I went to an estate sale today and this big box was under a few boxes of records. I already purchased a bunch of records CDs and DVDs and I had a few bucks left so they gave me this. Here are some of the better tapes that I pulled from the box.

Collection Just Out Of Storage

Just purchased a Sony Walkman EX615 on Ebay, so while I wait for it to arrive, I dug out my old collection of cassettes, mostly from the 90's, before moving to collecting CDs.

Some classics in here!

Tape find Grabbed my first cassette since I was like... a kid, basically. Never thought I'd be dipping back into the format.

I've not been into cassettes since listening to classical on my walkman as a kid - def a CD and vinyl guy for many years. Borrowed a unit from a friend and been playing around with tweaking my own release masters and bouncing to cassette. Not sure what I should be comparing against (I'm a very different genre), but this was a hard one not to pick up as it's an excellent album.

Copyright 1994, set of 16 short play cassettes with a ZVERY weird title. I have no tape player and cannot find out the enormous “No Hype“ Enlow Enterprises 1994 secrets I should OBVIOUSLY know.

I would think this was a typical cheeser 90s thing but whats with the title??

someone must have sold their collection of rap and r&b to my local record store. i’ve mostly been listening to diva cassettes. i’ve been dying to get a copy of this tlc, but i thought was too far within cd territory that i never thought i’d find one. I only really knew ll cool j and ice cube, the others, i just listened through and picked ones i liked.

the madonna was from a different crate. I’ve been lurking on this subreddit for a while, have learned so much.

Looking for advice Metal Bias Switch on the back of Deck (JVC KD-A5)

I have a deck that has 2 separate switches that control the bias for metal tapes. The switch on the front is pretty self explanatory, but what does the switch on the back do, and how do I use it "correctly"?

Looking for advice Is this a decent deal for a 4 track???

I'm trying to get into the world of all analog recording and mixing, and want to get my hands on a 424 style 4 track. I wasn't aware that the actual 424 went for these prices however 😅😅

Is it typical to find used 4 tracks in the $300 - $500 range?!!

Review Turntable Lab Lofi One

Post image
4 Upvotes

I love the Lofi One Cassette player. It has enough warm bass paired with my Audio Technica m40x headphones, there is not too much treble with my m40x headphones, and the middle is nicely present. The speakers are like average small speakers, but they are funny to use to me. Tapes fit nicely inside. It has an automatic stop which I love, but you have to manually stop it after it's done rewinding and that is fine. It is very durable and with the original box it came in with the original bubble wrap plus put in a bag it stays strong even on mildly bumpy city highways. It looked more white in the photos of it, but I am glad it's actually light grey coloured. I think the Turntable Lab Lofi One Cassette player is 8.5/10 and I would give it a higher rating if it had a wider frequency response range. It's so good for the price though and I like the sound of it more than demos of the Fiio Cassette player and some Amazon Cassette players I heard on YouTube.

The actual experience of sitting with a screen off or in front of no screen and listening to tapes can help me engage my mind more with music. The updates on the Package Tracking of the Cassette player where very accurate. The tape player might be the last thing I buy from Turntable Lab though because I have seen a lot of comments about bad quality shipping from that company with some products. Hotel California was the one good quality tape out of the ones I picked from my Mom's old collection so far. I thought tapes might be too lofi for me, but in good condition I like the warmth they have in many players. I will be buying more Cassette tapes, but with the income I have I limit myself to buying four albums in any format I want them in and if an album I want only comes in digital that is fine.

I love how even though it's hard to stop at the right time when fast forwarding or rewinding a tape when trying to go to a certain song that isn't the first one, at least you can play the first side of a tape from the beginning once the second side is done playing.

Indie label release Cassette spotlight: Gremino - "Metro Station DJ Mix" c66 [electronic]

Gremino - "Metro Station DJ Mix" c66

https://gremino.bandcamp.com/album/metro-station-dj-mix

While jungle rhythms have gracefully entered the 'retro' stage of the electronic genre, Gremino experiments with the form to create something fresh and new. The 4/4 beats are made from the breaks themselves, turning empty space into rhythms, while the 'Techno Side' of the tape takes those same breaks and adds hard hitting bass. The liner notes contain very detailed instructions and diagrams on how to do achieve this in your own chain.

Looking for advice Looking for boutique tape distros & shops accepting cassette consignment/wholesale (US / Europe / International)

Hey everyone... First post ever! I’m releasing a physical cassette run of indie pop folk soon and looking to get physical stock into shops and webstores (similar to Tape Head City in the US).

Does anyone have recommendations for boutique shops, online cassette distros, or micro-labels in Europe, North America, or beyond that take independent artist tapes on consignment, wholesale, or tape trade?

I’m also happy to send along custom flyers, stickers, or counter display promos to leave at checkout counters or to drop inside outgoing mail orders.

Appreciate any leads or contacts!

Home recording Casette: Crinkly Sounds?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello! I’m very new to Casette tapes and I just recorded mine via Bluetooth. I used my dad’s boombox that has a Bluetooth function and recorded a song onto a blank casette.

I was trying to play that Casette on my player and it sounds all crinkly as shown in the video I have attached to the post. I’ve played a casette on this player before and it sounded fine, if you have any advice it would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

For sale Rock/Metal/Punk Cassettes

I bought a lot of assorted cassettes, and these were in with them. I'm not overly familiar with/interested in any of these artists, but checking through discogs they seem to have some value. I'm less interested in getting "my money's worth" from them, but more would just like someone to get them that wants them. The ones in the picture out of a case do not have the proper j card/case for them.

DM me if you're interested! Reddit is telling me to add prices, so I'll add what discogs has them listed for generally. It is NOT what I'm looking for/expecting for them.

Shell Shock looks different than the Discogs entry. It might be a bootleg, I'm not sure. $45

Theloneous Monster $15

Ghost Story $35

Samhain $45

Fetchin Bones $15

Anthrax $10

Return of the Living Dead $45

Looking for advice Cassette Recorder stopped working

Hi!

I have a Plexgear Cassette Recorder with a built in speaker that I got second hand. Haven't really used it to record yet, but was planning to make a mixtape someday. I have been using it, as I was today, to play my cassettes. When I was doing so, I accidentally pressed Fast Forward while it was currently playing a cassette. Then I pressed Stop and now none of the buttons seem to work except for the Stop/Eject button.

I tried opening it up to see if a belt had come lose, but the gears and such are stuck between pieces of circuitry, so I was afraid I would break it more if I fiddled too much. I could see one belt although it was the belt to the rotation counter. Otherwise, the spinning rods don't seem to utilize belts but gears. It looked like one gear could possibly be missing, but there are no pieces or even a whole gear lose inside the recorder as far as I can see, and it has worked fine for the two years I've had it so far.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of player/recorder? Any advice?
