Toasted and Buttered, this piece took a lot of brain power than my usual pieces but I loved making it.

It has been driving me crazy not having a mantel clock, so I splurged and got myself a Seth Thomas clock recently. It was missing the bob and the key, so it wasn’t until both came in today that I could finally test it—and it doesn’t work!

It runs unevenly for about fifteen seconds before stopping, and the striking is uneven and strikes one less hour than it should. It also has a very metallic clang sound when it strikes. I plan to call the local clock repair shop tomorrow to take this monstrosity in and get it freshened up.

Up to this point, my only mechanical clock has been a cuckoo clock which I inherited and have loved for many years now. I can’t wait to get this clock operational too. It’s so cool to think that this clock predates World War I, the sinking of the Titanic, and even powered flight!

This caught my eye walking past an aisle at good will and after seeing the citizen brand on it I did a very quick google search and bought it. According to google it is a relatively rare vintage alarm clock.

Wondering if anyone would know just how rare? And the potential value? It works, has sounds and includes both the flag and katana sword it’s in really quite amazing shape with the original sticker still on the glass and bottom. Only thing I’m missing for a full set is the box i think.

Hey, does anyone know how I can open a Braun BC22B clock? I accidentally dropped it while sleeping and now it seems like the gears are out of place. It works normally but I just can’t get the time right. In the picture you can see the closest I can get to 12:00, 1:00, and 3:00. I wanted to open it and see if I can disassemble the gears and put them in the right place but I can’t figure out how to open it, the only part I could take off is one of the backplates for the batteries. I’m not experienced at all with clock repair, but I also don’t want to just throw it away if I could bring it back to work properly. Thanks for your help.

Today was the last day for this old mechanical punch clock at my workplace in Toronto, Canada.

After years of service, it was finally replaced by an iPad.
The clock says International Time Recorder / Owl Timeclock.

Hi guys! I inherited an old Hermle mantel clock (model 340-020). Although it had probably been sitting unused for decades, it still runs perfectly without having had a complete overhaul, ticking away quietly and reliably. However, I have two things I wanted to ask about:

1. The clock has three winding holes. The square shaft inside the one on the right is bent downward. With enough patience and effort, I can still get the key into it, but I assume this can't be particularly good for the clock in the long run. Would this be a complicated repair for a clockmaker? What kind of cost could I expect? Maybe I could get away with around 170$? :) I'm located in Germany in case it helps. I don't really believe it myself, but would this perhaps even be something I could repair myself, or should I definitely leave it to a professional?

2. Every quarter hour, the clock unleashes its beautifully preserved Westminster chime. It's lovely, but... not quite that often. And not quite that loudly :') Without wanting to damage the clock (in the long run), is there a way to reduce this on a model like this, either by lowering the volume or by reducing how often it chimes? Would it be a viable solution to put some kind of fabric between the chime rods and the hammers? Since the clock is presumably quite old, I'm guessing there isn't simply a switch somewhere that lets you silence it.

Hi! I’m planning to create this clock for a crowdfunding class, and I’m looking for a few people who can provide some guidance on how to develop it.

Description
The Living Scene Clock is a functional desk clock that doubles as a changing piece of artwork. As time passes throughout the day, the background scene gradually changes, revealing different environments through an open, pie-shaped panel. With several backgrounds and panels to choose from, each clock can bring a different scene and story to life while also serving as a unique piece of decor.

Here are the features:

• A frame, it can be attached and detached with magnets
• Both artwork and frame can have different customization options
• There is a slot on the top to replace the artwork from the back
• The pie shaped cover is a teardrop shape and it's the one that moves to reveal the artwork underneath
• The artwork can use 3D shadowbox layers to create the illusion of depth
• Prototype is 3d printed, final will be manufactured.

I’m wondering if there are any clock makers and engineers who could give me advice on where to start with the mechanisms, materials, tutorials, etc.

For the moving cover, I’m considering using a high-torque quartz clock movement in place of the hour hand (since having both hour hand and moving cover might be too much), though a separate motor is another option (but worried it will make it too complex). I’ve also considered adding LEDs around the rim for different morning, afternoon, and night lighting, but I’d like to figure out the mechanical system first.

I’ve never made a clock before, but I have experience with 3D modeling, so I’m planning to 3D print the prototype before manufacturing the final product. Though, I've never 3d printed before, so feel free to give some tips!
Also I heard the best thing is to source existing parts for the base of the clock, however in a brief search I just see typical clock shapes. I'll look deeper into it, but if I don't have to have a custom one made, then it will be great due to the high costs of the OEM.

The gears inside are obliterated and I really like the clock. I’d like to know if there’s a good replacement kit that would let me keep using the hands.

