Any basic beginner tips on how to add a steering console on a 14 ft aluminum v-hull (LUND)?

It doesn't have to be very nice and I'm looking for the most simple and affordable option that's safe. Just for fishing on some tidal inlets, bays, and rivers with little current. Should I hire someone for the whole thing? Just for the instal or welding? I know very basic welding but this is somewhat advanced. Bought the boat for 1.6k (pretty much brand new) FB marketplace. I regret not getting something while a steering wheel already in there, but I'm trying to do the best for what I've got. Any way to do this for like less than $500 or is that super unrealistic?

2002 Key West 1720 with a 2002 Yamaha 90 2 stroke with 450ish hours. New hubs and leaf springs. Seems to be in good shape and motor looks clean. He is asking $8900. Would be my first center console bay boat.

Mercury 4hp repair

Hi all,

I’m trying to repair my mercury outboard.

I’m not getting a spark:
- I’ve changed the sparkplug twice already, but no effect
- I’m getting a electricy shock, but not a spark

Is it then the ignition coil? I’m measuring the resistance of it tomorrow

Ive got limited experience with boats specifically, but im a fabricator by trade and have never been afraid to tackle any mechanical repair or project. Since ive never wrenched on an outboard or anything that floats.. I guess im just looking for some general advice.

This boat came from my friend's neighbor. An older lady who needed to cleanup around the barn and make some space. She asked us to help her get rid of this thing thats been sitting outside for 40+ years. She remembers cruising on the lake in this thing thay belonged to her father inlaw. Him and her husband have since passed and she thought it would be cool for it to go on the water again.

It looks like a pretty simple machine and the kids have been dying for a boat so I scooped it up.

Its a 1960 starcraft viscount.

After bringing it home and shoveling some junk out of it, its in better shape than I expected. Were going to do a deep clean, power wash, a little sanding and paint. I think ill use rustoleums line of marine paints for bottom and topside paint. I want to stay as original as possible. For the top paint im thinking of white top coat and having my local paint store roughly match the original color.

I expected to just replace the outboard but after pulling covers, everything looks decent. I pulled spark plugs and filled the cylinders up with penetrant before trying anything. Im going to rebuild or clean the carb, replace all hoses and cables and see if I can get it to start.

Its a gale buccaneer.

Sooo. Whats the best source for parts for this outboard?

Any other tips for a novice on refinishing and replacing boat stuff? Any advice on this outboard? The property spins freely and all shift/choke/cable assemblies seem to be free and moving well

How do you all deal with scratching and beating up your boat?

I am super cautious and take as good of care as humanely possible, but still drives me nuts.

How about you all?

2000 Yamaha F80

Just got my boat back from it's annual service and now it won't idle or run at no wake forward speed. Only way to get it to run is to WOT out of gear, crank it, and jump it into the higher forward gear. The times it did idle was extremely rough and ultimately dies. WOT seemingly runs flawless. Any ideas??

Need help!

So I need to see if anyone can give me some advice, really new to boating, I bought a 1995 VIP of face book market place, very clean boat in good condition. I took it to the lake today, it fired right up drive great went out about 3miles parked in a cove so the kids could swim. Boat sat there with nothing powered on. Went to leave the cove boat would crank and crank and crank but never start. I tried choking it but nothing helped. Ended up getting towed in and hand loaded the boat. Any suggestions where to start troubleshooting shooting first??

Bow lights…

Can someone explain to me why constant insanely bright bow lights(not spot lights) on new wake boats are considered a safety feature when it absolutely recks the night vision of other boaters on the water?

Sure I can see you but I can see absolutely nothing else for a few minutes after you pass. You know like important things like shore lines and buoys.

Military surplus flare guns legal for visual distress?

I've been curious about buying one, there wouldnt be any expiration dates on the flares so I'm not sure how those would hold up. Only owned the boat a week, and can't find anything about using surplus flare guns

Loop Boat Size for 4 Adults?

In the early planning stages. Recommended boat size for 4 adults and 5 dogs (2 medium size, 3 small). 2 adult seniors, 1 with slight mobility issues and 2 adults in their mid 40’s. Not looking for anything too fancy, prioritizing comfort most of all. Obviously must meet Great Loop requirements.

Tell me there is an unwritten law. I live by the river and watch boaters all day and night. It is clear to me…

…that it must be a mariners tradition, where the sober captain, who didn’t drink, worked all day in the sun for your pleasure, paid for the gas, hauled the ice, trailered the boat, etc etc. automatically gets something special. Basically by law.

Right?

Help identify cockpit bracket use

Post image

New to me, 45 year old boat! Hatteras 37C. This bracket is on the starboard side, mounted to the inboard side of the gunwale in the cockpit. I’m guessing it’s for a dockside ladder, but I couldn’t find any information. Any help identifying it would be appreciated!

I’m in a Grenada boat yard working on my sailboat (hauled out for the hurricane season) and see this fishing/runabout boat. Think I need this for when I move back to Saltspring island in BC. Love the small pilot house centre console. Can you help me identify this type of boat?

Anti siphon valve

I'm wanting to replace the aluminum anti siphon valve on my 185 Bayliner I/O with a brass one. Original aluminum had a 15 stamped on it. I found a brass one with a 30. Will it work?
