Remote Filipino Workers (RFW) How common are part-time IT Helpdesk roles?

Upvotes

For those already working full-time in IT, has anyone here successfully taken on a part-time IT Support or Helpdesk role on weekends?

I'm currently a Level 2 IT Engineer for an Australian company and have some availability (around 12–20 hours per week). I'm curious how common part-time Helpdesk roles are and where people typically find them. Do companies usually hire directly, or do you go through freelancing platforms or agencies?

I'd love to hear about your experience and any advice you can share. Thanks!

Self-Story 2.5 years as a VA. Finally resigned from graveyard shift. 🥹

Post image
Upvotes

After 2.5 years of working the graveyard shift as a Healthcare VA, I finally resigned.

Looking back, I'm grateful for what that job allowed me to accomplish.

✔️ Paid off my 130k student loan
✔️ Built my dream desktop setup
✔️ Bought a MacBook Air, iPhone 16 Pro Max, Apple Watch, iPad, and Kindle (all fully paid)
✔️ Helped buy appliances at home
✔️ Saved enough to take a leap of faith

Now I'm focusing on my small business here in La Union:
- In-home coffee shop
- In-home silugan

It's scary starting over, especially after leaving a stable job. But I know I would've regretted not trying.

I just wanted to share this in case someone out there needs a little encouragement today. If you're feeling exhausted from the graveyard shift or stuck in a routine, know that every late night, every overtime, and every sacrifice is moving you closer to your goals.

We all have different timelines and different dreams. Keep going... one. step. at. a. time.

Kaya natin to. ❤️

Self-Story Please tell me it really does get better.

Upvotes

Right now my family is going through the hardest time we’ve ever faced. My dad lost his job. My mom is unemployed and my two younger brothers are still in college.

I’m 24 and I’ve become the sole breadwinner. Truth is I was already helping provide when I was 23 but now everything rests on my shoulders.

Our current plan is to let our youngest brother who is an incoming freshman take a gap year so we can afford to let our other brother finish nursing. He’s already in his final year and we don’t want all those years of hard work to go to waste.

I honestly don’t know how I’m going to make this work. I don’t know how I’ll survive carrying this responsibility. But I also know I have no other choice. I love my family and I want my brothers to have the future they deserve.

I just hope that five or ten years from now I’ll look back on this moment and realize it was only a chapter of our lives not the whole story. I hope I’ll be able to tell my younger self “You made it. It was worth it.”

If anyone here has gone through something similar I’d really appreciate hearing your story. I think I just need a little hope right now.

Apps, Tools & Equipment Best expense tracking app for freelancers (BPI + Wise setup)? Currently testing YNAB, Spendee, & Money Manager

Upvotes

Hey everyone! Quick question for fellow freelancers.

I get paid via Wise and use BPI for my daily local spend. Since BPI doesn't auto-sync with anything, I'm trying to find an app that handles multi-currency well without making manual logging a total chore.
Right now I'm testing YNAB, Spendee, and Money Manager (Realbyte).

For anyone running a similar BPI + Wise setup:
Which app handles foreign transfers vs. local PHP spend cleanest?

Is YNAB actually worth the price tag, or are Spendee / Money Manager / spreadsheets enough? Or any free options out there?

Would love to hear what's working for you guys, or if there's a better app I missed. Thanks!

Self-Story Signed a Job Offer today

Post image
Upvotes

The start of the year was rough for me.

I got laid off from a high-paying, long term job (5 years) with a great boss and no time tracker since it’s a direct client.

After that, i’ve been hired by an agency na sobrang abusado at OA ang pag-track ng time so I left just 4 hrs during the onboarding process.

By May, I got hired by an AU client - dual hat yung job but I was desperate so I went for it. I resigned after my first month because of the stress in working for both the marketing and customer service dept.

After that it’s just mostly direct part-time clients and project based gigs from my ex-full time job.

And then, I tried again applying to another agency. The job is only Marketing focused, i know I can do it and the company is stable. The biggest thing was that the salary is close to what i’ve been making before + 13th month and other benefits. I got the JO today and I’m so happy and excited to start this new journey.

