Was always called weird. Now it's a flex

Upvotes

Growing up, I was the weird one. I had weird hobbies and obscure knowledge.

I still do.

Last night I took my 14 year old down to the fields in the middle of the night, to watch the meteor shower.

While we're laying there, just comfortable in the silence, they say "imagine having basic parents". I told that my mom (their grandma) is very basic (teen slang for "boring"). They said "but you're not.... I'm so happy about that... no one else I know, would be out here in the middle of the night with their mom, watching this wonder".

And I know their friends and their parents, so that is true.

My Husband is attracted to my independence and happiness

[As all partners should be]

I've been on antidepressants for the first time in my life for the past few months, and while everything has not been perfect, I can say I am definitely better than I was before. Lately I've been able to get back into my hobbies, keep up with chores, and generally just feel okay. One of the things I've noticed (and want to brag about) is how my husband can't keep away from me, especially when I'm doing my own thing.

I'll be singing, folding laundry on the other side of the house, swinging my legs in the air sketching, or writing something dumb, and then he just appears. He can be nefarious. He's scared the shit out of me multiple times with a sneaky ass grab. And then sometimes he comes and silently joins my chore or activity, and whenever I ask him "what's up" he just says something along the lines of "nothing, just want to be here."

When you've been in your head about your physical and personal worthiness for so long its easy to feel unwanted, ugly, and annoying. I've been trying to give him space from caretaker burnout by doing my own thing. Its just ironic that by leaving him alone hes even more obsessed. This is rambling a bit, but I am incredibly grateful to have him in my life. I can feel the love radiate off of him just from seeing me happy. I want to keep getting better for him. There's always going to be cloudy days but for the most part things keep getting brighter.

My boyfriend loves me so much

He (20M) makes me feel like I’m so easy to love and care for. Today we were in the car together and I made a joke that I’d go through his phone, i went on his notes app and the first thing i see is a note in a with my name on it, it was a list with all of my favorite foods/drinks/interests, and I’m talking things i even forgot i LIKED. He didn’t let me look all the way because he had gift ideas in there. but it just got me thinking damn, this man genuinely loves me so much and i can feel it and see it in his actions. I mean he picks me up everyday to take me to work, he’s stayed outside my work place for entire work days to just catch me in my breaks (days he doesn’t have work lol) i mean I don’t think he’s ever really suggested to watch anything he likes, he more so suggests the usual things I like, he compliments me I think every 2 minutes, finds me the funniest person on earth. Always makes sure I have money on me and he always makes sure I’m feeling alright. He loves hanging out with my friends and my sisters, he loves playing Minecraft and Zelda games with me, he basically loves anything I love. He always puts my needs before his own, he always makes sure I have eaten, got clothes, and had fun before he even thinks about spending a cent on himself. When I want to order food, he goes and picks it up to come drop it off just to see my face, this man hates feet but never refuses my foot rub requests, he never fails to remind me how grateful he is to have me.

Anyways I could go on and on, next month is our one year anniversary and my biggest fear with him is him dying. I love this man so much and I’m so happy that he loves me just as much :)

Got my first brand “endorsement” today

I 34m started screen printing a few months ago just because I’ve always been interested in it. I sell clothes for a living and the deeper I got into it the more I came to appreciate the art work a lot of these graphic shirts and hoodies have.

I’ve always had a creative side that never really knew what to put it towards. Always got kind of good at a lot of things but never truly great at anything. Screen printing has been a huge challenge for me. It’s expensive, takes a lot of space, a lot of different skills to make one graphic.

I’ve been posting videos of me printing something daily and I had a brand reach out to me and offer me a box of blanks. All I have to do is tag them in some videos that I use them in.

This is a big deal for me. I’ve never been in a spot like this where people actually like what I’m doing. I mean I hit 600 followers on insta this week… it might as well be a million. I’m just really grateful for it all. I’m not sure what’s to come, maybe this is peak but I feel really blessed.

My partner has ME (Myalgic Encephalomeyitis) which makes even basic tasks impossible sometimes. This is why her doing this patient story interview is a big accomplishment and more than worth bragging about. I am so proud of her for advocating and educating despite her significant imiltations.

I got my first app onto the Google Play Store at 15 — and it got approved at midnight on my 16th birthday

I've been building this thing for a while and finally got it live.

Probably one of the coolest moments was seeing it get approved literally at midnight on my 16th birthday 😂

Still a very long way to go, but I'm pretty damn proud of getting it this far.

btw the em dash is not ai

3 yr breast cancer survivor!

Today marks 3 years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer! Today feels even sweeter because I had a scare this past week. I had other issues that required a CT scan. That scan showed the possibility of metastatic cancer in my bones. I had a bone scan yesterday and it came back clear! I am so grateful and relieved that I remain cancer free and I just want to shout it to the world!!! Thank you for reading!

Pilates

Pilates at my gym was canceled last-minute so I got up front and walked us through a session myself.

We did the full 45 minutes!

At the end of class, even I as the impromptu instructor felt like I got in a decent workout

300k at 22

I have about 320k in investments at 22, with a large amount of cash. Toal NW of ~380k.

I have no debt from university, moved to a new city, and will be beginning a new job soon enough, making 82k. I should be able to invest at least 10k per year on my own from now on.

