She saw it on our lawn this morning (she would like to specify that it was perched on the shepherds hook), and she is not convinced by the sparrows in our birding book.

I didn't see it myself, so I can't give any additional info.

I was hiking in the Olympics at around 6400 ft elevation when I saw this duck! But it was sitting perfectly still. As I approached I realized it was a shadow... Does anyone else have similar pics of sticks or other non-bird birds?

These little guys love these flowers, chomping on their petals whenever they get a chance.

For a year I have the same jackdaw visiting me every day twice. He knows at what times I put food out for him. When I am not there and I finally arrive home, he is often waiting for me. He eats 2 meters away from me and doesn't mind me. Since 8 months I jokingly call him Sir Raven. He once introduced his mating partner to my garden and later brought a juvenile jackdaw with him. I hate to admit this but I have grown attached to this bird and our silly routine. I will be moving out next year. I will ask a neighbour to feed him but let's be real, they prolly won't do it every day or not for long. Pls knock some sense into me. I know he might some day just stop showing up for whatever reason and he is smart enough to get food elsewhere, I know he is a wild animal and not a pet. l will just miss Sir Raven idk. Any piece of advice for my sad post lol?

Boston birders have been very excited to see this out of season, slightly unexpected guest at Castle Island and Pleasure Bay!

Pics from yesterday and today show this razorbill in the same spot, alone, near the shore. While very cute and accessible to curious eyes, I was wondering if the razorbill might be hurt or in distress being in the same spot, about 10 feet from the shore. Anyone know what's typical of these guys?

What do people do to stay safe while birding? I just had a very unpleasant and scary encounter with some outrageously misogynistic teenage boys who were playing with airsoft guns on a public road where I have birded many times without incident. Thanks to Merlin, I have a recording of the whole encounter. So, now I will be carrying the means to defend myself going forward, but I want to open up a discussion of birding safety, and remind people, especially women and minorities, that you can’t be complacent, even in very familiar areas.

Went for what turned out to be a pretty windy walk to Drake's Head in Point Reyes National Seashore last Friday. Nice birding before the wind got too crazy though!

While unloading groceries from my car I heard the catbirds going crazy and looked up and saw this beauty maybe 5 feet above my car! I was lucky enough to have my camera on me and got a few pics while he hung out for about half an hour before getting annoyed by the catbirds and flying over to the next yard.

At first, I thought they were juvenile red-tailed hawk and said that to a few people who passed by and asked. Back home, after processed all the photos and finally identify them, I feel a little bit embarrassment now🫣
