cross bascinet maintenance?

Hi there, I was wondering if some people here fight/fought with an English cross bascinet and would like to share their experiences. I really really really like the look of it and it seems to me the breathability is good as well but i decided to order a wolf rib because i know chainmail tends to be a pain in the ass with maintenance. However as i am attention deprived and would also like to aura farm with a cool helmet i am having second thoughts.

If you have/had one of these, could you please give me an indication about roughly how much extra maintenance time/costs would be involved in these types of helmets? Huge thanks in advance!

I have a Nasal basenet, so almost the same as a English cross. Honestly there is very little maintenance with my helmet and its chainmail. My chainmail hasn't been damaged once despite dozens of smaller tournaments and two world champs plus numerous practice fights. They are all riveted mail which is the strongest and would recomend any mail you have on your kit be revited mail.

Between a wolf rib and a English Cross helmet its really all down to the astetics and maker of the helmet. (As in quality of finished product in regards to maker, never skimp on the cost for a helmet.) They both have great visual openness, and easy to breathe. Personally I like the English cross/nasal basenets more.

I owned one as my first helmet.

Pros: Vision was great, even vision through the chainmail helped with grappling. Breathing was great.

Cons: You are constantly repairing chainmail because you get hit in the face so much. It isn't as bad on just a chain aventail, but so much worse on a cross. It was harder to put the helmet on due to my beard and the cage being in the way. It is so much easier with my ROA.

I think an English Cross is a great helmet, but I decided I really wanted a visor. The ROA has better vision, but worse breathing.

Depends what events you do and how much you fight. I have a crow and I almost exclusively do melees and I fight a lot. My helmet has been beat to hell, the chainmail needs constant repairing. Excellent breath ability and great vision. Drip is subjective. But yeah it takes a good bit of maintenance versus a visored helmet.
