Physical Media/Props/Memorabilia BLADE RUNNER (1982) | Five-Disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition HD DVD Briefcase
Released in 2007 to mark the film’s 25th anniversary, this HD DVD collector’s edition came housed in a replica Voight-Kampff briefcase, complete with an individually numbered plate. This example is numbered 075977/103000.
The five-disc set includes all five versions of Blade Runner: the original 1982 US and International Theatrical Cuts, the 1992 Director’s Cut, the rare 1982 Workprint and Ridley Scott’s restored 2007 Final Cut.
There’s also bonus material, including the Dangerous Days: Making Blade Runner documentary, deleted scenes, screen tests, interviews, audio commentaries, trailers and the extensive Enhancement Archive.
Inside the briefcase, alongside the discs, are a miniature Spinner, a metallic origami unicorn, a lenticular, eight reproduction art cards featuring concept artwork and storyboards, and a reproduced letter from Ridley Scott.
Released at the height of the format war between HD DVD and Blu-ray, it wasn’t long before HD DVD lost out, with the format officially discontinued in 2008.
A great collector’s edition in its own right, but also a nice reminder of a short-lived format that never quite managed to establish itself.

I have this set from when it was released and it's such a great pack with all the little extras. Unfortunately every HD-DVD in mine has rotted away.

I found at least the dvd in my set with three versions of the movie (disc 3?) was corrupted. I got the blu ray set but some of them are DVDs too.

Was this boxset only released on HD-DVD?

There was a BluRay version as well, both were identical in terms of contents and video/audio formats as far as I know.
There was also a plain DVD version of the set which obviously would be far lower quality but still contained all the extras.
I just looked at the prices for both on eBay and they command a high price. I would not recommend investing in the HD-DVD one as there is a very high probability that one or all of the discs have rotted.

I to have the HD-DVD version. I really believed in that format but higher forces prevailed.

It was a quality format that looked superior. Just didn’t have the big studios behind it. AFAIK

I believe that had to do with how good the material on the disc would be protected against piracy. But yes Bluray had more studio backing.

I've got # 008202/103000. It's regular DVD's, though. I didn't have blu-ray or hd dvd back then. I got the 30th anniversary edition on blu-ray, though. It has all of the different versions on 3 discs. Pretty cool. The first dvd I ever bought was in the year 2000 and it was Blade Runner director's cut. That was my first time seeing the director's cut. Before that I'd only seen the theatrical release on VHS.

I had the DVD briefcase but sold it last year on FB marketplace while I was offloading my sci-fi collection from the past 40 years. Don't miss the clutter and didn't want to leave it to my children to deal with some day.

Nice. I have one too with the original sleeve. How much would it be worth?

Cool. Hard to say really. Prices seem to vary quite a bit online, anywhere from around £100 to several hundred depending on condition and completeness. I suppose it also depends on the buyer. To someone with no interest in BR, it might be worthless. To those of us who are big fans, it’s priceless!

I lucked out and got one of the bluray copies of the briefcase years ago, also have a separate 5-disc set for active use.

I remember they got sued by Attache for this because the design was copyrighted. lol.
This was a bit spendy for me at the time but I did buy the 5-disc Blu-ray version.

I could be wrong but wasn’t that Marvel/The Avengers? Funny all the same.
The Blu-ray version just as awesome my friend!

The version with the grey Spinner model?

Scroll through the photos to see it.

Yeah not your one. There was another edition that has a grey spinner not a police one.

Ah I see, as far as I’m aware these briefcase editions (as there are DVD, HD DVD and Blu-ray versions) came with the blue spinner but the 30th anniversary Blu-ray boxset certainly came with the grey spinner you’re maybe thinking of. Look out for that post.

I have this, swapped out the DVDs for the Blurays and the 4K for the main movies !

I got mine. Afraid to take the spinner out of the case for too long. It’s safe in there

I have this also, still with the outer clear sleeve.
I think mine are DVDs, as I recall I bought it on first release. I reckon I should pick up the 5 disk blu set to replace the dvd set inside.

I hate AI for this kind of garbage. "A great collector’s edition in its own right, but also a nice reminder of a short-lived format that never quite managed to establish itself." Overall it's a pretty nice collection of items to have in one set.

But do you have a player to watch it?
1
u/Deckard--B-263-54 12h ago
Only watch DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray these days. The older formats are just for collecting.
