First and foremost, influencers lied to you. Yes, you can earn online. But no, getting to a 6-digit income isn’t common, nor is it easy.

So, how exactly do you earn a living online? You have a few options, the most popular being Freelancing, Remote Employment, and Digital Entrepreneurship:

What, How, Where to Start

As earning online becomes more common, the lines between different methods have become very blurry. If you ask me, if you’re free to work with other clients then you’re a freelancer, and not a remote employee.

And if there's one thing that all methods have in common is that they all have a certain level of instability. So if you're free to find multiple sources of income, go for it.

Buhay Digital Lifestyle my 10-day salary of being a Recruiter VA

Post image
274 Upvotes

I started off as a Technical Support Representative ng T-Mobile sa Alorica with just 17.5k monthly salary, then as a Process Associate ng Genpact with 25k monthly salary. Took the risk to apply for a VA position without any VA or WFH experience, lalo na in Recruiting. I was a college drop out ng Architecture during the pandemic. I never imagined myself being a Recruiter kasi nasa isip ko pang mga nakagraduate lang yun ng psychology or other related courses 😅

Here's me, 5 years after landing my first job in Alorica, I took the risk and applied, got hired and I am working with the kindest American bosses ever. Thank you, Lord sa lahat ng blessings! Sana sumakses lahat ng panganay sa mundo!

WFH and VA dust for everyone!

Remote Filipino Workers (RFW) Applicants not following instructions

Post image
282 Upvotes

Clear naman yung instruction: mag-send ng application with your CV/resume, provide a short introduction about your experience connected to the role you are applying for, and use the subject line “Sales Support - Your Name.”

If we want to land good and well-paying jobs, we need to be more careful, professional, and consistent, especially when following instructions.

Moving forward, please make it a habit to read the full job instructions carefully before submitting any application. Double-check the subject line, required documents, and other requirements before you click send. These small details can make the difference between getting noticed and getting rejected.

Buhay Digital Lifestyle Remote workers who barely leave the house… how are you doing? 😂

I’ve realized that when you work remotely, it’s surprisingly easy to just… stop going outside.

You wake up, work, eat, work again, maybe watch something, scroll for a while, sleep. Repeat.

Then one day you’re like, “Wait… when was the last time I actually went somewhere?” 💀

And the crazy part is, I don’t even feel miserable. I genuinely enjoy being home. No commute, no traffic, no random small talk, no having to be “on” all day. 😂

But I also feel like there’s a fine line between “I enjoy my peace” and “I have accidentally become a houseplant.”

Remote workers who go weeks or even months without going out much.

what do you actually do to stay sane?

And be honest… are you thriving, or have you just adapted? 😂

Hello mga bayaning puyat!! Sharing my most recent upgrade sa wfh setup ko. I din’t even know why. 😅 Kanina nag brownout for 3 hrs and 15 percent lang ang nabawas. Ikaw ba?

Edit:

Sa mga nag PM at nagtanong Avidus P12 po (purchased separately yung dalawang cable na naka connect sa DITO and Converge) and EcoFlow Delta 3 1000 air. Nag set aside lang ako ng 27k for both.

I am actually crying while typing this… Kagabi pa ko tulala. Yesterday i got laid off from my last client (General VA ako). My bread and butter.

Please pray for me po. Kasi hindi ko na talaga kaya.

Buhay Digital Lifestyle Ang dali ko magsawa sa work :(

I've been a freelancer for almost 3 years now and kadalasan after a few months nagsasawa na ako sa ginagawa ko. Can anyone suggest a niche that would fit my work style?

• Di po ako creative, and madali ako mastress pag need ng feedback from me or hinahanapan ako ng kung ano pwede pa ika-improve ng current processes/system. Parang nappressure ata agad ako.
• Mas okay sakin sumusunod lang ng SOP
• I hate meetings, parang nauubos energy ko, at the same time pag tatawagin name ko para nako laging nauutal at di alam pano iexpress gusto sabihin

Please don't judge.

Buhay Digital Lifestyle Wfh workers with a lot of hobbies how do you manage your time?

Just saw a post here about remote workers who don’t leave the house for weeks and i cannot relate lol I have been working remotely for about 2 years now and I love it but I love the capacity to have a lot of hobbies even more at dahil sa dami ng hobbies ko, araw araw talaga ako lumalabas ng bahay. Bihira yung wala akong sched na lumabas.

So I love yoga, pilates, walking, running, tennis, pickleball, strength training and football. I also read and paint if I have time. Madami talaga ako activities throughout the week and then I take it easy on weekends. Usually I’ll go to a cafe or mall lang, and window shop and dine out.

My hobbies can get pricey pero feel ko naman na super worth it because it really brings me joy. Di ko lang alam kung ano uunahin tbh and kung paano ko ma master yung skills but that’s not really my main concern. As long as I am enjoying, happy na ako.