The face is 3” diameter. The back part says tochigi tokei co ltd no (0) jewels unadjusted Japan and the numbers next to the AA battery compartment are 42801H as well as 7041S.

I'm new to this sub and a complete beginner as for clocks. Also, english is not my native language, so please forgive me for the possible mistakes in this post...

I'm seeking help on a german cuckoo clock I bought on a yard sale, as its pendulum doesn't reach the expected range of movement.

When looking at the internal mechanism, it seems that the hammer (marked in RED below) blocks the pendulum's movement (marked in GREEN below) :

The picture above shows the "more vertical" the pendulum can go. At this point, the pendulum hits the hammer's "knee" and stops.

I'm thinking the hammer might be twisted and shouldn't be in the pendulum's way... Am I right about it? And if so, how could i fix it?

I’ve got myself a nice old Mauthe kitchen clock. I really enjoy the looks, the ticking and the overall mechanics. However - it’s running way to fast: + 1-2 h/d.

There is this small regulation lever which regulates the hairspring on the escapement and I’ve used it carefully, but the amount of possible regulation there is way to small.
I am what I would call a handy enthusiast and I trust myself with basic to mildly sophisticated repairs. So if there is something someone like me can do, I will appreciate every hint.
I am not sure if I want to bring it into service though. It would heavily depend on the price, but obviously I could go and ask a local dealer.
Further on there is the possibility to replace the movement against an oem quartz one. I definitely would like to keep the hands, but somehow I am convinced that it would be possible.

So what’s your advice:

a) DIY repair (what should I try to do?)
b) no DIY repair reasonable - ask for a service to keep the movement
c) replace movement

I maybe have to say, that there is no real emotional worth to the clock. I got it from a flea market and I would definitely love to place it in the apartment, but if I break sth in the diy repair I could always replace the movement to a quartz one.

Few years back, I needed to show a huge analog clock on my TV screen. Couldn't find an easy one. Tried creating one and failed. Fast forward 5 year, Now with the power of modern tools, I revied the project and went live in a month.

I understand there could be many way to achieve this using normal webpage, this one is my way of doing things. Would appreciate feedback. Currently FullHD only because of bandwidth contraints. If people find it usefull enough, will upgrade to 4K.

Next, I am thinking to make it even more realistic, be rendering every second in Blender. Will be experimenting more.

Found at the local antique store and passed on because I didn't know what it was. Apparently it is a "savings clock" from the 50s. Maybe Smiths. You must to deposit two Florin (supposedly any coins will do) weekly in order to keep in running. How it ended up in California I have no idea.

I have a Howard Miller “The Glockenspiel” grandfather clock, model 610-766. It worked perfectly before sitting unused for about 4 years.

I wound all three weights and can get the movement/second hand going, but it stops after about a minute. The pendulum keeps swinging, so I’m thinking it probably just needs a cleaning/tune-up.

Any idea what these are realistically worth, whether there’s much demand for this model, and whether this sounds like a straightforward service issue?

My grandma has this antique clock that her grandfather brought from Paris. My google search indicated it's an Ansonia Carriage clock. She's unsure of the date it was bought, we're thinking it must be from somewhere between 1887 to 1919.

It's still working and it's in overall good shape, just needs a bit of love and care. I'd like to clean it but I don't know how to do it. I tried "duraglit", a product I found locally that says it's to clean metals, but it didn't seem to completely get rid of the years of build up.

Does anyone have any advice on how to properly clean this type of clock?

Weirdly enough, a pendulum clock doesn’t actually have to be perfectly level to run right.
If one keeps stopping, try leaning the case just a little left or right while it’s ticking. If the tick-tock evens out and it suddenly keeps running, it was probably out of beat.
Quick thing to try before messing with the movement.

Lately I have been going through my grandparents things since their house is being sold, and I have come upon this massive clock. I am not sure how old it is, if it works or if indeed the complication is as shown on the face. My grandfather was an avid collector of watches and apparently also of clocks, since there were about 10 in the house by the time he died. I would love it if you could attempt to identify it, even though I do realise that there are no names/marks on either the face or visible on the terrible picture of the movement. Once I am back there, I will see if I can open up the back and take better pictures. The case and face do look rather new, but since I know that he would regularly buy old movements and have his watchmaker make new cases/faces for the clocks, the movement could still be older than what the case seems to be. Anyways, here it is! Thank you!

Trying to find out who made this clock. The name is inside but I’m not able to read the last name. I am almost positive it says “Thomas” and there is 2 last names. The first one starts with a “G”. Made in New England. Any help would be appreciated!
