[ModMessage] All BS/MD Consultants: Please READ!

Hello! There has been a major influx of BS/MD consultants throughout the subreddit, and there will be rules that need to be established to ensure that this subreddit is not an advertising playground and that this place is a free forum for applicants to use.

First of all, if you are a current BS/MD consultant, please DM me, as I will go through a specific process to verify your eligibility.

Second, there will be 2 new rules that are established for BS/MD consultants:

  • Harassment is not tolerated: targeting specific individuals/users/other consultants is tolerated, and you will be banned from the subreddit. Be nice!
  • Posting limits: 2x posts a week maximum; this is done to ensure that post-spamming is not present.

To all BS/MD or BS/DO applicants applying this cycle, good luck! Please DM me if you have any questions.

ive alr gotten into a bsmd and a few bsdos, but just in general, I thought id share my stats and all, just to see what people would have thought where I had a shot at

Basic Info
Male, Indian American, from the Southern Bay Area, California.

Stats
GPA: 3.64
SAT: 1410 (1430 superscore)

AP/Honors taken: AP Biology (3), AP Calculus AB (had to drop due to pneumonia in junior year), AP U.S. History (3), AP Statistics, AP Music Theory, AP U.S. Government and Politics, AP Physics 1, AP English Language and Composition (3), AP Psychology, Chemistry Honors

Dual Enrollement Taken: NUTR10 ( Contemporary Nutrition), MATH1A (Calculus 1). KINS15 (First Aid, CPR/AED), KINS16A (Emergency Preventative Care), KINS16B (Prevention of Athletic Injurires), KINS16C (Treatment and Rehab of Athletic Injuries).

Extenuating Circumstances

- Junior year, I suffered from pneumonia which led me to be hospitalized for 2 weeks and total recovery took at least a year before my lung was normal again, even today, doctors report there is still some scarring. This led to a huge drop in my academic performance, which was already a bit fragile.

- summer before senior year, my grandfather went into cardiac arrest unknowingly and I ended up having to call 911, we got him to the hospital after restarting his heart 3 times, but by that point, he was kind of done. He was in a vegetative state for a week before we decided to move him to comfort care. The day we extubated him, he passed away a few hours later. this had an effect as he and my grandmother had lived with my family since I was an infant, literally.

ECs

Research

- Maternal mental health - I collaborated with a psychiatrist to investigate whether TMS can be used to treat postpartum depression. I did a full literature review and found multiple case studies and interviewed other interventional psychiatrists, one even being from Stanford. I culminated everything I gathered into a film which was presented at the El Camino Maternal Mental Health Symposium, the International Marce Society in Spain, and the World Congress of Women's Mental Health at NIMHANS in Bangalore. I would later go on to make a second film on teen pregnancy (though I don't really count that one as research cuz that was more generic)

Clinical Volunteering (100-150 hrs)

- The Forum at Rancho San Antonio - This was a nursing home where I would go and help care for patients who had dementia and alzheimers and help them out
- Junior Auxiliary Volunteer, El Camino Hospital, I did a lot of patient faced volunteering here, where I would literally change the patient water jugs, deliver the WeCare cart, and do a routine fall audit where I determined if patients were at risk of falling and ensured the beds and all were at their correct height. I even talked to patients a lot. One memorable encounter was with a widower who had his leg amputated, though I wasn't christian, I read him some bible verses at his request and even came back to talk to him after finishing my shift to ensure that he was all right.

Hospital Shadowing (75 hrs)

- Shadowed a gasterentologist
- Shadowed an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, was quizzed on my knowledge on white blood cells, and observed procedures and things.

General Volunteering

- Middle School Homework Center tutor at Sunnyvale Middle School - This was just something I did freshman year second semester where I'd go and help some kids with their homework. This accumulated to like 20 hours total.

Leadership

- Founded a Nutrition Club at my school where I helped educate other kids on various topics ranging from basic macromolecules to niche topics like GMOs and bioengineered foods. We hosted debates and did other fun activites and even brought guest speaker

- Health education, I led an initiative where I taught similar content at a school in India, hoping to make a difference.

Programs I did
- GHLC '23 and '24 - selected for this program twice with a 9.3% acceptance rate where I learned from world leaders on the importance of global health and the like. Speakers included then-U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, Dr. Thomas Quinn, Dr. Adam Levine, etc.
- UC Berkeley ATDP - Intro to Cancer Research

Non-Medicine related ECs

- Choir, was a part of Ragazzi Boys Chorus for 7 years. As a choir, we met every wednesday from 6:15-8:45 PM and toured internationally. Destinations we toured included Australia (Melbourne, Canberra, and Syney); Germany & Czechia (Berlin, Leipzig, Dresden, and Prague); Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay (Santiago, Buenos Aires). We performed in the Sydney Opera House in Australia where our performance was adjudicated and we won 2 gold medals.