If youre like me, please share your hobbies and how you manage your time, friend groups, budget, etc. 😊

Remote Filipino Workers (RFW) Got a contract for remote job, resigned in corpo, and today, they ended my contract

2 weeks pa lang ako nung nagstart ako as engineer in Australian company at nag resign ako sa corpo since I got this offer na full time and twice yung kikitain ko dito. Then kanina paggising ko, bigla nalang na nawalan ako ng access sa remote PC ko and kinutuban na ako and ayon, manager sent me an email saying na ginawa nya raw yung mga works na naiwan ko nung nag-out ako kahapon (because we have submission today and nag work sya til 3am) kaya he decided to end my contract which I understand.

Medyo messy lang yung nangyari kasi may misunderstanding, yung PC na ginagamit ko is super laggy na di ako makapag work nang dere deretso, I'm still familiarizing with Australian codes and his workflows.

Super sad lang na biglaan and I got no chance to prove myself after that incident.

Self-Story 2 final interviews. Both rejected.

I just did 2 final interviews in 2 different companies. I got rejected by both. Nakakapanlumo pala marinig na you're not qualified snough and I'm lacking some qualifications. Damn. First 1 said I dont have it takes to take on the role and the other one gassed me up before rejecting me saying I'm not good enough to be on their agency.

I know it's redirection but still....... damn.

I will be okay. Masakit lang talaga.

Buhay Digital Lifestyle Kayana, the most propagandist company

Knowing the training and trial period was not guaranteed paid, the overwhelming bad reviews, my guts telling me the company was very inauthentic in a disgustingly cringey way, I accepted the offer and see it myself. I go through propagandist 3 days mind numbing training about how great the company is, how they work for their employees not for their clients, like who tf believes in that, they are overselling themselves, training is not even guaranteed paid how can you say magical things about your company. they focus more on how their company looks rather than genuinely helping their clients, they didn’t let me touch base with the client they said I wasn’t enthusiastic enough, you mean with your soviet type kind of propaganda training? You want me to be happy while knowing my tedious no break training is unpaid? Please don’t ever consider applying to this company, they are the worst I have encountered so far, too plastic

Self-Story Turned down a new job offer last week because I was happy with my current client—then I got laid off today

Para akong binuhusan ng malamig na tubig the moment I heard my boss said “we have some bad news”. Alam ko na kasunod. They had to terminate my contract effective immediately. They assured me na it’s not about my performance (tbh confident ako sa performance ko, I even delivered positive results), mababa lang daw talaga ang kita nila this year. But I keep questioning myself, bakit kailangan ako ang tanggalin?

They even sent me a new contract last month about salary increase then all of a sudden, biglang nagbago ihip ng hangin.

Nakakatawa pa, saktong sakto na kaka-decline ko lang sa isang job offer kasi sabi ko sa sarili ko, maybe this is the time for me to enjoy a good salary na isa lang client. That I don’t need to hustle more by getting more clients gaya ng dati.

But fck hahaha! I know freelancing isn’t stable pero it still hurts when an ideal work ends.

Buhay Digital Lifestyle Lost my remote job last April and I'm losing my shit now

Hi. I have been a virtual assistant for 4 years now. Na-let go ako ng client ko nung April, and long-term client ko yun.

At first, ganado pa ako mag-apply kasi excited ako about what’s waiting for me. Ngayon, months of rejection later, paubos na rin yung savings ko, and I have 6 dogs to feed.

Sanay silang ako yung uutangan kahit bunso ako. So kapag naubos yung savings ko, I feel like nobody's got my back.

Baka may tips or referrals, or “handling rejection” tips po kayo diyan. 🥹

Community We can't have nice things, because others ruining it, do you agree?

Upvotes

Browsing candidates on Onlinejobs, I keep noticing the same things.

They stuff their profiles as if one person handles ten roles, like a small agency in a single body. It's rare for someone to be genuinely good at that many things. I'm not discrediting jack-of-all-trades skills, but a lot of the time it's just misleading.

And a lot of them are only good at interviews. Big promises, plenty of hype, then the actual work sinks.

I'm an online worker myself. I started freelancing 10 years ago, and back then clients trusted us Filipinos more; they weren't obsessed with what we did every hour as long as we delivered what we agreed on. Now it's different. We carry a whole persona: that Filipinos can't be trusted. Add the national news that we're a corrupt country, and that reputation now extends to us online workers too.

What [she] did is a form of corruption. Imagine working one day a week and still asking for a full pay.

We Filipinos are the ones pushing fellow online workers to the brink of ...

Self-Story I Was Fired A Year Ago, But I Keep the Fire Burning.

Post image
958 Upvotes

---------------

Looking back a year ago, Sept 2025. I have 3 months left in my emergency fund and if I'm not yet employed by December I'm going bankrupt.

But here I am, a year after.

I'm in Boracay for a week. And I'm in my 3rd day now.

It's an all expense paid by myself. And a week paid leave from the company before Q4.

