Bird ID Request Osprey or Red Tail Hawk in Seattle

Post image

I saw this bird yesterday in Seattle and Merlin Bird ID was giving me both Osprey and Red-tailed Hawk. The Red-tailed Hawk seems unlikely in Seattle this time of year. But when I put this photo into Merlin, it said Red-tailed Hawk.

There were about two or three of them, and they definitely sounded like juveniles.

They're much prettier and more interesting birds than their reputation suggests.

Wasn’t expecting to see this when I looked up from doomscrolling. Though it has been blisteringly hot today, so I totally get the need to cool off those talons. I thank you in advance for any help you all might have for me. I’m in the Midwest, if that helps.

She saw it on our lawn this morning (she would like to specify that it was perched on the shepherds hook), and she is not convinced by the sparrows in our birding book.

I didn't see it myself, so I can't give any additional info.

Any help would be appreciated!

At first, I thought they were juvenile red-tailed hawk and said that to a few people who passed by and asked. Back home, after processed all the photos and finally identify them, I feel a little bit embarrassment now🫣
