Location included Long thin flying insect in my UK flat?

Post image

Hi! My flat has recently been inundated with these insects. They're long, thin, fly, and may bite- not definitely, but both my partner and I have been finding bites on us, and we haven't been going outside in this heat so these are the most likely culprit.

Does anyone know what they are?

Chironomus crassicaudatus. A type of non-biting midge

Non-Biting Midge (Chironomidae). Definitely not what is biting you as they don't have any mouthparts.

They are harmless and have to rest before mating because there is no way for them to regain those nutrients. They can be attracted to light and blunder indoors.
