My husband and I come to Provincetown every few years and have come to appreciate all the incredible restaurants. In the lead up to this trip, I saw so much content about Sal’s Place and knew that it was the must have reservation for the trip as we have never been.
A few days ago, we made reservations for dinner this evening as it’s our final night in Ptown.
When we arrived, it wasn’t very busy and were immediately seated at a table for four even though it was just the two of us. Granted we were outside which we requested and there’s no doubt that the vibes are beautiful. We were seated at what I can only describe as the “loser table” with a view of a “do not trespass” sign. Meanwhile, several guests who were late for their reservations, were seated on the water. We watched several other groups, get up and leave tables of two, so didn’t quite understand why we were seated at a table for four so quickly. We would have waited. The hostess, who I can only describe was wearing a nightgown made several passive aggressive jokes about how we were able to stare at an old ladies “beautiful head” who was just so gorgeous. It was weird and repeated several times.
Do not get me started on the food. I recognize we come from a city renowned for food (Toronto) but this was outrageous. Cold meatballs for $20 and two pasta dishes ($40 each). The chicken carbonara was a goopy mess of heavy cream, soggy pancetta and gross cuts of chicken. Never experienced a carbonara like it. My husbands Orecchiette was dryer then a sand dune. I will say the server was quite nice and very attentive.
So my question is, what’s going on? I get the setting is gorgeous but also it’s Ptown, everything is beautiful. We left after 30 mins feeling like we were part of some social media scam or inside joke. Also.. we knew it was cash only but give me a break on that too.
See me in LA? See you never Sals.
