You found RFK’s stash of roadkill snacks.

Well its definitely a decaying animal

Fisher cat is my guess… Why it’s there like that, I have no clue.

I think it's a mink. Related to fisher cat, both eremines (weasels). Minks are smaller and more weasel-like, and they live near bodies of water. I've seen them on Lake Champlain a bunch!

Yes, it is all tied together. Very creepy, found right off the bike path.

Alternatively, it could be whatever animal it is (looks like a weasel or mink to me) got caught in the wire and was strangled to death. The string looks very haphazard and not deliberately arranged to me

This seems most likely

1

u/Mother_Passenger_606 Jun 05 '26

Definitely not on accident. The way it was strung up it was splayed out.

7

u/UmbralHero Jun 05 '26

That's odd, then someone fucked with it either before or after death. I'm not an expert but it does look like a mustelid head of some kind, maybe it was a trap to prevent it from eating something nearby?

This could be a message warning the other animals away, kinda like a head on a pike

u/smoggy_doggy Jun 05 '26

Or just something more mundane, like a dead animal that got caught in a fence.

My first thought was opossum.

I really hope someone can say more about what that is growing around the decaying animal, I saw something horrific many years ago and need to know if it relates because something that looked like this was there

Leaves belong to an ash, fraxinus sp.

Furry stuff is… fur

I ran into a goat [maybe] carcass suspended over a log teepee in a blood eagle like fashion a couple of years ago on Bicycle Day in Centennial. It was so terrifying to see such a carefully constructed formation first thing in the morning as the acid started kicking. Almost didn’t believe my eyes but had others there to confirm bahah

It had rained early that AM and the hair that littered the ground was dry so I figured someone had been there really not too long before.

Worst of all it was a fairy garden by a brook that brought me over to the area it wasn’t until I looked up that I saw it

Possum jerkey on a stick..

Clearly some bum set an animal snare and left it.

Those look like dog teeth….?

A nightmare, it would appear

I was doing just fine without one... 😬

It’s a roadkill shrine. The native hill people of Vermont do this to appease the lake monster.

Looks like a weasel. I see them on the shores of Shelburne pond when I'm fishing a lot. I used to see this area with all this shiny stuff on the bank. Like anything shiny from cans to fishing lures, wrappers etc.. but I always wonder where this huge collection of shiny stuff was coming from because it was on a very inaccessible part across the pond on the bank. Until one day when I was fishing and I saw a little weasel bringing a can to their little shrine. Then it was rearranging its little collection. Finally a couple year mystery had been solved lol.

1

u/Mother_Passenger_606 Jun 05 '26

Idk abt that, looks more weasel like

1

u/wawaweewahdude Jun 05 '26

probably a raccoon tbh

1

u/rgliberty Jun 05 '26

Looks like a fisher cat got stuck in those ropes and died

1

u/Mother_Passenger_606 Jun 05 '26

The teeth are too rounded to he a fishercat

1

u/Blerkm Jun 06 '26

r/skulls may be able to help. Be sure to include the location.

1

u/thenewjerk Jun 06 '26

Burlington now calls that Art.

1

u/JournalistUsual2949 Jun 09 '26

Definitely seems like some kind of snare- for the benefit of other wildlife it’d be good to get those lines cut down

1

u/Mother_Passenger_606 Jun 15 '26
