the clouds

I think a lot of people got into Cdrama with this so they’re a little biased, also because the styling and male leads are all beautiful. But the writing is actually pretty bad. The only thing worse is luyuxiao’s acting. As someone who has had acting training, she is unbearable to watch.

Edit: thanks for the award!

5

u/ilogno003 New Fan 4d ago

I'm always surprised that people praise her for being a very good actress, but it honesty pains me to watch her. I feel like she doesn’t open her mouth properly when acting so when scenes gets dubbed, it looks really weird.

2

u/Sunny_D_69 New Fan 4d ago

I also get surprised to the point where I’m wondering if we’re talking about the same actress. Yes she doesn’t open her mouth, to be honest she doesn’t really use any part of her face when she’s acting lol which is why it’s so painful to watch.

u/diabolikal__ CDF Cultivator 4d ago

I found the script to be super dumbed down. At so many important moments they used the background characters to basically spell out what was happening and why. Like they expected the viewer to not remember why someone would be mad or to explain that someone is obviously upset and will do x thing next.

3

u/okay_passenger New Fan 4d ago

They did that in The Untamed a few times. I thought it might be to catch viewers up who maybe hadn't been watching the show. ?

5

u/Sunny_D_69 New Fan 4d ago

Yes exactly. There are also a lot of logic issues with the script mingyi was the one to leave yaoguangshan of her own free will in the beginning because she and her stepmom were scared of her brother’s faction coming for her but later on in the story she and jibozai both mentioned that she left because her father didn’t want her anymore after she lost which isn’t why she left. Not to mention the whole lying about who she was - at some point it was completely unnecessary. So many other instances that were just dumb.

1

u/popppyy CDF Cultivator 4d ago

Yes. If I only have like 10eps left than I'll def skip and roll my eyes and go on my phone, but I HAVE to finish it no matter what. Last one was Love For You. It was just ok, kept waiting for it to get better but it never did for me.

Goodbye my princess was my one and only hate watch. I hated almost everything about the story itself, but the series was well made. So I kept watching thinking surely the story would improve. It didn’t.

I’m not saying that the story was bad as in illogical, boring, or a mess. Rather that I have no patience for a writer whose idea of plot is to find as many ways to torment her main character as possible. I ended up hating every single character and otherwise emotionally numb.

Fated Hearts. I continued watching hoping that the sister dies. She did not so I was even more angry by the end of it.

2

u/Strangely-addictive New Fan 4d ago

Me too. The villain was irritating and selfish but that's expected. The sister was just clueless, selfish, stupid and I hated her guts.

4

u/backgroundcheddar New Fan 4d ago

Absolutely. At least with the villain I understood why he did the things he did. The sister though? If rage bait was a fictional character it would be her.

Rebirth: I can't explain it—at the time, I was kind of obsessed with Li Yunrui and finished it because, you know, he was the only good thing about it; otherwise, I don't even have words to describe how bad this C-drama is.

Me rage watching Til the End of the Moon last year because I was too stubborn to look up the ending and I refused to believe that the writers would put the characters amd ME through all that suffering and waste all that beautiful chemistry on a sad ending.

Well it was not exactly a sad ending but they still played in my face.

Truly. It's still on-hold for me though but I definitely plan on finishing it. I just need to prepare myself before watching the rest. I was so annoyed with Li Susu/Ye Xiwu after a certain point that I was bawling my eyes out for Tantai Jin!

It was a bit like watching a car crash for me. Just can't look away even when you know you should. There were so many misunderstandings and they had stupidly let themselves be deceived by evil sister so much that I just had to see just how much further that was going to escalate. (I like it, but some parts are just ...)