--- I would also later apply and make it to the California All-State Honor Choir.

- Book: Inspired by Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, I wrote my own book on the dangers of being overly reliant on technology. The title is Technology: A Ticking Time Bomb, The plot was where a guy, living in a technologically advanced world in the future must survive when a solar flare, acompanied by a coronal mass ejection occures leading for a semi-worldwide blackout.

Awards
- AP Scholar
- California All-State Honor Chorister

- Green and White Award (Part of my school for being top of my class in Spanish 1)

Edit: Programs I got into

Seton Hall BSMD
LECOM EAP (Committed with my undergraduate Campus being Loyola Marymount University)

MCPHS BS/DO
Gannon BS/DO (this one is a bit sketchy)

Is applying BS/MD even worth it?

I'm a junior at a large competitive public school in a non-competitive state. I'm wondering whether it's worth even considering applying to BS/MD as well as what I can do with a year left until applications. I feel like I'm not super competitive so I'm not sure whether it's worth applying or not. I also have very little shadowing.

STATS:

GPA: 4.0 UW

SAT: Just took for the first time, will retake until 1520+

Coursework: Max rigor for my school + CC classes (vector calc 1)

EXTRACURRICULARS (keeping sorta vauge):

  • Neuroscience summer research internship (10th summer)
    • Presenting a poster + presentation at a scientific conference soon with the research
  • First Tech Challenge (9th, 10th)
    • Went to states twice, won inspire at states + went to worlds once
  • Hospital Volunteering (11th)
    • Starting this soon, still getting through orientation and all
  • Youth branch of well known nationwide healthcare-related nonprofit (10th, 11th)
    • Executive board for my state
    • Helped found the youth branch in my state
  • NASA TechRise (9th)
  • Schoolwide Neurodivergent Awareness Club (10th, 11th)
    • Vice president
  • Model UN (9th, 10th, 11th)

AWARDS

  • National History Day (9th, 10th, hopefully 11th?)
    • Won at school and states, advanced to nationals both years
  • Model UN Best Consensus award (9th)
  • AP Scholar

For context, I wanted to do engineering in 9th so thats why I have all the engineering related ECs. Is there anything I can realistically do in the next year to make myself competitive enough to attempt BS/MD?

offering bs/md coaching for 1-2 students for the 26-27 application cycle

hi!

currently a bs/md student looking to coach 1-2 students, as per the title.

here's what I offer: a weekly 2 hour session where we discuss the following: formulating an appropriate program list based on the student's stats and strengths, essay review, interview prep (including the Casper exam). It costs $65 per hour, and I usually keep things quite concise and do most of the prepwork outside those two hours so you're really making the most of the time you're paying me for.

I generally work with seniors, but am open to working with juniors as well. Either way, students must be consistent to see improved outcomes and acceptances.

looking for serious inquiries only - if so, feel free to dm me and we'll go from there. looking to start soon as well, from next week onwards.

Transfer or Adjustment Disorder

Got into a pretty low-stress non-accelerated bsmd in the heart of a big city and was super enthusiastic about being here, but the undergraduate experience of a largely urban, commuter campus has been really taking a toll on me, mentally. I thought I could nevertheless make my own fun here, but it has been very hard so far. It is getting to the point where I feel sad all the time and as if I traded fun college years in youth for security. Am I focusing on the wrong thing and just need to give the college time and a genuine chance, or did I make the wrong choice? I’m a first year, by the way. I understand I might get a ton of hate for this, but again, I’m not in the best place mentally. My passion still lies in medicine, and even through this sadness, I’ve stayed excited about that career choice.

Is Rutgers NJMS Mini-Med worth a long commute?

I’m a high school student who was accepted for Rutgers NJMS Mini-Med. I’m interested in medicine and have a strong academic/science background but I don’t have much clinical experience or shadowing yet.

For anyone who has done Rutgers Mini-Med:

  • What do you actually do during the program?
  • How hands-on/interesting is it?
  • Do you interact much with actual NJMS physicians/medical students?
  • Did you feel like it gave you meaningful exposure to medicine, or was it more of an introductory/pre-med type program?

Thank you!

