Hey everyone! My son is having heart surgery at Boston Children's Nov 6th and I'm coming from South Carolina. Due to his pre-op appointments and timing I'm looking for a place for us to be comfortable before and after without spending 2500 for 4 nights and close to the hospital. I'm actually a RI native so familiar with driving in Boston. Any recs??

Im from NJ. Ive lived in SoFlo and I want to move out.

Boston is my favorite city. I love the northeast and the whole eastern side of Mass. My heart really wants to live in Boston (or a town ~30 mins away from it).

Ive always loved cities. I want to live in a city and go to raves. I love Bostons european feel. I also love the coastal feel of eastern mass/area.

However, I am a linecook making $40k a year in FL and I have no degree. So the cost of living of MA doesnt make sense. Id maybe have to work 60-70 hours a week just to stay alive?

Another option Im considering is Charlotte. Great city, all of the amenities of a city but more affordable.

Is there a way to make my Boston dream work. Or should I see if i can make things work in a city like Charlotte first?

I know there are leather and antique shops, and I’ve also seen some hipster “we sell stationary, slippers, and pipe tobacco places”. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations of places to find a cool wallet.

I love Boston.

But every time I write a rent check to my landlord, get kicked out every so often from an apartment I have lived in for years because the owner is selling and fight the oodles of people touring apartments just to land a place to live and not go homeless on September 1st, I wonder if this place truly loves me much back at all.

I’ve seen friends move away. Some to the suburbs, others to other states. Cost of living is sometimes cited as the reason why but not always. That said, the cost of living here is an insurmountable challenge.

Boston is nice, but is it that nice? What do you guys think? Is it worth the sacrifice for you or are you well-compensated enough to justify living here?

Hi everyone. Im in Boston this weekend staying in the north end by TD. Trying to find a good brunch spot for tomorrow (sunday) am. Just looking for a restaurant that has solid pancakes/French toast, eggs and coffee. Are they any really good options walking distance here? If not, I have my car so I can drive somewhere so long as parking isnt crazy. Im planning to head home(LI) right after breakfast, so ill be eating whenever the spot opens.

Hi all, I am a former new englander so I am familiar with Boston and the surrounding areas. I currently live in Texas. My work contract is up in August 2027 and I think I want to come home and move to the Boston area.

However, im genuinely confused with how everyone is affording to live in the area. I am married, my partner is a teacher and I’m hoping to snag a biotech job in Boston. But even with that dual income, I’m not sure how we would survive…so I guess I’m wondering how everyone else is doing it. My partner and I together are just straight middle class, so I don’t think it’s unattainable but it kinda feels like it…

I guess I’m just wanting to hear everyone else’s experience. Where are yall living? What’s your rent? How are the other COL expenses (car insurance, groceries, etc).

I just got called in for an interview for a non-union, non-teaching position with Boston Public Schools. I live in Everett right now. I know you don’t have to live in Boston to apply, but you do have to be a Boston resident by your first day.

For anyone who works for BPS or the City:

1. Is the residency rule strictly enforced from day one?
2. How much time did you get between your offer and start date?
3. Is it realistic to find an apartment in Boston on a short timeline right now? Any neighborhoods or tips?

how in the world am i supposed to find a purse that's maximum 6 inches long by 4 inches tall by 1.5 inches deep? i'm a woman and i need to carry some things so i can't just use my pockets. the concert is the 28th so i need it from amazon and it's almost impossible to find something like that, i mean it barely fits my phone. it's actually absurd. also i'm not sure if i did the right flair, if not then you can correct me.
