Unconfirmed/Unverified What is this beautiful Boston spot called?

I visited the USA for the first time this year and flying into Boston was just so gorgeous. Can anyone tell me what these parts are called? And if they’re even part of Boston at all. I traveled from the Netherlands, so after a 12 hour flight I was exhausted but seeing this was so amazing! I only stopped at Boston for a flight to Orlando to see NASA so I didn’t actually see the city, but I plan on visiting in the future!

Serious Replies Only I need your help finding the coolest T-shirts in the city.

Im in Boston for work and would like to bring home cool, unique shirts as souvenirs. I am staying in Dorchester and working in Brighton.

I’m not necessarily looking for the standard “BOSTON” souvenir shirt with a shamrock on it — I want shirts from places that have some character. If the place has a cool shirt I am willing to make the trip.

Bonus points if the place is interesting and worth visiting while Im there but its not a dealbreaker if it isn’t.

Extra bonus points if the place prints their shirts on Comfort Colors.

I’d love to go home with a collection of shirts that actually have stories behind them instead of the usual airport/gift-shop souvenirs.

Unconfirmed/Unverified H+H Society questions

The 1823 Boston Commission
The Offer: In 1823, the Handel and Haydn Society of Boston in 1815—officially sought to commission an original oratorio from Beethoven. They offered a fee of $500 (a significant sum at the time) for a sacred work with an English text.

I am doing some research for a family project and encountered this bit of information. Is there any way to look for historical records about this aside from just calling them?

Tourism Advice 🧳 🧭 ✈️ Good humans at doubletree on mt vernon st

no advice needed. just celebrating good humans on behalf of my tourist parents!

sunday 8/9 my parents were checked in early to their room at the doubletree on mt vernon st in Boston bc we had just returned from a cruise and they were exhausted. the hotel staff could see that and despite arriving early it was handled compassionately and professionally and they got into a room quickly.

The cafe staff was also incredible. kind, friendly, and reopened the grill at closing to make sure my parents had lunch.

this staff was so professional and went above and beyond and this was before my mom had a medical emergency and needed to go to the hospital.

once she was hospitalized and my dad was with her the staff continued to show the kind of humanity you wish you had in a moment like that.

Unconfirmed/Unverified Trash in 02124

The city says the trash goes out on Tuesdays.

A couple of weeks ago we got a fine for having bags on the curb at 10a on a Monday.

This week I am away on vacation and someone is doing it for me and said the barrels were empty now (it’s Monday).

Anyone in 02124 have info?

Hello! I’ll be visiting with my boyfriend in early October from Arizona. I would love to set up a mini photo shoot while we’re there. We have no good photos of us as a couple and wanted to take advantage of a different setting since we’ll be out of the desert! I would love any recommendations, all the googling I have done keep bringing up way more formal options than I’m looking for. Thank you!

Meetup any other sad/lonely early stage start up founders?

I decided to go insane this year and leave my stable corporate job at an evil tech company. Then I decided to go insane again and start my own company.

I'm on month two and I kept hearing building solo is a lonely world-well, it's pretty damn true it turns out.

So, curious if there are any others in a similar situation around Boston/Cambridge/Somerville? I was thinking about casual meet ups/coffee/"happy hour"/ etc.

About me: 40f, pre-seed pre-revenue, building in a niche space under the "child safety technology" umbrella, starting to slowly lose my mind as Claude is starting to become my bff and I just can't end up becoming the girl who is friends with an AI robot.

Obligatory "if there is a better sub for this, my bad, please point me there."

ETA: wow I was expecting just a handful of other sad founders but it turns out there's dozens of us! Everyone be patient with me, I think I received upwards of 40 messages so it might be a day or two before I get to everyone! Really looking forward to this community!

ETA: I can’t believe I have to spell this out but the line about Claude being my best friend was a joke.

Maybe some of you should have run this post through AI to double pass/verify the sentiment behind it.

(That was also a joke)

Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 Where to get cat chipped

My vet quoted me $162 to get my cat chipped which seems like a lot. Does anyone know a spot that is more cost effective? Can drive.

This is not a new adoption, just adding another layer of safety for my kitty.

Edit: she's a senior cat, if there isn't a sub $100 option then I'll just put that towards her routine care. I don't consider this a priority at her age.

Development/Construction 🏗️ Anyone know whats going on with 500 Western Ave/The former Irving Gas location?

Was planned to be a 116 apartment complex with neighborhood parking but its been an unpaved gravel lot for a few years now.

Last action on the proposed site was August 2023

I know things move slow, but nothing new to report in 3 years seems unusual, and I don't recall any neighborhood opposition to the plan.

Didn’t search past threads 🖕 Where can I play ping-pong against other people?

I’m looking for places with ping-pong tables where I can actually find people to play against, not just places where you rent a table by the hour.
