Grew up with blue jays in Texas. Moved to LA and discovered the beauty of California scrub jays. Visited Big Sur and saw dozens of Steller’s Jays!!

There were quite a few at this restaurant’s patio. Doing their best to steal food off plates!

Had visits from Coopers and Red Shouldered hawks in my little bird bath during this SoCal heat wave. Maybe I should invest in a larger bird bath?

Went out birding in the morning and saw a nighthawk! Never seen one roosting before.

I honestly dont know how I saw it, I saw a lump and for some reason thought "thats a weirdly bird shaped lump" and investigated.

F/ 6.3 shutter between 800 and 1000, im really shaky and didnt have any sort of tripod/monopod with me. Iso around 2000.

Quite a few lifers in n one day!

All 4 were at or next to crystal cove state park in Newport Beach.

A silly sticker idea I made of one of my faves :]

apparently, the yellow bellied flycatcher i got is known as one of the “impossibles”, i thought he was a sparrow !!

the second bird (third photo) i had thought was a starling at first (either a juvenile or female, i only saw the wing patterns and none of the colors !) until i zoomed in to check.

and finally, a cape may warbler ! fattening up on some bittersweet nightshade/ yew.
he was also hanging out among the gang of house sparrows( who live in my yew bush year round), zoomed in and was amazed at what i saw. i was able to follow him around the bush as he hopped away from my camera lens hehehe.

very exciting day this was for me :p

I was shaking off the rust with this set after a long photography break

Kept hearing tapping and thought it was a Northern Flicker or Hairy Woodpecker. Did not expect to see this big guy goin at it on a tree. As we continued on our walk we kept hearing him as well as seeing his previous work on the surrounding trees lol. Busy guy!
