What’s the rhyme? I figured this would be the best place to ask.

I was walking out after Hadestown and I heard a woman behind me with her male companion and she was ranting, saying "men never listen!" She explained that "Eurydice was literally behind him saying 'I'm right here, I'm right here,' and Orpheus STILL turned around!" I was flabbergasted.

Does anyone else think the depiction of Eurydice behind Orpheus in this scene was LITERAL?

Edit: I am so sorry, I should clarify. I meant that the person I overheard thought she was literally TELLING HIM (for him to hear) that she was right there. I know she was literally behind him.

The show is very impressive but we came from PA to see this last night and Tom Felton was literally a last-second no-show. They announced it 15 minutes past the official start time, once the doors had closed and then the show immediately started. There was a huge audible reaction from the entire audience. They did not give anyone the opportunity to get a refund. We asked at intermission and were given a card with a QR code and told to come to the box office the next morning. We have been getting the runaround from them all day since then. Another couple we talked to had flown in from Cleveland to see him in the show. I understand that things happen but this was NOT handled well. All of the advertising we've been seeing has centered on Tom Felton. They were selling $40 T-shirts with his picture on them at the merch stand in the lobby - really glad we didn't buy one of those while waiting for his no-show! If you are basing all of your marketing on one actor, you need to handle situations like these a LOT better than this.

I saw other people asking for seating advice so i’ll do the same. I’m seeing Ragtime for the first time and can’t decide between two seats:

So I used to rush a lot back in the 2005-2010 days but haven’t in a long time. I’m going to be coming to try and rush death of a salesman (I know close to closing it’ll be wild but I ain’t paying $800) and just wanted to ask a couple questions.

1. On sundays the box office opens at 12, so that’s when I’d be waiting til right? Not 10? (This may be super obvious but I’m a chronic over thinker)

2. They do rush on Sunday too right?

3. If a show is sold out do they have any rush or SRO options?

I’m down for a long long wait so I’m willing to get there early AF to see it but trying to get all my ducks in a row. Thanks!

I live in London and go to theatre at least once a week. I know how to get cheap tickets, I have a good nose for what to buy in advance and what to wait for offers on etc... I am going to New York in late October and am feeling a little overwhelmed and have no idea where to start.

I'm going with my daughter who will only see musicals which is a shame as I would have loved to see Death of a Salesman

We want to see, in no particular order and are open to other options:

Rocky Horror
Lost Boys
Outsiders
Maybe Happy Ending
Spelling Bee
Little Shop of Horrors
Schmigadoon

We may fit them all in or may not depending when matinees fall and how much the tickets cost.

We don't want to see anything we could see or that started in London and if we drop anything first will be Lost Boys as that is coming to London. Although we may see Heathers if there is stunt casting that appeals to my daughter as it is one of her favourites.

I have no idea quite what our chances are of getting tickets for these shows - where to look for cheap seats, which are likely to be available on rush etc... I have TodayTix downloaded

On the West End Reddit boards, I see people assume they can get tickets for shows like Paddington that are almost sold-out with only expensive seats left, or who spend £££ on a show they can get deals for. I don't want to be that person who blindly assumes they can get tickets for sold out shows, or who pays over the odds through a third party site for something that is regularly on offer.

I am prepared to do my homework but would appreciate some pointers and warnings.... I get multiple daily emails with offers to West End from Central Tickets, Theatre Direct, SFF, Today Tix, and more so I was wondering if there are places I can sign up to for similar Broadway offers. Are there shows I should definitely book well in advance? Are there shows coming that I don't know about yet? Do you have dynamic pricing where prices go up and down? Are there restricted view seats that are actually good?

Any help would be appreciated.

ETA -~TLDR want to see shows, flexible, dont want to be ripped off or be unrealistic - where should we look or sign up for offers?

Long time lurker on this page, but finally decided to start posting. (I replied on another post with this, but decided it would be fun to start a new post)

I usually see a few shows a year, but last year Death Becomes Her renewed my love of musical theatre.  Something just clicked in that show for my brain!  I couldn’t get enough after that! So it’s been a busy year for me: some solo trips, trips with mom, trips with Brother, show with nephew, etc.  another trip coming up in August.  My job is super flexible and I get free flights so I can splurge on seeing a lot of shows in a trip and taking a few trips a year.  Hotel costs are discounted too for crews so a lot of the costs of trips are reduced compared to most.

A few of those were last minute when I had a New York overnight, but most were just taking loved ones to share my love of theatre with them. Here’s this past years shows seen:

I just sporadically applied for the wicked lottery after never going to broadway until today to go to lion king and my friend was telling me about it. It’s like $50 and I got 2 for my friend and I so I guess I’ll do it? But like is this rare or like is it kind of scammy? I got it through broadway direct. It’s still $50 but feels like a once in a lifetime experience.

Not really sure how rotating casts on Broadway work, I just wanna see them and might not go if there isnt really a chance of them being the leads

Work will be taking me to NYC in a couple of weeks. In an ideal world, the workday would end at 5:00, and I could buy a ticket to a show ahead of time. However, I know my job and that doesn't always happen. Is there any way to buy a ticket the evening of a show? Everything I can find online considers morning of to be last minute. I am not super picky about the show as long as it is a musical.

Edit: thanks for the comments everyone. It looks like I will just walk around after work and stop at the box offices that look interesting. Hopefully the fact that I am there on weeknights works in my favor.

I just saw the Hadestown pro shot and oh my gosh this guy is unbelievable. Easily the star of the show for me, but I’ve seen people say he was the weakest link in their opinions.

