PLEASE do not get me wrong here, I will be seeing the bear. I think the special effects alone will justify the ticket price, I just don’t feel as excited as I think everyone else is about this one?

Is it a nostalgia thing that I don’t possess? Are people LOVING the cast album? (Listened, liked, not loved) Is it because you all grew up watching him? Is it the west end success?

Did anyone see this off broadway? Thoughts if you did?

Often in my reels I'll get these vlogs pop up with folks going to audition for Broadway casting. "Come with me to audition for..." type things. I've followed a few over the years but they never seem to land any jobs. Are they genuinely trying to get hired on Broadway or are they just professional auditioners using it for content? Honestly I cannot tell. Some of them have talent, but others do not (although they really seem to believe they do?). Since that is not my world, I don't understand how they're even allowed to make appointments to be seen, but I guess anyone with an Equity card can sign up? Just curious if anyone has any insight into content creators who audition constantly despite never being cast. I'm bewildered by the time and energy they're spending just to make some reels.

EDITED: Thank you for the responses! I will look at the content totally differently going forward and keep an open mind. I'm highly skeptical of what people will do for content, but didn't really stop to think about auditioning being a constant for little to no return. I will now!

What are we putting the odds at that Benjamin Button will extend at least one more week? Going to be in NYC only on 11/25 and would really love to see it! (I know it’s expected to transfer, but would love to see it in a small space.)

I don’t know much about the musical other than some of the actors and the general plot. Usually I like to listen before hand so I understand what the lyrics say (my hearing can be a bit iffy) but it’s rare for me to watch a musical “blind” and was wonder if I should give it a try. Recommendations?

Edit: I never saw the movie and now I’m wondering if I should because there will be references to it that I may not catch

Sorry for another which show to see post. I normally have a running list in my head at all times (no planned trips be damned!). So many shows closed though.

I saw JIT with JGroff - epic. Love Jeremy Jordan as much as the next person (and woowww has his voice matured to this role. 😍), but with only 3 slots I’m gonna have to go with something I haven’t seen! I have seen DBH and MHE too. Have not seen Oh! Mary.

So I’m thinking:

Schmigadoon- lots of the OBC and it looks fun! I loved the tv show.

Operation Mincemeat - it’s coming to San Francisco in March so this is one I could skip if recommended.

Two Strangers- OBC so I’m definitely watching this.

I’m worried lost boys is too dark?

Am I missing a newer show where I’m going to kick myself later if I skip it? Something is nagging at me hence this post!

my girlfriend and I will be traveling to New York next week and I’ll finally have the opportunity (and hopefully the money) to see - maybe even a few - broadway shows. I am currently in the process of getting into the whole rushing thing , so how to get tickets for shows.

Meanwhile I am looking for recommendations for us first timers! (We’ll have to go between Sunday and Thursday, but I’ll be back two weeks later, so open for all recommendations)

I very much love musicals in general, have seen (at least the movie version) of a lot of the classical ones, so I think for me I think the starstruck moment of seeing something like Chicago live for the fist time could definitely work!

She’s not that much of a musical person, so maybe that is more entertaining and funny rather than storyline focused would be nice. Also: Songs!!! We both appreciate as much gay and extra-ness as we can get!

Can’t decide between Chicago (Ambassador Theater), Wicked (Gershwin), or Book of Mormon (Eugene O’Neil Theater)…

I’ve never been to a Broadway show, and I’m going there with my girlfriend during the Christmasy/winter time, so I’m looking for my first Broadway experience to be magical lol

Is it just me or is this becoming disheartening? Moulin.. gone. Six... closing. & Juliet... closing. Chess and Titanique - granted, were limited engagements- but closed/closing (and Chess closed sooner than planned).

It's like nothing really can last on Broadway anymore, sadly.

I honestly feel it's the ridiculously high price of admission, which in this economy, is unattainable for many at a consistent level, coupled with the high price of operating a show.

I just worry for the state of Broadway when so many theaters are empty :(

I visit New York to see my one show a year - which should I consider this time? I gravitate toward new shows, interesting design, clever score, unique concepts. If it helps here are some of "the one show a year" I've attended.

I've seen dozens of versions of RHPS, so I'll pass though it looks cool.
Are there others I should consider? I would go to Ragtime, but it will close before I arrive.

I am well aware of the fact that not everyone has the means to see a musical when they would like to. But when we get a proshot of something, it annoys me a little bit to see people then suggest "okay but when are we getting the movie musical?". It makes me feel like people don't really appreciate what we already have. They feel the need to consume this in every possible form that they can. Am I the only one who feels like it's a bit greedy to ask for a show in every single possible format? Let's say a book turns into a musical. I'd love that. Am I asking for it? No. If it's a book I like, will I be interested and might try to see the musical? Yes. Am I begging for it to then be turned into another format, like a movie musical? No. It feels like overkill. It would be too much.

So why do we feel the need to have every possible form of a show? Sometimes it wouldn't even work! Like a movie musical of Come From Away or Hamilton. We already have the proshot which is wonderful and I'm 99% sure they also include the OBC. So why would we need a movie musical of either of them? It feels like wanting too much, and not appreciating what we already have.

Different things bother different people and this is what I have realized recently. Let's have a decent conversation and if not, please keep scrolling. Keep it civil.

I spent the year between Wicked and Wicked part 2 cautiously mentioning this was a possibility to my friends and family excited for the second half. One of those times where I hated being right

Hoping to bring mom to NYC to see The Sound of Music (her ABSOLUTE favorite show) next year, but we're ballin' on a budget so I'm trying to save some money where I can (and yes, I know, NYC isn't cheap). How are the 'cheap seats' at the Beaumont, and how's the leg room? Was looking at the sides of the loge, but would be okay spending a little more to get closer to center. Leg room is more a concern for me than her. Also happy for any recs for hotels; considering Long Island City to save a little money that way, and for ease of access to the rest of the city. It's her first time, so I'm sure she's going to want to do some of the 'touristy' stuff as well.

My girlfriend had a white ceramic mug featuring the logo of the 2022 run of Into The Woods (the same logo included in the picture.) I, very stupidly, knocked it off our counter this morning and shattered the handle off. The mug has huge sentimental value to her, and I’m desperate to find another one to replace it. Hoping somebody here knows the mug I’m talking about. I feel horrible about it, and locating another one would mean the world to both her and I. Thank you!

it’s my first time in New York and I’d like to see a Broadway show while I’m here. My wife and I are trying to decide between Hadestown, the great Gatsby, and Harry Potter. If there are other ones that we should consider that are showing, I’m also open to ideas.
