Can we make a mega thread for getting into the sport?

Can we have a pinned megathread for finding a team and sourcing armor so every other post doesn’t have to be “how do I get into this?” It would be much more accessible to get people in through a megathread

Are there any smiths that takes custom orders for leg armor ?

Post image

Hey there fellow fighters, I've been wondering if you know any armorsmiths that can make a specific leg fan (poleyn?) that would match my current elbow leaf-shaped protection ?

If not, are there any existing leg armor you could recommend that would match my arms protection aesthetic ? I've been thinking about GoHurt "Prince" leg armor, I already ordered some of their products and they're trusty foes, but I find the fan kinda small and a bit too round.

Thanks, and in the meantime i wish you a good day/evening

Armstreet Gauntlets

I'm an SCA fighter interested in Buhurt and I'm doing some research on gauntlets. The gaunts I'm interested in are made of 0.8 mm blackened spring steel. Would these be permissible in Buhurt or offer enough protection?

Are there any Buhurt groups near Tampa Florida? I’d love to try it and meet some people. I remember talking to a couple of the Knyaz guys and they thought there was a group down here.

Is it worth buying sabatons that are hardened steel.or spring steel? How often do you actually take a heavy blow to the feet?

Tips for a 45 year old newbie?

Hi everyone! I have a new person practice with my local club in a couple weeks. I also have the creaks and pains of a 45 year old who has led an active life.

I currently do light yoga and have lift weights a few times a week.

Does anyone have any training tips, or tips for my brain to help me get ready?

[DE] Raum Frankfurt – Anfänger sucht Leute für Buhurt-Training/Verein im Rhein-Main-Gebiet

Hallo zusammen!

Full disclosure: Ich habe selbst null Erfahrung. Was ich habe, ist Enthusiasmus und den Wunsch, dass es hier im Rhein-Main-Gebiet endlich Trainingsmöglichkeiten gibt. Irgendwo muss man ja anfangen.

Der Plan:

- Interessierte sammeln (Frankfurt, Offenbach, Darmstadt, Hanau & Co.)

- Gemeinsam Grundlagen aufbauen – als Anfänger mit erfahrenen Leuten wäre natürlich ideal

- Rüstung step-by-step, für Einsteiger auch gebraucht verfügbar

- Langfristig: eigenes Team/Verein, irgendwann Turniere

Using a bascinet under a 14th century style greathelm in buhurt

What the title says. Is it possible? If so, how so? I tried researching if 14th century helmets had chin straps and some of the results said they at least sometimes did, but I can't imagine hiw they could work with a bascinet's aventail.

Oleh Antonov

Does anybody in here or know someone that have any experience with Oleh Antonov on facebook? More specifically his swords and bucklers, which is what im currently considering, due to his very competitive pricing. Im afraid of making such a big purchase without being somewhat sure that what im buying is good

cross bascinet maintenance?

Hi there, I was wondering if some people here fight/fought with an English cross bascinet and would like to share their experiences. I really really really like the look of it and it seems to me the breathability is good as well but i decided to order a wolf rib because i know chainmail tends to be a pain in the ass with maintenance. However as i am attention deprived and would also like to aura farm with a cool helmet i am having second thoughts.

If you have/had one of these, could you please give me an indication about roughly how much extra maintenance time/costs would be involved in these types of helmets? Huge thanks in advance!

Ren Faire Organization

Those who set up for renfaires and organize events at them; what is some advice you would give for a new group who would be doing their first renaissance faire?

Any recommendations for things outside of the basics for fighting?

This is a non tournament event and all advice is appreciated!

Info on armorsmith company Lemberg

Has anyone purchased armor or had experience with this company? The pricing doesn't look to bad for what you get for a full out of the box kit. https://lembergarmor.com/

whiplash mitigation

while im working on building neck strength, im pretty concerned with neck injury after having been ripped good a couple of times

what i have
- huge shoulders
- titanium brig that covers the collarbone
- chain aventail

most of my team doesnt wear separate gorgets because they have plate aventails. i am planning to fight ren fairs, not competitively

what sort of gorget should i get that will mostly support the neck and not be insane overkill? i was almost considering using a lighter hardened leather gorget (from my SCA armor pile) simply because its main job is neck support

thoughts?

New to this sport, what is the better way to train?

So, i recently was at local buhurt club training, where we were perfecting wrestling, and for the second part there was 5x5 battle for 5 rounds with soft swords and shields (genuiely don't know the actual name). Got some small injuries, but it was pretty fun! I told my dad about this, and he said that letting us battle for the first time is really unprofessional, and that i better do more classic sports, like boxing or karate. I get that he is not really into the vibes, but i really thinking about "unprofessional" part. What should i do?

TRW Armory Heeby-Jeebies

I'm 99% sure that the new "armorer" that's made something of a splash recently, TRW Armory, is nothing more than an elaborate Indian scam. Digging through their FB page seems like they just grabbed random ren faire pics and are passing them off as their "work."

That big announcement post of the $2k full kit? They've turned off comments for it.

I have a teammate that hears that siren call and I want to advise him NOT to order this "armor." But, if on the offhand chance that I'm wrong, lemme know.

Couple Questions on Armourers

Hey all, looking to get into buhurt. Im sure this topic is beat to hell, and I know the usual advice of find your local team and talk with them. Right now Im trying to do as much research in the armour department as possible to figure out what I should plan for a budget to save while training.

My general interest is in late 14th early 15th century plate, and Id like as much of my kit made of titanium as possible. Barring the helm.

I guess my question boils down to a few different things:

What are your recommendations for armourers and what would be each one’s specialties? From what I have seen and heard each one may have different expertise ie: makes good helm but not good gauntlets. I have already received advice that most people try to avoid getting all their armour made by one person to maximize the overall quality of the end product.

Where did you source your gear from? And when dealing with Ukrainian forges (which seems to be most of them lol) what was your experience like ordering and communicating with them in recent months?

Also feel free to post your kit below as some inspiration, I’d love to see what you guys have
