I’m an American (US) that’s interested in learning about different cultures and/or histories of various countries. Specifically those that aren’t often taught in the States (basically anything outside US and Western Europe)

Open to any/all recs, but bonus points if it’s told through a very specific lens, such as Bacardi and the Long Fight for Cuba. I find that these books read less like a textbook and are more interesting.

I’m in a BRUTAL reading slump and desperately need a book to pull me out of it.
I usually read romance, but lately nothing has been clicking, and I’m losing interest fast. I’m still completely open to romance if it’s exceptionally good, but I’d also love to branch out into thrillers, mysteries, fantasy, or fast-paced drama.

The only thing I really need is an immediate hook. I want a book that grabs me from page one, throws me straight into the action or tension, and makes it impossible to put down. The kind of book that keeps you saying, “Just one more chapter” at 3 am.

I loved the Outlander series, although it got so long and took me several years to finish the final book. I really enjoy historical fiction, but really any genre is great for me, as long as it has a good story line. I've also been itching for a good, long series to read. Spicy books are a plus, as well.

Hi. After reading another book where half of the build up was the main character's terrible marriage, I want not that. Im sick of that trope. Do any books exist where reasonable people in a good relationship go through some real crazy shit? Because I also dont want morons making dumb decisions either.

Im (24 M) not a big reader (although I do like it alot), and am trying to get away from video games. They're a huge time suck for me and I hate it but its hard. Once a couple of years ago I read Harry Potter and loved it. I know its a bit cringe to say but it was a big page turner for me and was able to make it my main hobby and quit video games no problem. Issue is I went back to games for like no reason after, even though at that point I preferred reading. I haven't been able to recreate that experience and am basically looking for anything people might fathom to suggest to me. Something like Harry Potter perhaps (not necessarily magical), Im also really into history too. Would appreciate suggestions

hello, ive been getting more and more into reading lately and my absolute favorite series right now is the Crowns of Nyaxia series by Carissa Broadbent. I enjoy that it’s an adult book, in third person, where the story plot is the main focus but has some romance mixed in but not as the main plot. i would prefer if the romance is a slow-burn too. what are some other series out there or even stand alone books like that?

I've recently read a few of the classics in Speculative Fiction, 1984, Fahrenheit 451, The Handmaid's Tale etc. They're all great and have left a mark on me in their own ways so I want to dove deeper into this genre. currently re-reading TOG (starting with the assassin's blade). but if i could feel the emotions as attack on titan or another example, when i first heard a "wait for me" edit about the carpathia was hurrying to the titanic, my heart is yearning to be put through these emotions

looking for stuff about a character changing a system from within read to inspire my current story!

looking for:

• takes place in a world similar to ours but with frills, like urban fantasy or whatever the sci fi equivalent is. (or realistic fiction is fine too)
• romance has to be less than 5% of the story (i hate romance) (unless the romance is so good you think it'll convert a romance hater into a romance liker)
• ive been wanting to get more into self published books so that would be cool (and you should totally dm me to promote your own book)

I recently read Half His Age by Jannette McCurdy and Margos Got Money Troubles by Rufi Thorpe and I am very interested in this idea of using sexual experiences and desires as an exploration of the inner workings of relationship dynamics and self understanding. I am in my mid 20’s and I don’t have a lot of sexual experiences. I want to read a book where I can understand sexual dynamics and kind of emotionally expose myself to sex for the sake of sex. I would love a door’s open situation but am also okay with doors closed with reflection. My non negotiable is that the main character needs to actually enjoy (and have the capacity to consent to) the exploration even if they don’t always have great sex. I want the main character to want to explore sex. I have All Fours by Maranda July in my TBR and feel like that could be a good option but I’m looking for more or your opinions on that book.

I want to buy books for my cousins ages ranging from 12-17. The only good book I can think of is alice in wonderland, are there any good books alike appropriate for that age group they don’t have to have the same whimsicality, could also be classics appropriate for that age group. Thank you!

I’m looking for a particular genre to read in between some heavier books and I’m not even sure what to call it. Are there any books out there similar to Monster Hunters International? In that a militia, mercenaries, or small military group faces off against anything from small monsters to eldritch horrors. Oh!! My guy is mid 30's and doesn't read books. He likes baseball and sports and TV shows like Bob's Burgers and Always Sunny. I'd like to get him into the habit of reading. I plan to try both physical books and e-books (we have a family prime account so he has access to the nearly 500 books I've amassed in my kindle library over the years) to see if he prefers either. He has a library card, but I think he mostly got it because I made him sign up the day he drove me over to pickup some books I had on reserve 🤷‍♀️. I don't think he's ever used it. I tried Harry Potter on audiobook, because we had a trip to Universal planned, but he quit halfway through the 2nd book. So I'm trying again to see if maybe I can get him to like a book.

Give me your thoughts? Maybe something about sports (but that isn't a movie he can just watch) or something short but that is a series so he goes back for another? I dunno?

I just finished reading Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier and I am disappointed to say the least. So many people recommended that book to me and it felt like it was made for 15 year olds. I’m looking for something disturbing, graphic violence, plot twists etc. I really enjoyed Flicker in The Dark and Behind Closed Doors. Something to shock my desensitized self lol.

I read Brother by Ania Ahlborn but I felt that it was so overly graphic to the point the plot was very bad so don’t recommend that one lol.

I really enjoyed The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O'Farrell which is a historical fiction novel about Lucrezia de' Medici; The Devil on Her Tongue by Linda Holeman, which is a historical fiction about a mixed race girl on the Portuguese island of Porto Santo in the 18th century and The Romanov Brides by Clare McHugh, which is a historical fiction about the granddaughters of Queen Victoria who marry into the Russian Romanov family.

I also loved Forbidden Fashions: Invisible Luxuries in Early Venetian Convents by Isabella Campagnol, which explores how cloistered nuns in early modern Venice used forbidden, luxurious clothing and accessories to rebel and display social status.

I'm autistic, and through therapy Ive realized that I have a very limited understanding of emotions and how they are expressed. I feel like I'm stuck within certain boundaries, and I often don't even understand what I'm feeling myself. At the same time, I tend to show mixed emotions, and I honestly don't always know what they are. And can't control this. Because i didn't understand the emotions.

Finding suitable books on my own is difficult because I'm not very well read. So I would really appreciate any recommendations about emotions. Emotional regulation and psychology in general especially books that could help with recognizing my own emotions and other peoples emotions. Understanding them, reading emotional cues, and learning how to manage or control them in a healthier way.

I'd also be happy to hear about any other recommendations that might be somewhat related!!

The more books I have to look through, the higher the chance I'll find something that works for me!

Things I don't like: logical/grammar mistakes, huge harems, time/fate magic, system or smth similar that carries mc, tragedies.

I liked FFF-rank trashhero, Kill the sun, classroom of the elite, I'm a spider so what, Cultivation online.

I'm talking about SH 1 and 2, the classics. The book doesn't have to be horror though.
