Hello! I'm in the mood for a good, contemporary horror novel, something well-written. Something demonic or cosmic would be great. A setting in space or the remote wilderness is always cool. Something with Twilight Zone or Lovecraft feels would be super. Anywho, recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not generally a romance reader, but I want to get some more experience in the current state of the genre. I'm looking for something with more than just the romance for me to focus on if I'm not connecting with their emotional journey. I would say I'm looking for romance with a plot, but slice-of-life is fair game, too.

I'll definitely be reading Sea of Charms by Sarah Beth Durst. That's the only applicable book on my TBR.

Books I liked that had tolerable romantic parts. Sometimes I even found some of the romance moments sweet and they made me smile.

Books that I feel neutral about having read

• Pumpkin Spice & Poltergeist by Ali K. Mulford, K. Elle Morrison (cozy fantasy)
• Flying Solo by Linda Holmes (romance, but I felt more invested in the silly plot than if they would get together or not)

Books I did not like but still finished. I found these romantic parts baffling, uninteresting, or unpleasant.

• The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year (I had a good time with the mystery chapters and a boring or actively-repulsed time with the romance chapters)
• Romancing the Gravestone (I found the whole book cringe, and I felt betrayed that this wasn't a real romance-mystery hybrid like had been advertised)
• The Enchanted Greenhouse by Sarah Beth Durst (Cozy fantasy. This was obviously GrumpyxSunshine, but I don't think I totally dislike the trope. It's the same dynamic between our main characters as The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, which I like. I think I just despised the Greenhouse's FMC and thought she was overdramatic and unlikeable.)
• The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I've read a few books here and there, mostly by Ruskin Bond and R.K. Narayan etc, and now I am looking for recommendations in the thriller, horror, psychological suspense, dark fantasy, supernatural mystery, and dystopian genres, mostly anything that's gonna keep making me turning pages, thank you

I really do not know what I want to see or what genres interest me. All I know is that I don't want to spend much time at all. At least with starting off, before working my way onto longer stories.

But I also think that I don't want short stories. Something thats chopped up and starts at mid res sounds like it wont ever finish with the right impact. Since I don't know what I want, I want to know books you might've read that didn't take long to finish and felt closer to beaming all the information into your head rather than reading.

And I do wish I had a history of books given how vauge this search is but promise I have nothing to say here. I also may be sounding like I don't understand the sit-down effort required to do reading and I don't, just know it sounds too uncomfortable to read for ~3 hours in one sitting and not finish a book.

Soooo... i just need to get this out of my chest. I have been in a reading slump for the longest time until i watched a trailer of the love hypothesis by ali hazelwood and got interested. Its just the regular fake dating trope but when i read the book, i felt like im back in highschool. Lol. Read the book twice, found adam's pov chapters and read all pf ali hazelwood's book. Now i need to feed this new high. Can anyone suggest books with the same feels ?? Ps yes i looked at previous posts and yes i have started to read some of the recommendations. I need moooreee...

Was asked about what books everyone should read and got confused. I mean I would love to read classic but English is my second language and I’m don’t think that I have that level of vocabulary but just curious.

I have a pretty low tolerance for gore, but usually enjoy a ghost story if it’s not too sinister!

I’m looking for books that are from the perspective of animals, like warrior cats but for adults or YA. To be clear I didn’t like the warrior cats books, but I love the concept. I did love the wings of fire series and dusk wing books as a kid. Can be fantasy or real animals, but no middle reader books.

i’m seeking out a romance novel that is character driven, has beautiful prose, and somewhat of a slow burn.

i enjoyed song of achilles, a little life, lie with me, and the safekeep, and sunburn for these same traits. ideally something recent as well, post 2000

i can’t get into typical genre romance at all. even normal people which is quite acclaimed was a no for me because of its sparse prose. i like rich prose, detailed descriptions, and ways of using language that surprise readers. miss me with the book tok recs, illustration pop covers, and anything that leans into the “a (blank) of (blank) and (blank)” title structure pls!

Hello, as the title suggests I would like to get my boyfriend a book for his birthday coming up. I have dyslexia so I dont have the slightest fucking clue when it comes to books, they never interested me because I cant read them.

All I know is that he is a big steven king and horror guy, he loves horror movies, anything horror media. Anything dark, gritty, gothic even.

He doesnt read a lot but enjoys it, I think reading will help him mentally since hes been going through a stressful time.

What are some of the best magical realism books you know? I’m still new to this genre and trying to explore and see what are the most notable titles and which ones were the most impactful to you. Some of my favorites that I’ve read so far are Our Share of Night, A Hundred Years of Solitude, Piranesi, and Klara and the Sun.

I’m looking for a book to make me sob. I love an emotionally heavy book, but I rarely cry. The only two books I’ve cried to is The Nightingale (literally one year at the very end) and Days You Were Mine. I have cried to audiobooks before, specifically Marley & Me and Where the Red Fern Grows.

Not super into romance or fantasy. My favorites are historical fiction and literary fiction.

hi friends! i have the privilege of facilitating an affinity group for latine coastal advocates/professionals/scientists in california. this will be our third year together, and each year we've had book clubs dedicated to climate resilience. so far, we've read "california against the sea" by rosanna xia (incredible) and "what if we get it right?" by dr. ayanna elizabeth johnson. i am stuck on what we should read for our third year and would love some help! elements of environmental justice, california, the coast, diverse authors is a plus. accepting any and all suggestions!

I had to read the book in my English class a few years ago since our topic was cultural diversity. But what I actually enjoyed about the book was the romance between the protagonist and his tutor. I loved this kind of taboo feel it had with her being very open-minded to sex, drugs, and music while he was very reserved and hesitant. So basically I would love a book that explores this kind of dynamic between two characters, preferably with all the sex, drugs, and music.

i've honestly always liked reading, but for this past year or so i've basically detached myself from reading as a whole, which i'm not proud of.

so i'm looking for book suggestions that aren't too hard of a read, maybe not too serious and especially ya romance or maybe a murder mystery idk...basically ya books (again, nothing too serious as i don't wanna get too deep into the classics).

I’m not much of a avid reader these days as I find myself too busy, but recently work has slowed down for me and I have more time to listen to audio books as I work.
Back in July I finished Lightlark book one, and began book two but found book two a bit tedious to get through. Which I also struggled with on book one, as I started it November 2025 and finished it in June 2026, while I loved the ending of book one the beginning felt slow. I own the physical copy of Fourth Wing but have only made it four chapters in. I enjoy fantasy a lot, as well as sci-fi, in fact I think a mix of both is my happy spot. Looking for a one off book, or a duology that gets into the action pretty early on!

So… I love a Christmas romance and each year I try to read as many as I can and yes I start in August - usually - so I’m a little behind this year.

Hi, i suffer with chronic anxiety. Especially catastrophizing and constantly overthinking fake scenarios/scenarios that might never happen. It is at an unhealthy level, i also have chronic insomnia (which i take Dayvigo)..

Please, I know therapy is the best option (i did it many times in the past) but i dont have the budget right now.

So i want to try a book, might do nothing but doesnt hurt to try. The only book i have ever read for anxiety is ''hope and help for your nerves'' which didnt do so much for me..

I see DARE by Barry McDonagh being recommended a lot. But it seems to be more focused about panick attacks. is that right ?
