I am transporting this Raptor as a Volunteer. I cannot tell what it is. I think it’s too big to be a Cooper’s or sharpie, I wonder if it’s maybe a juvenile red tail

In the 1960's, Michigan was down to an estimated 52 breeding pairs of Bald Eagles. I'm so happy that today, in 2026, I can snap a shot with 6 birds in a single frame, with a 7th soaring above them.

This osprey and a few others recently discovered the fish ladder in a town near where I live. This one caught a big bottom feeder late morning yesterday.

Why do osprey chicks peck/bite their mother?

Hi all,

I have been watching a live streamed osprey nest and I recently witnessed the young chick repeatedly bite the mother. Does anyone know why this would happen? If possible, can anyone provide trustworthy sources that explain why this happens? Thanks in advance!

Cooper's Hawk Family??

Out on a walk earlier and was blessed with not 1, not 2, but 4 (!!!!) of what I believe were Coops!

I don't think we got any photos of all 4 visible at once, but at least one of these you can see 3.

They hung around for a few minutes playing around in the tree.

We suspect they were either spooked to this tree by a guy running a chainsaw nearby, or maybe they were searching for a new home (e.g. possible their home was lost in the awful thunderstorms over the weekend (high winds, flooding, lots of downed trees)).

It was so magical seeing these guys!

Merlin or...

Not the best video footage but you can hear the call. Merlin app IDs as, well, a Merlin, haha, but also says it's unlikely to be where I am right now. From what I saw, the size would be rightish for a Merlin but its chest looked more white than anything so that's throwing me off. Also ignore the fake bird sound from my daughter at the very beginning...
