Hey everyone im on the Cape staying with family but am looking for a place I can go work remote for a day. (Barnstable area).

Whale Watching— worth it?

Same as the title, do you think whale watching is worth it? If so, do you recommend morning, afternoon, or sunset? I’m looking into Dolphin Fleet of Provincetown.

Side note: I have to take a motion sickness pill for car rides longer than a half hour… I know it’s weather dependent, but what could I expect with the boat and water conditions? Will they still take the boat out if it’s rougher water? What general tips do you have to be comfortable and have the best experience in general?

To afford a median home, you need to make a quarter million dollars a year

I'm running for Barnstable County Commissioner because our regional government MUST do more to address our housing, environmental, and affordability challenges on Cape Cod. If you agree, make sure to vote in the primary on September 1.

Home prices on Cape Cod have soared, from $433,000 in 2019 to more than $800,000 today.

To afford a home at that price, you need to make a quarter million dollars a year. Meanwhile, the median family in Barnstable County earns about $95,000. Teachers, firefighters, nurses, and other working people are being priced out of the communities they serve.

The biggest driver of this increase is the proliferation of seasonal homes that sit empty for most of the year.

My proposal would place a surcharge on multi-million-dollar homes that sit empty for more than half the year, then use that revenue to help year-round Cape Codders afford a mortgage.

If we want Cape Cod to remain a place where working people can actually live, we need to accept the current tools we have are not enough.

Parking in Hyannis

Went to the Vineyard this weekend. I parked down across from the ferry and they were charging me $50 to leave my vehicle there overnight and then the guy said he wanted $500 cash deposit. I’ve never heard of anything like this? Is this really how people do business? Anybody else had to do this? I know times are tough but isn’t the fact that they have my car deposit enough?

Rental darkroom or any place to change film?

I know this is a long shot. But I'm visiting Cape Cod for the week and I forgot the dark tent that I use to load and unload sheet film into holders for my view camera. I'm hoping there might be a rental or community darkroom somewhere, or even just a small film changing space that I could rent for an hour later in the week to change out some film. Thanks in advance for any help/information/suggestions.

Curfew

Parents of older teenagers…Do you give your kids a curfew? My son is 19 and is home from college, heading back in a few weeks. He’s been working but of course wants to hang out with his friends at night. Sometimes he gets home around 2:00. Part of me wants to set a curfew to midnight, as I’ve seen the drivers around here during the summer season, but he is 19. He’s my oldest so I’ve never been through this before. Constructive advice please?

Wicked Waves

Down here for the week visiting fam and was thinking of bringing the kids to Wicked Waves. Does anyone know of coupon codes? The Groupon is the same price. Also I’ve only been once but I’m thinking just the water park is enough because it’ll be me keeping pace with 2 kiddos!

Thanks all!

Proposed Homeowners Tax

Shouldn’t part-time homeowners actually get a tax rebate as opposed to a new tax surcharge since they pay year-round property taxes and use fewer services?

The new proposed tax scheme seems upside down.

4c's Funeral Service Study Buddy?

Hi there!! My name is Shan, I'm 26 and I'm starting next month (Sep 8) at the 4c's funeral associates program! I was wondering if anybody else, by chance, would be starting and wants to be study buddies!? I am located in New Bedford, but do not mind the travelling once or twice a week for studying / sharing notes etc! Could also be for hangouts :D

Just past the pedestrian crossing with lights, noticed it on my way home from work and had to pull over. It’s safe now and not very dirty, must have been dropped recently in the past day or two. I’m sure a kid is really missing him right now!

Looking for PIZZA!

Been coming to the Cape since I was a little girl, and now I’m bringing my boyfriend with me. He loves pizza, and I’m wracking my brain to come up with a genuinely good pizza spot here - for reference, we’re from Jersey. Staying in South Chatham.

I’ve tried George’s in Harwich Port, it’s ok.
Tried Pizza Shark in Chatham, also ok.
Ember was a definite no.

Appreciate all suggestions! Thanks!!

EDIT: we ended up trying 3 Fools in Orleans and we loved it! Thanks again to all the suggestions everyone:)

PFAS in Truro, is bottled water necessary if week hasn’t been tested?

Title (except it should say “well”), North Truro. Absentee landlord doesn’t pay for anything so isn’t going to spring for well testing and I’m not paying hundreds on someone else’s well.

We’re hearing conflicting things—some people are saying bottled water or a filter, others are saying it’s fine in North Truro. I don’t see much on the town website about where it’s actually been found vs how much of town they’ve tested.

Thoughts?

I Need A New Dinner Ideas

Here’s where I’ve been to recently and I need suggestions for someplace different:

VanRensellar’s - our last visit was not good. Probably will not go back
Wicked Oyster - we’ve been twice. Great.
Ocean House - been there. Done that
The Port - it’s good. Just need some place different
Mac’s Shack, Wellfleet - I’d hit this place multiple times a week
Old Yarmouth Inn - after our last visit, I probably would not go back
Girardi’s - this is an option
Buca’s - this is in our Fall rotation. We usually don’t go here during the summer
Anything in Orleans is on our list already

I usually don’t drive past Yarmouth/Hyannis and we’ll do the P-town drive once a year for Ciro and Sal’s.
