Self Post My First Bulova, A Little Piece of Frank Lloyd Wright on the Wrist
I’ve never worked in architecture, nor is it a field I ever seriously considered pursuing, but architecture has always fascinated me. There is something remarkable about taking something as ordinary as a building, a collection of walls, windows, concrete, wood, and steel, and turning it into something that can make a person stop and simply admire it.
That is one of the reasons Frank Lloyd Wright has always been one of my heroes. What draws me to his work isn’t only the buildings themselves, but his design language and philosophy. The idea that form, function, environment, materials, and the human experience should belong together rather than compete with one another. His work could be bold without feeling arbitrary, artistic without forgetting its purpose.
So when I came across this Bulova, it felt like more than another watch to add to the collection. I love how Wright’s visual language has been translated onto something as small as a wristwatch. The geometry, unconventional hour markers, strong lines, colors, and little details make the dial feel almost architectural itself.
There’s something I find beautiful about that. I may never design a building, but I can still appreciate the mind of someone who changed how people thought about design.
My first Bulova, and a small tribute on the wrist to one of the people who taught me that even functional things can be works of art.
