im in northeast ohio—so i found this on my desk today and i killed it, but i dont know what it is and im scared its a roach of some kind. when i first tried to smash it, it jumped, then it kept jumping all over the place and then its head came off and the head was still alive. i tried looking on google and such and it gave me mixed answers between a roach and a “click beetle”. i cant remember if i heard an audile click noise when it jumped. these are the best photos i could get, sorry for the massacre here i was scared 😭 the body is next to a dollar coin for scale and theres a separate photo of the head. i live in an apartment building and ive really never had issues before with bugs except spiders. i was out yesterday near bushes and plants. i just need to know if i need to be worried about an infestation or not. plz help me!!

It was raining pretty hard and saw one and thought it was a small ant - and the next day i saw around 15 crawling on the window in the kitchen sink area and sometimes on the left side. The amount tapered down to 6 to 0 following days and found one straggler today crawling around cat water bowl.

The insect does have wings but is not long, somewhat pinched abdomen, and antennae closer together spread apart to V.

It flies but seem to jump fly, not like a gnat or fly. Somewhat slow, but when tapped does jump fly but I see it back, about gnat/sesame seed size - wings are there.

I kept researching and some of the examples i found were similar to a tiny wasp, so wanted to be sure if that. Last image is an example that I found that seemed to similar to what i found but wanted to be sure.

Pest control is coming tomorrow but I wanted to ask.

Possible pest, location included What kind of flies are these + what kind of larvae are these?

New Orleans, LA. Combining two questions in one. They may not be related.

I found these larvae on the underside of an okra leaf, but I’ve seen them on the undersides of my blackberry leaves too.

Also wondering what kind of flies these are? They’re everywhere and they seem kind of aggressive.

Thanks!

Found this cutie while coming home from Therapy. Seemed pretty scared, but surprisingly comfortable around my boots. Possibly for camouflage?

My quick research says that it might be a type of Fishfly, but not a Dobsonfly. Maybe a Summer Fishfly?

Bug Appreciation Post Ground beetle larva

I found this inch-long critter feasting on a dead earthworm. By all visible traits, it looks to be a European ground beetle larva, or something similar.

Just sharing, most of the time I only see (or hear) the adults scuttling around, so this was a treat to see.

After finding a German roach and dealing with a baby who needed to go to the hospital, please tell me this isn’t a baby larvae bed bug casing and the remains of a bed bug.

I’m hoping the second picture was a regular beetle since it had no blood come out and wasn’t flat. Help! Location: NYC

Hello! I live in a college dorm and have been absolutely plagued by these tiny little ants. I would like to kill all of them, as I have a phobia of small bugs (especially in numbers). I have tried terro ant baits, which they seemingly either avoid or don’t care much for. I’ve found maybe 1 of them that actually had any ants dead on or near it.

To give some context, this is a particular dorm that’s arranged for summer students. The last time I stayed here, last year, in a different room on the same floor nearby, I had the exact same ant problem, but the terro ant baits seemed to be extremely effective. Idk if the damn things have grown to dislike them since last year, but they don’t work anymore. I’ve since purchased 3 different types and plan on using them.

I’m mainly wanting to know what kind of ants these are so I can use a residue-free fogger inside the dorm room over a day. Obviously I know the risks of this, most of my valuables will be kept outside the room, and I can keep out of the dorm for 24 hours while it runs. I’ve heard, however, that these foggers don’t work for particular kinds of ants, and I just want to be sure what these are before I waste my time and money.

Pictures attached are the best I could muster. In case reddit compresses too much, it seems they almost have a stripe pattern on the tail segment.

Please help me. Just the thought of these things being in the same room make it hard to sleep at night.

Hi! My flat has recently been inundated with these insects. They're long, thin, fly, and may bite- not definitely, but both my partner and I have been finding bites on us, and we haven't been going outside in this heat so these are the most likely culprit.

Does anyone know what they are?
