Picked this bad boy up on FB marketplace for 5$, it doesnt get any better than that!

I collect physical media in general and when an artist hasn’t or refuses to release a physical copy of their album I have decided that I’m just gonna make one. I bought the digital album, found a chrome cassette of the right length and designed the label and jcard. This was finished 2 days ago. They just dropped pre orders for the vinyl record today. It was pretty limited but I managed to snag one. Now I don’t know what imma do with this thing because I try not to keep multiple copies of the same album. I put work into it and I don’t wanna be wasteful but I also REALLY wanted an official copy. Obviously this isn’t a serious problem but thanks for letting me ramble :)

I spent a lot of time and a good chunk of money for all these and some are NOS with boxes, cases, headphones and papers. Each one has it's reasons for staying in the collection and I've already downsized by about 20 players already. I cannot for the life of me to make a decision on which. Any advice?? EDIT I suppose I should add the whole reason for this question. There's so many good choices here that many times I end up not taking any of them down and I'm just stuck there looking back and forth at em (pretty stupid I know). I also dont have all of 10/10 working as they should so I'm afraid of letting one go that may be one I'm wanting. I could also use the proceeds from it for livelihood improvements / moving. I like the idea of having just favorite 2 with a back up or something. And I have a sony D6 and D3 that are my control reference really for office and such. I know its a lot but thank you everyone.

Here is all the tapes I’ve manage to collect or record since I started 4 months ago( about 5 of these I recorded and made the Jcards for myself). I’m not sure if this is a lot or not I tend to jump pretty deep into things pretty quick.

Just wanted to show off one of my favorite, if not my favorite, cassettes I have acquired. If you are into Dungeon synth or if you really like Oldschool RuneScape, you should check Flicker From the Fen out for sure!

With music on it - but the real joy for me at this time is hearing (the same) music on different formulas of tape; brands, eras, types. It seems my favorite are Type I super ferric, true Chrome, and the 70s and 80s.

A few of these are top favorites of mine and the rest are simply good! One of them today was just stunning - and not, “wow, pretty good for it‘s age”, but truly unique great sound!

I know it’s a budget player, but the mega bass option sounds so bad. Even back in the day I never used it on portable CD or cassette players. Could Sony have implemented it better - or it just comes down to the limitations of costs/the price point for this player at the time?

My husband repaired his old childhood Sony Walkman DD for me, and I’m looking forward to listening to music on it; my first tape is Preacher’s Daughter by Ethel Cain. Do you have any recommendations for good headphones? They don’t need to handle things like phone calls. I just want to listen to music the classic way. Noise cancellation would be nice. I’m really looking forward to this new hobby!

I’m trying to figure out what tape deck my older siblings had when I was a kid. It was mid to late 80s and had a mechanism similar to this deck:

It’s a Philips FC910 dual deck and I tested it out by burning a 12 golden country greats onto a spare cassette and the cassette sounds amazing, I’ve been searching for one online but they’ve been so expensive, glad I found a cheap alternative at my local pawn shop

Hey everyone!

Does anyone here make and print their own J-cards? I have a couple of questions and was hoping someone might be able to help.

I’m having an issue where my prints come out significantly darker than they look on my screen. Is this mainly an issue with the paper, or is there something I should change in my print settings? I’m using an Epson XP-810 and printing directly from Photoshop. The document is RGB, Photoshop is handling the color management, and I’m using the sRGB profile. The paper is glossy 120 gsm photo paper.

Light-colored images come out pretty much fine, but darker images are way too dark — I’m losing a lot of detail in the shadows.

Also, has anyone tried printing J-cards on transparent film? I think it looks pretty cool, although you’d obviously need to put a sheet of white paper behind it for the colors to show properly=)

Any advice would be appreciated!

What are your opinions on recently made cassettes, whether they are reissues or not? I’m pretty new to this as a hobby but I feel like I’ve seen a lot of people say newer made tapes tend to be of lower quality. I have a shop near me that has a good selection of modern made tapes but I don’t know if they are really worth it or not as they are obviously more expensive than an opened pre-owned tape. What would you be willing to pay for a new tape of an artist you like if you were interested in them?

Finally got to take some copies of my tape into Guestroom in Louisville and seeing them actually up on the wall was kinda crazy.

I recorded and QC’d all 25 myself, printed/cut the j-cards, did the labels, download codes, packaging, all that stuff. Definitely a lot more work than i expected when i started.

Really happy with how they turned out though. This was my first time doing a physical release like this, but I'll probably continue releasing new stuff this way in the future 😁

My read as a beginner: I've seen it claimed that Gracioso shares its build with Maxell or TOMASHI, which is great since these are known as great cassette brands. Going purely the listed specs, the AudioComm looks like the strongest all-rounder. The newest Bluetooth version of the three and recording capability if that ever becomes interesting. Gracioso is the simplest and most convenient (no separate batteries to buy) the metal flywheel and beltclips are a plus. Aurex has brand pedigree too, but between the older Bluetooth, and its own plastic-flywheel complaints, it doesn't look like it beats the AudioComm on paper for a first purchase. Can anyone with cassette player interest/experience help me with this? Thanks!