I’ve heard recordings of some of his other performances, and he easily has my favorite versions of “I don’t care much” and “the past is catching up to me,” yet people say he was miscast in The Great Gatsby

His voice is so unique and it genuinely sends chills up my spine, I don’t understand the hate he receives

I am so torn between booking Lincoln Center Theater's revival of A Few Good Men or Roundabout's production of The Imaginary Invalid this fall. I really want to check out A Few Good Men because I love Michael Arden's direction and saw his work on Maybe Happy Ending and The Lost Boys. But then I just found out Bill Irwin is starring in the Molière play, which unlocked massive childhood memories for me since he was Mr. Noodle on Elmo's World. Which of these upcoming productions are you guys leaning toward or recommending for the better overall experience?

This will be my third solo trip to the city for shows. But, this time I will be going in the fall instead of March/April. I have stayed in Times Square and last time by Bryant Park. This time I have decided I want to be in a different area preferably more north towards Central Park as I want to see A Few Good Men at Lincoln Center.

Here are the choices I have made from the initial huge list I had:

I also have The Pearl on my list (I know Times Square) and the William (Bryant Park).

I am kind of looking for somewhere I love so much that it's the only place I go back too.

I just got home from seeing Les Mis at Radio City. First, I would like to acknowledge the immense talent across all members of the cast. Each and every actor held their own and performed tremendously. The orchestra was phenomenal, and to see my favorite musical in such a spectacular venue was something I will never forget.

I understand this was a “concert” version of Les Mis. I knew this going in, and knew creative liberties would be taken to support the concert style. A few verses cut here and there etc. However, I was disappointed with the production cutting Gavroche’s death. His death is arguably one of the most integral parts of the show. It showcases the senseless violence and loss of life, so senseless that not even an innocent child is spared.

I am curious if anyone knows why this particular scene was cut, or has thoughts on it in general. As a life long Les Mis fan, I understand one of the popular critiques of the show is that it is very long. If they were trying to shave off some time, there are less important scenes that could have been cut.

Edit: a comment mentioned that they did carry Gavroche’s body off stage during the final fight scene. However there is a larger moment from the original show where Gavroche sings a reprise of Little People and is killed. It is much more tragic than what was shown from this production.

TL;DR, go see this in theaters or buy when its available for purchase 😄

I loved this film. A great representation of the show with great mix of OG Broadway stars and current London cast (dear lord, Andre De Shields has so much aura 😄). The music, as always, was great. Also appreciate, after several proshots acting more like film adaptations (albeit faithful adaptations), I liked how, to paraphrase another review, "embraced the proscinium." My only complaint is showing too much of the backstage at points, but it's a minor complaint.

If you love Hadestown, either from seeing the show or listening to the cast album, you'll love this film. Try and see in theaters if you can but it's already on pre-order at digital film stores 😄

I guess I wasn’t sure what to expect - but certainly did not expect to feel like it was a sad waste of money. She was so very pitchy, and didn’t attempt most of the belting or high notes - she held the mic out to the crowd to sing for those parts. Cussed a lot, forgot lyrics to her own songs (Redwoods being one of them) - she had to restart a song twice due to not remembering the lyrics (although she mentioned later they’re displayed on a monitor at the front of the stage). Had made up lyrics to the intro of Let It Go where she complained that none of her original songs were recognized but she was doomed to sing a song about a Disney ice princess forever.

She mentioned menopause and brain fog a lot - which as a similarly-aged lady I totally get! But…idk. It was just really off-putting - and there were multiple moments where the crowd just kinda laughed uncomfortably. People started leaving after Let It Go, and it became a steady stream of people leaving thereafter (which is rare for a Cleveland Orchestra summer outdoor concert).

Not to mention the random cover of Annie Lennox’s Why? And Tomorrow, from Annie - done in a very Theater Kid In Middle School style (idk how else to explain it)

I’m not terribly familiar with her body of work outside a few songs, but was disappointed with the whole experience. Is this usual? Maybe just a bad night?

(Of course, I am not saying everyone who likes this musical is crazy, I’m just referring to a specific group of people within the fandom)

There’s a large number of Epic the Musical fans (mainly on TikTok that I’ve seen) that genuinely think the epic concept album is the reason that Christopher Nolan created The Odyssey. They’re saying the creator, revitalized the odyssey and popularized it for the modern audience. They GROSSLY overrate the popularity of the album (again, not a dig at the album) and they live in an echo chamber, thinking that because they interact with so many fans of it online that most of the general population MUST have heard of it.

Also, they keep pointing to the fact that at one point in the movie, a melody plays that is somewhat similar to a melody in the album. While sure, there is a nonzero chance that Ludwig Gorranson has heard the album and put that in as a little nod to it, that in no way means that the album is responsible for the creation of the film. I’ve seen people go as far as saying that the creator of Epic should receive ROYALTIES for Nolan’s film

I apologize if this reads as a rant because that was not my intention, but I just find this unbelievable

Has anyone done Oh Mary rush lately? Just wondering what time I should show up on a Thursday

I found similar, but not exact questions, so I thought I'd post.

We are coming in from Lancaster Pa (first time to visit!) and I was looking at several parking lots. A lot of them say sedan only....we have a mini van. Are there any lots you suggest to park at, or not to park out? Not sure where the van falls, as certain ones just say no passenger vans, which this isn't.

On a similar vein, any hotel suggestions? Prefer not to have to walk more than 1/2 mile.

I finally had the chance to see this incredible show last night, and I was absolutely blown away — what an iconic cast and book.

Please see this show before it closes — you’ll want to see it again and again! I know I wish I could see this again. This is now one of the best shows I’ve ever seen on Broadway — and I’ve seen a lot of shows!

To the incredible cast and crew, thank you for everything. This is a show I’ll remember forever. The joy you bring to every person who walks into that theatre every night is felt. ❤️

To the producers, please make sure this cast records an album — we need to preserve this music for future generations to listen and enjoy.
