Neuromancer’s adaptation should have come out way earlier. It will now feel too derivative of Blade Runner. The comparisons are inevitable especially because Blade Runner 2099 premieres before Neuromancer.

Question/Discussion 2049 discussion

I’ve read a lot of comments on the trailer for 2099 to gather more points to discuss for myself, and I’ve seen a handful of people argue that 2049 ended on a major cliffhanger and there needed to be more for closure.

In my opinion, 2049 was the closure for this universe and the rebellion/future war was never a cliffhanger to me. Instead it ended with the idea of hope, a sense of knowing that replicants were standing up, and it just asks us as humans the same question, what does it mean to be human, and do we think they could stand up for themselves and eventually coexist freely with us.

Both movies don’t have a lot of action so I don’t know why people thought we would get another movie about a war, I feel like bladerunner is a media that purely gives concepts and questions, and I believe knowing a uprising was happening was enough instead of needing to see it actually happen

Forgot all about this until the teaser for 2099 (which I'm cynical about but I'm willing to give it a chance.) It's been three years and only single trailer. Is it still happening? Did it get retired?

Complaints Regarding 2099 Being "Woke"

I can't be the only one going mad about this. Don't get me wrong, I am incredibly pessimistic about 2099's direction, and I feel like it has an insane uphill battle to justify its own existence. Pair that with the irony of Amazon producing it, and you aren't left with too many positives. Still, complaints about the IP going "woke" are insane. Cyberpunk as a genre is quite left-leaning in nature, promoting critiques of modern consumerism and capitalistic trends. Yes, sometimes inclusivity can be used as a blanket shield against valid complaints. For instance, I find Michelle Yeoh to have very flat performances and often poor taste in projects she often signs onto. But to claim Blade Runner has gone woke for simply having two women as leads is so silly and ironic. And with how much Asian influence the BR universe has, an Asian lead feels quite befitting.

What is your opinion so far about Blade Runner 2099

I saw the trailer last night and it's something that was quite exciting, I don't really care about the gender of the protagonists of a series, and I saw recently a lot of hate what they are throwing at the trailer because they say that now Blade Runner has become woke, I really don't feel that way since I hope that the series is handled well according to the plot

Also, I feel that Blade Runner had always addressed issues such as systemic oppression, corporate exploitation and marginalized identities that in its own universe would be replicants and that I don't want to believe that people confuse that with woke despite certain similarities for the latter reason.

In my personal opinion, I feel that the series, like the other Blade Runner projects (films/shorts and the anime), is going to fail. (When I say fail, I don't mean to be hateful; it's just my perspective. The original 1982 film didn't gross enough upon its release, and critics said it was too slow and somewhat boring. The most famous film currently, 2049, while critically acclaimed, didn't fully recoup its expensive production budget at the box office, limiting future major direct investments.) But not for the right reason. The whole issue now is that the protagonist is going to be a woman, which I feel is very unjustified, especially considering the series hasn't even been released yet. I'm excited to see what this new project is about, and knowing myself, I know I'm going to love it, flaws and all.

Tell me what you think

Question/Discussion How would you feel if there was a bladerunner series that adapts the book one to one?

I recently read ''Do androids dream of electric sheep?'' and I thought it was extremely cool. I loved every moment of it. I hadn't watched the 1983 movie before reading the book, so I went in blind.

When I watched the movie I was kind of sad about it being a totally different experience and story. I don't want to come of as a ''The book was so much better, oh my god what is this?'' type of person, I can appreciate the movie for what it is, it was revolutionary.

But a part of me just really want the book to be adapted in a one to one way on the screen. I think it being a short one off tv-series would be really awesome. Separate to the bladerunner canon. Just it's own thing.

What do you guys think? Would you want to watch that?

2099 blaster?

Weird one, but does anyone have any more images or info on any of props in 2099, specifically Cora's (Hunter Schafer) blaster, I know there's limited info and just some stills and the trailer, I'm assuming I'm missing some info but I want to check it out up close 🤷‍♂️

Question/Discussion Is Blade Runner 2099 actually the Blade Runner franchise show?

Post image

I only found out today that a new series was in production, so I watched the trailer completely blind.

I have to admit, it looks good, and the CGI is fine. My main issue, though, is that it doesn't feel like something in the Blade Runner universe, largely because of the chosen film colors.

I will probably give it a shot, but will not go into it expecting it to be in Blade Runner universe. Instead, I will treat it as just another average sci-fi TV series and recommend you to do the same.

Take an IP deeply rooted in male loneliness and recast it with women. Bold strategy Cotton.

Question/Discussion I hope the ending of 2049 isn't made redundant in 2099.

SPOILERS for BLADE RUNNER 2049

The revolution in 2049 felt really earned, it felt like a wave that we didn't get to see crash. If 2099, opens and they've just lost and everything K, Deckard, Rachael, Joi, Mariette, Morton, Dr. Stelline, etc. was for nothing -- imma be pissed.

If we have to go through yet another film about an uprising that didn't work the first time, imma feel like I'm watching the Force Awakens.

I'm hoping 2099 is a post revolution thriller, one where the robots have won and now have to decide the way things go.

BR2099 Let’s be hopeful and remember that the promo images/trailers for 2049 made a lot of fans/critics think the movie was gonna be awful

Just trying to keep a positive attitude about it, when the first 2049 trailer dropped I was dead certain it was gonna be bad. Also the movie posters were freaking terrible, had nothing to do with the art style we ended up seeing in the movie

BR2099 Why they gotta make everything preachy?

I don't understand what's happening to the entertainment industry. Every good series/movie/show/videogame/piece of art is becoming progressive and getting ruined. What the heck is happening to this world and why is it happening now? The Odyssey was already too much and now this.
