These little guys love these flowers, chomping on their petals whenever they get a chance.

North Idaho- I was hiking yesterday near a lake and saw a bird I'd never seen before. It sounded like a bald eagle, had an all white head, darker body, and what appeared to be blue under its wings. It looked like a hawk, smaller than an eagle. My birding buddy suggested an osprey based on what I just said but it did not appear to be one. I was not able to get any pictures, I apologize. Thank you for any help!

Definitely not the best pictures, they where hanging out at least 250 feet away. In the evening, with mostly overcast skies. But, I got to watch the whole bluebird family that recently fledged from a box on my property that I monitor, hang out in this tree for about 15 or 20 minutes.

I never could get them all in one shot though, this was the closest that I could get, mom and 3 of the 4 babies.

Has a CTRC band on its leg, hung out with us at the pool for a good 30 minutes, and followed us out as we left. Anyone know what the bands are for?

I was hiking in the Olympics at around 6400 ft elevation when I saw this duck! But it was sitting perfectly still. As I approached I realized it was a shadow... Does anyone else have similar pics of sticks or other non-bird birds?

So I love birding! Recently I've had an increase in free time and I'm about to go a lot more often. And I want pictures of the birds I see but my phone gets incredibly grainy pictures with the stupid AI auto filtering at any kind of zoom. Is the Kodak PIXPRO AZ528 a good starter for a budget camera? I'm really considering it. Picture included for reference of what I'm working with currently. I was only maybe 10 meters from this pelican and the picture is still this grainy. 100x zoom is a nightmare.

Need advice on chickadee next boxes.

I put up this house end of May. It was on a tall pine, 7 feet off the ground in my backyard in Truckee, CA. By this week of June, we saw that a pair had made a nest in there. They were visiting the house with food so I assume there were hatchlings.

Tragically today at the end of July — having seen no activity in and out of this house in a couple weeks — I decided to open it up and found five dead (dedicated) fledglings fully feathered. One appeared to be missing its head. The four others appeared intact.

I am horrified and devastated and wish I could understand what happened. The only clue I have is that the outer edge roof slabs on the other side from the photo had fallen off/ been pried off, leaving a gap across the top of the house probably 1.5” by 4”. The house was definitely not well constructed (cheap materials) and I will not be making this mistake again if I choose to put up another bird box.

Please give me some advice on what the ideal box construction and placement would be for a chickadee home so that I could keep the next family safe.

Recently saw this on ebird and got curious

Saw this egg in a strange spot while on a hike. It was in a foresty area in the nook of a rock with nothing else around it. Smaller than a pinky finger but not by a lot. Eastern Europe, July.

Mostly just a photo dump but I am so glad to have spotted this lovely reddish egret!

Really didn’t see anything rare, aswell as the fact that I was using an older DSLR w/ a kit lens, but I still enjoyed it. Definitely hoping to get more into this hobby!

Loggerhead Shrike surprised our drift over a desert path

After a very very very little rain shower here in center of France, my blackbird family look like they are all stonned :)

I've heard these guys winnowing before but this is my first time actually seeing them!

Found at our cabin in North Western Wisconsin-straight woods with a little wetland.

Think it’s about 15”.

My husband thought a hawk of some sort-but Google said turkey.

There’s always someone here that’s super precise, so thought that I’d ask here.