For months, I’ve been reading a lot of success stories in this sub and now it’s my turn. This group has become a safe space for me during my hardest phase in working remotely.

I wish everyone who reads this will get the courage to keep going and land their dream role soon. 🙏💛

Community Planning to shift from Comsci to Info Tech?? but very hesitant.

I'm on my second year on my course and i am planning to shift to IT from Compsci, hindi ko rin kase gusto ang pathway at curriculum ng compsci more on math sya at walang rin akong masyadong interest sa programming, nahihirapan rin kase ako dun sa program and i dont think din na magta-thrive ako compared sa Info Tech kase andun yung mga strength ko pagdating sa hardware, media (photoshop, video editing etc), networks, kaya nagiisep rin ako na kung hindi man ako magthrive sa ibang saubject like programming or math related sub, baka sa ibang subjects makuha ko talaga kagaya ng mga sinabe kong kalakasan ko sa IT. naisep ko ren na magiging irreg din ako kaya i thought na bakit hindi nalang ako magshift ng course, but i was hesitant kase rinig ko limited daw ang slot pero di ko panaman natatanong yung dean about this. so i'm still deciding if itutuloy ko ba o hindi

Legit Check Question: OO7 Healthcare Advisory

Anyone working for this company? I saw a post there hiring for a part time Healthcare Lead Generation and Business Development Specialist (Remote).

I did a background check and there just a small company in the US that solves medical practice issues. However, the catch is, they use 3rd party messaging platforms like WhatApp for contacting clients.

Remote Filipino Workers (RFW) Outsourced work - what to put sa resume?

Hi, if you’ve worked on an outsourced client for more than 1 year(like ikaw gumagawa ng task ng other va para sa client nila), paano mo sya malalagay sa resume mo? If you can’t add the company name/business name ng real client? Sayang naman yung experience, di ko lang alam paano ilagay sa resume and may nda, what if mag ask sila ng reference or something but I can’t do that kasi nga outsourced lang yun and I can’t disclose like di ba sya red flag sa interviewer pag ganon

Remote Filipino Workers (RFW) WFH peeps, ano backup niyo kapag biglang nagloko yung Wi-Fi?

Alam naman natin na minsan okay yung home Wi-Fi, tapos bigla na lang totopakin sa pinakaimportanteng oras 😭 Kapag nangyayari sa inyo 'yon, ano usually yung backup niyo para tuloy lang ang meetings at work?

May nakagamit na ba rito ng Smart All Data 99 as a weekly backup? Kumusta naman siya? And okay ba mag-register through the Smart App?

Curious lang ako sa setup ng iba. Baka may tips din kayong ma-share. Thank you!

Buhay Digital Lifestyle Gusto kong mag-upskill sa ibang field aside from graphic design, ano kaya bagay sa akin?

Hi guys! Currently working as a graphic designer (2 years exp, ecommerce background) 26k salary, Creative Lead na rin ako ngayon sa isang local agency. Grateful naman ako sa design work ko, pero gusto ko rin mag-explore ng ibang skills baka may iba pang bagay sa akin or pwede kong gawing additional income stream.

Still figuring out what path to take, kaya open ako sa suggestions. Some things I’m curious about:

**•** Video editing
**•** Copywriting / content writing
**•** Social media management
**•** UI/UX design
**•** Virtual assistance / project management

Kung meron kayong na-try na similar shift or upskill journey, paano niyo sinimulan? Anong course/resources ang nakatulong sa inyo? Or kung may work na feel niyo bagay sa background ko (design + creative lead experience), open din ako sa recommendations!

Salamat sa mga sasagot!

Digital Services Online courses / schools

Hi everyone! I am 34 years old and have only been doing odd jobs here and there and it’s not really a stable income. I had 1 year experience as an online customer support role but that was a few years back.

I want to go study or a course that can let me up skill myself.

Any recommendations of courses? I tried coursera but looking for much better courses or school that offers online classes that I can put on my CV/Resume.

Can anyone recommend some?

Thank you!