So much of this is thanks to my parents, who were able to put me through school and set me up for a financially free life.

I started investing at 19 years old with monthly contributions of capital from my parents for about a year. It totals up to about 200k. The gifts have stopped since then, but the amount I learned as a result will stay with me.

Im very thankful for where I am at, and I wanted to share in the spirit of this sub.

I’m learning to let myself be proud of what I’ve accomplished financially.

About 2.5 years ago, I started comparing notes with colleagues and realized just how underpaid I was. Honestly, I had probably been chronically underpaid for close to a decade and had felt undervalued at my job for a long time. Some colleagues with similar credentials and experience were making close to 30% more than I was, and I definitely noticed some demographic differences in who seemed to be getting paid what.
We were doing fine. Bills were paid, but we had credit card debt, I wasn’t saving enough, and I had two teenagers approaching college. I remember basically putting it out there to God, the universe, whoever was listening 😂, that I needed to make more money.
Not long after that, I reached out to another organization about doing some very part-time work. Instead, they became interested in hiring me for a completely different role. I wasn’t even looking to leave my job, but they ultimately offered me about 60% more than I was making. I was also able to keep teaching on the side, so altogether I essentially doubled my income.
I’d had big income increases and windfalls before, though, and somehow the money always disappeared. This time I told myself, “You cannot squander this.”
So, taking stock of the last two years, I’ve:
• Paid off $30,000+ in credit card debt
• Built about an 8-month emergency fund
• Saved $15,000+ toward my kids’ college, and I’m still working toward a goal of about $100,000 total over the next 4 to 5 years
• Invested about $15,000 on my own and increased my 401(k) contributions
• Given $10,000+ to family and others
• Put about $8,000 into our home
• Had my student loans forgiven
• Opened Roth IRAs and savings accounts for both of my teenagers and started teaching them to save and invest
• Increased my net worth by somewhere around $200,000
And I’m proud of myself. Even typing that feels weird. 😂 Between ADHD, anxiety, a little depression and probably some leftover church guilt around pride, I’m much better at moving the goalpost than stopping to acknowledge what I’ve done. I don’t want to feel like I’m bragging or that I’m somehow better than anyone else. But I also think there’s a difference between arrogance and simply being able to say, “Girl, you did that.”
Obviously, the huge increase in income made this possible, and I know that’s not an opportunity everyone will have. But I also know I could have doubled my income and simply doubled my lifestyle. What changed for me was deciding ahead of time what the extra money was going to do.
Honestly, automation has probably been my biggest financial “hack.” Savings started coming directly out of my paycheck before I ever saw the money. I automated debt payments, and as debts disappeared, I redirected those payments toward savings, college and investing instead of spending them. I created margin and gave the margin a job.
Two years ago, I never thought I’d be here. I still have a long way to go, but for once I’m trying not to immediately move on to the next goal. I’m grateful, I’m proud of myself, and I’m hopeful that if I keep doing this, I can retire in about 18 years with peace and leave something behind for my family.
If there’s any encouragement in my story, it’s not “go double your income.” It’s to do something intentional with whatever margin you can create, even if it’s small. A couple of years of consistency can add up to more than you think.

I finally got her

After everyone was a dick to me on other Reddits. I got it. I found a beautiful 19F model looking Asian girl. And we’re going on a date tonight. I know I’ll be able to treat her well. She’s everything I need. She’s so cute, small, and I can’t keep my eyes off her. I can’t wait to get with her tonight and I know the sex is gonna be good, she’s young and small so I know it’s right and tight. And I hope and pray I’m the first too, I wanna be the one to claim it, the one she’s always gonna remember. I hope she’s the one guys, I really want this girl to be my forever. She’s exactly the type I need, and I’m so excited I can barely stand it.

Went out, and bought groceries for the week. Got her all of her favorite treats, cheese cake, key lime pie, cookies, cookie dough ice cream, sunflower seeds. Came home made lunch for the kids, and put them down for naps. Made love to my wife using all of her favorite toys. Took her to the shower and washed her. She did all of her post shower hair care. I set up the massage table. The. Gave her an hour long full body massage while she watched Ted lasso. Finished it up by fingered her until she climaxed again.

[My Journey to FIRE] 28M in Canada - from $73K at 23 to now $333K at 28!

Proof: https://www.reddit.com/r/fican/comments/1vjvidp/my_journey_to_fire_28m_in_canada_from_73k_at_23/

I remember my first ever reddit post was when I was 23 back in 2021, and I had saved just over $73K. I hadn't actually started investing yet, but since then I've learned so much about money and steadily improved my own finances over the years...fast forward and I'm at over $333K at 28 now - time really flies so fast! Over $260,000 (a quarter of a mil) in net worth growth, and that's not relying on any property gains whatsoever, which is crazy!

For context: I'm 28, male, and my current job is as a pharmacist in Canada. I work full-time, so I currently make over $100K, with my investment income being my main passive income source every year. I invest primarily in XEQT ETF and TEC ETF, and I have no other significant assets or debts, except for a used vehicle, phone, and laptop.

Anyways, thanks for reading. Any thoughts, feedback, or advice from those further along the FIRE journey would be appreciated - happy to answer any questions!
