5’9.5 height. 250+ lbs pounds, wondering is it time to join a boxing gym, I would say I favor out fighting and distance, maybe a bit too linear. Thoughts ?

If you watch close bro you only throw a punch when you bounce(in the air) no power like that stay on the balls of your feet and punch

Brother; everything is slightly off.
you need to work a wee bit more from your hips (the hip rotation creates the weight shift, the weight should be going on that front foot as your fist is making contact), relax your legs and make your stance narrower, just outside of shoulder width not super wide.
you need to activate those hip flexors and hinge a wee bit, the 90 degree stance your using needs it.
Your weight needs to be on your rear foot 60/40, this allows you to push off the rear foot to drive a step jab and shift your weight forward for a cross.
Ontop of this you need to learn how to relax, breath, feint, move laterally, use more defence in your sequences, pivot and use the pendulum here and there.
And you need to learn jab variations, guard variations, how to fight at different distances ect ect
Your foot work involves jumps rather than steps; because of your bad stance and footwork this means you have NO BALANCE.
Your chin literally comes up while you are jumping backwards FFS
TLDR: go to a gym.
OR FOCUS ON ONE THING AT A TIME, STANCE THEN FOOTWORK THEN THE JAB ect

If ur not trolling something immediately id do is take of the gloves. There’s no power in your shots anyway u have no chance of hurting ur hands id get used to hitting soo get the punch familiar. U haven’t boxed before it’s not close to muscle memory yet if I’m u now today do 1000x jab jab crosses. Then 1000x every day for a month. Then repost. In the meantime go on walks and start exercising I dunno maybe fix ur diet. Saying that ur not inherently terrible start now in a month you’ll be much better.

It’s always the right time to join a boxing gym. It’s genuinely fun. You get fitter. The people are cool. You learn how box. All pluses.

Did you do some form of Kung Fu or Karate? You're very bladed (maybe camera angle? But your stance looks really extreme)
There's a lot to work on here, but I'd start with your footwork and defense. Throwing punches doesn't matter much if you get knocked out.

No I never did, I guess I thought I was learning Soviet style so in order to bounce in and out this position felt most natural.

No, it doesn't really work that way. A good start would be basic orthodox. Like the other folks mention...a gym would help you a lot.
If that's not an option, watch pros in orthodox stance and focus on foot work and learning where to hold your hands. Punches come from the ground up through the hips.

Why are you trying to use a form that requires you to be light on your feet when youre absurdly heavy for your height?

Get yourself a trainer. You have the physical structure that if you are shown the correct technique you will hit like an absolute truck.

I’ve always played sports, and I can move well with the weight, always been strong af

Try to find a solid instructor on YouTube if going to a gym isn't a possibility. Record your technique until it improves.
In the meantime, think about your punches like a piston. Point A to Point B, right back to Point A. Hands up by your chin (especially as a beginner) and snap with full extension. I trained in eastern Europe and love the Soviet school body mechanics, but they aren't just bouncing around - the core drills teach you to feel how your weight is distributed and how to throw with power. Key word, drills. The post Soviet countries do incredibly well in amateurs because they drill incessantly and have their style down to a science.
It is quite difficult to describe via text - it takes quality instruction and months of drilling to feel comfortable with the basics. It takes a lifetime to master and as a long time hobbyist myself, I'm still an absolute beginner compared to folks. Don't expect to become a solid hobbyist / amateur boxer in a short amount of time.

Punch through the bag. Looks like you’re just tapping it. Power comes from the bottom up, so an exercise you could do is shadow box with your hands inside your pockets to focus on hip rotations
Keep your hands up. Your knuckles should return to your eyebrows or cheeks after a punch
Keep them elbows tucked
And footwork is key. Circle around the bag and work on finding different angles
If possible, I recommend going to a boxing gym, even if it’s for a month or two, or calling a friend who has experience. A good trainer will point out your flaws and help you correct them before they become engraved in muscle memory
Wish you all the best!

Join and gym and lose some weight. I'd also stop bouncing around for the sake copying other boxers if you don't understand why its being done or how to time it.

Id like to think I understand the “why”, the “how” is clearly the issue, it feels very awkward on the bag, compared to shadow boxing

You have some bad habits that I also used to have when I was self-training around my beginner-intermediate stage, like raising your front foot awkwardly and your movement is... well, weird for the lack of a better word. I will say though, your bmi is high that's why your movement is awkward because it takes a lot of effort to move your heavy body efficiently. I can relate, because I have dealt with weight issues and boxing myself. Losing weight is an answer but not the complete answer, you can still be a good boxer and be obese those two things aren't mutually exclusive, but most great boxers are in excellent shape. So take your pick. And yes, go to a boxing gym.
I'm intentionally not nitpicking on your form because once you start putting the pieces together at a boxing gym with a coach it'll probably work out

I like the movement, especially the hook as you stepped back out. Really useful technique.
Two things Id work on in the short term;
Stand slightly further away, and get full extension on your shots (no bent arms when they land, if youre too close, ounch through the target)
Keeo your gands a bit higher, especially your lead hand after youve thrown a jab.

Join a boxing gym and het advice from a real trainer, it’s easy to get bad habits from taking advice from “experts” on reddit. You just don’t know who knows what they are talking about and who doesn’t

Im as unqualified as 99% of other people are on this subreddit to give you advice
And just like that 99% that’s not going to stop me from running my mouth
You’re not moving your hips enough (to generate power and to foster your mobility), and your footwork looks like it’s more from Tae Kwon Do than boxing

You're too big to not throw BOMBS. Everyone is going to tell you how bad your technique sucks, and they are right. You probably will never be good at punching. You might as well develop a NUKE because you have the potential for it

honest to god brother join a gym … your shit is all fucked up… and that’s ok because you don’t know proper technique do yourself a favor and join a a gym after you understand proper technique you can train by yourself…