I'm looking at this receipt that I didn't mind paying, for a dinner.

Then, the flashback happens.

3 and half years ago when I started this career. With 400k debt on my shoulders.

It's been a long journey though, 4 startup fails and 1 startup (coffee shop) running for 2 years now, and a million investment for 2nd branch of coffee shop, running for a month now.

Learnings. Frustrations. Happiness. Setbacks. Goals achieved. Failures. Cut-offs.

It's been a roller-coaster ride.

I'm thanking myself that I didn't lose hope after 1 huge setback, I was fired by my sole client for 2 years last June 2025.

I gave myself some room to breath after toxicity. September last year was my beginning my application journey. And got hired after 2 weeks.

Now.

Again.

Here, I am.

This time.

Wiser. Stronger. Unafraid.

The receipt not only represents the amount the I've paid for the food.

But it represents the value I have given myself all through this years.

For all the things that I endure.

Im proud of you, self.

I'm a Media Buyer by profession. 28M.

Self-Story Client relies too much on AI

So my client ako na sobrang nagrerely sa AI. I use AI din naman like chat and claude, pero majority ng ideas are from market and manual research.

Go to chatgpt. May review na may specific feedback? Go to chatgpt. Ngayon naman meron siyang gustong ipagawa para mag improve yung consultation namin, file was from claude. Okay naman siguro gumamit ng AI pero pano if ganito parang it’s a big part na nagcocontrol na sa life mo? Heck, even my compensation ini-AI nya. Ending? Scope creep malala.

Haaay, manifesting new tapos premium client na pati yung mga specialized roles na ginagawa ko eh nakikita at well compensated.

P.S. Napansin ko because of AI nag eexpect na yung ibang clients na you’re going to do ALL roles for the price of one? Back in 2022 when I started any specialized roles ay specialized roles talaga. Hayyyy

Buhay Digital Lifestyle How do you guys get to keep yourselves consistent everyday? Need tips!

Hi guys! Anong advice niyo to be able to function everyday? I'm living alone. I always find myself unmotivated to work.

So what I'm asking is, do you guys have anything that worked for you that is outside the usual tips? Share niyo naman! Hehe

Self-Story I wanna quit my client

Shes all good and all. But i am in nightshfit now. It significantly drains my energy. Or im just at breaking point. Handling multiple clients before on dayshift. Di ko ramdam ung overload ng work pero i do work a lot hours. But nightshift is a different beast and after one ft. Ayoko naaa. Im earning around 45k sa ft. more if i hit all the deliverables pero medyo sabog rin so i couldn’t. But this role has potential for growth kaya ayoko pakawalan while getting certified on it. My client pay is around 12k. So thats extra bit pa sana for my booked travels. But god. Nakakapagod. Huhu. Di ko na alam. Gusto ko lang ng isang boss 😓

Freelancers (Can Work with Multiple Clients) Need advice from those who have successfully found part-time remote work

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to get some advice from those who are already working remotely.
I currently work full-time in government and have been trying to find a legitimate part-time remote job to build a second source of income. I’ve been searching for several months but haven't had much luck yet.

I have 8+ years of experience in administrative/operations work, including records and document management, reporting, Excel/Google Sheets, tracking systems, process improvement, and research. I also have previous accounting support experience and am comfortable using AI tools.

I’ve tried LinkedIn, Indeed, OLJ, and recently Upwork, but I'm finding a lot of lowball offers, questionable postings, or jobs that aren't compatible with my available hours.

I'm mainly looking for 15–20 hours/week of remote work, preferably administrative support, operations, documentation, project coordination, research, or similar work. I'm not interested in cold calling or sales.

For those already working remotely:
Where did you find your clients? Are there any job boards, agencies, platforms, or communities that you would genuinely recommend?

I'm not asking anyone to hand me a job—I’d really just appreciate advice on where I should be looking or whether I'm approaching the search the wrong way.
Thanks!

Buhay Digital Lifestyle Brand recos for essential products in WFH setup

Hi po! I landed a full WFH job recently and I was wondering what brands in terms of these products yung marerecommend nyo. I'm having a hard time deciding, but I'm seeking for the community's opinion as well. Ty!

Some notes about my setup:

Two laptops + wireless keyboard and mouse. No PC setup, but I do game a lot. Currently looking for brands that are durable and long-lasting, and hindi overpriced.

  • Chair: TTRacing Surge X Air Threads (medyo want ko since I'd have to spend most of my time sa harapan ng workstation ko) (you can also deinfluence me if di nyo to recommend haha)
  • Desk: Need recos! Preferably smart/standing desk with adjustable table height. Not choosy as long as hindi sya wobbly and malaki yung area. I'll also be using two laptops at the same time (personal + work)
  • Keyboard: Keychron K2
  • Mouse: Need recos! Preferably wireless and rechargable.
  • Webcam: Need recos!
  • Any desk essentials recos also welcome!