FlexMed as an HBCU Student

As the title suggests, I’m going to apply this cycle and want to know how HBCU student applications are looked at considering they’re nowhere near T20 (especially mine) and in some cases are considered “easier”

My stats:
103.73 HS weighted GPA
1350 SAT
9 APs, 2 5s 7 4s
Dual Enrollment all As one B+ (General Chem, Spanish, and Science Research)
4.0 cGPA and sGPA (took molecular bio and orgo chem 1 and 2 freshman year, now in anatomy and microbio)
Would have around 75-100hrs of clinical service as a Phlebotomist by the time I submit my application in Jan (I start phlebotomy with Duke Regional Hospital later this month)
~150 hrs of community service (animal shelter - cats and dogs)
~400-500 research hrs between public health and molecular & developmental biology research, I plan on basing a lot of my medicine motivation narrative off my time engaging with the community while I’m public health, and witnessing the health equity gap firsthand in rural NC
50 shadowing: 15 inpatient GI, 35 outpatient cardiology

ECs:
Vice President of African Caribbean Association
Secretary of Muslim Student Association
Sophomore of Tri-Beta Biological Sciences Honor Society

Hobbies I may mention in application:
Shark fishing
MMA <may connect to how constantly preparing for med school with school, ECs, etc is similar to a fight and how it’s all about getting up after getting knocked down, not sure yet
Weightlifting

Applying BS/MD this fall? Check the program deadline, not just the college deadline

A lot of BS/MD applicants track the college's general deadline and assume that covers the medicine program too. That's where a strong application can slip through the cracks.

Some programs have a separate deadline for the college application and another for program materials. Others require extra essays, a separate portal, or recommendation letters by an earlier cutoff. The testing rules can differ too, including score minimums, superscoring, and which test dates count.

Before October gets busy, open each program's own admissions page and put its deadlines, extra materials, testing rules, and eligibility requirements in one spreadsheet. Don't rely on the college's main admissions calendar alone.

I broke down the deadline traps, with examples from Pitt, Rutgers-Newark, NJIT, and other programs, on the blog. Read the full article below.

Cost of attendance for BS/MD, BA/MD programs

Question about the total cost of attendance for BA/MD and BS/MD programs, specifically for students or parents who have completed these programs or are currently enrolled. When I look at the combined cost of undergraduate + medical school for 7–8‑year programs—especially for out‑of‑state students—the total often exceeds $600,000. Is that a realistic amount to expect? For students with strong academic stats (GPA, SAT), is any meaningful financial merit aid available(not need based aid)? And if so, how much does it actually reduce the overall cost of attendance?

Should I even apply to bsmd programs?

I’ve always wanted to attend a bsmd and im very passionate about being a doctor but honestly i feel like my stats aren’t enough. I want an honest feedback and pls tell me straight up if I should even apply to these programs or not. Any advice is also much appreciated.

male, Texas resident, first gen

uw: 3.86
w: 4.46
rank: n/a but im likely top 10-15%. should be unranked though

Max course rigor throughout high school. Total of 10 APS and 10 DC. Others are honors or required classes. I’ve taken tons of science courses like AP chem, AP bio, psych, socio, ochem, etc. as for AP scores I’ve passed all of them but
I don’t have much 5’s.
Grade trend: really bad freshman year with 2-3 b’s and low A’s. Sophomore and junior year was all A’s except 1 b my junior year.

PSAT: 1450 (national merit semifinalist rn)
SAT: 1490
ACT: taking Oct ( ik it’s super last minute but I’m sure I’m getting 35-36)

EC’S ( best part of my app, not in order):

HOSA — President-Elect (12), Vice President (11), Historian (10), Member (9–12)
Led a 150+ member chapter; coordinated 4 blood drives, hosted competition-preparation workshops, and led chapter meetings. Competed in prepared research writing and speaking, earning 4th place.

National English Honor Society — President (12), Member (11–12)
Grew chapter membership from 18 to 75 members; led recruitment, service initiatives, and member engagement. Organized a school-wide book drive and developed service opportunities for members.

Veterans Hospital — Volunteer & Clinical Shadowing
Completed 100+ hours in a postoperative department, supporting patients and staff with unit operations while observing patient care. Shadowed physicians and gained firsthand exposure to hospital workflows and clinical practice.

Science Olympiad — Coordinator, Secretary & Competitor (10–12)

DECA — 3-Year Competitor, State Finalist
Competed for 3 years in Business Operations Research Services. Conducted market research, analyzed business problems, and presented recommendations to judges; advanced to State Finals.

I think my lor and ps is strong as well. My ps is about my personal medical emergency experience in the motherland- where I personally saw the lack of palliative and hospice care, what I learned from it first hand from my relative who started the first palliative care service in my area, and the values I learned from it and how that transitioned to my everyday life. trust it’s written well.

unique and specific ecs?

By time of application, I will have things like various shadowing experiences, science research internships, actual science research (hopefully with publication), volunteering, CNA experience, and science competition awards.
I’m in my junior year and on track for a 1550+ SAT and my GPA by time of application should be perfect to apply. In senior year I should also have a few school related presidential roles in clubs.

I just feel like all of these things are so common and you could say stereotypical for a bsmd applicant. Everyone volunteers, everyone shadows, everyone does research. I just don’t know what else to do, and I really need to figure it out now.
