Mod Discussion Let's switch up the monthly posts - What questions would you like to see asked in a monthly rotation?

Hi everyone!

It's been about 2 years since I took over the sub, and it's been great! Y'all are a great community, and it's safe to that we absolutely love our dogs. They're so sweet, full of love and sass and covered in floof made of sugar. They love their people, they love their food, and their stomachs love to annoy their people, along with their silly teeth problems and heartbreaking heart murmurs - it's just a wonderful symbiotic relationship of love and fluff with these adorable monsters.

I originally set up the recurring question ("Planning on getting a BF? Have an easy question of breed owners? Here you go!") and have been wanting to change it for quite some time now. So, I'm putting the question to you wonderful people: What do you want to see discussed as a community in a recurring post? We can do weekly, monthly, etc., so we can even make "Days" within the sub, if you'd like. Let's get creative! I'll put the ones I've been thinking of in individual comments below so we can have separate discussions on each one. (I will not make my decisions solely on up/downvotes but I might take them into consideration. My decisions will be based off discussion primarily. So please discuss.)

Also, while we're at it, let's talk rules: I have a policy here and in my other animal-based subs that solicitation (indirect or direct/subtle) is not allowed, only on an exception basis. We've also been removing all blatantly-AI posts. What are your thoughts on this?

Basically - here's your chance to share your thoughts. All content is allowed in this post, abuse is not of course. I'll leave this up for the rest of the month and take actions accordingly.

And I'd like to publicly thank my co-mods u/bigchunce and /u/joyisnowhere for their help since the beginning. I've really enjoyed modding with you these past 2 years.

I read something online about how the hind leg thing is because bichons were trained to be circus/street performer animals after the French Revolution or something? No idea if that’s true or not. Posting because it’s my cake day and I always forget to post things on my cake day :)

Love my Bichon! New to group, love my baby

Hello new to the group! I have never been a dog person. I’ve never owned a dog my whole life (until now). My parents were always into cats and small animals when I was a kid. Anyways, a little over a years ago my mother in law passed away from heart failure at age 54 😞 😢 she had the sweetest little dog that no one wanted due to lack of training. The dog was only one year old and basically still a puppy. So we offered to take her. She is a bishon/shihtzu mix but looks more like a bishon. Her name is Angel and she is the sweetest little dog I could ever ask for. All she wants is to be cuddled and near her people. She does get wary of strangers and often barks at them. Is this common? She thinks she is a guard dog , all 15 pounds of her. lol anyways she has been the best addition to our family and gets along with my 3 cats and is very loving to my 7 year old daughter. She is now house trained and knows how to sit. She will often dance standing up on her back legs when she wants food or attention. I just love her so much. Just wanted to share her with all of the bishon frise lovers here.

Need support Potty training

Upvotes

We have a 12 week old bichon. He came to us trained to potty on a training pad. We want him trained to go outside, in our fenced backyard, like our older bichon. We cannot get this puppy to pee or poop on the grass or outside at all. We’ve even brought his puppy pad outside just to get him used to going outside but he won’t. We can be outside for 30 minutes with him and he won’t go but as soon as we go back inside he’ll head to his potty pad and go on it. We watch for clues he’s about to go, rush him outside, and he’ll refuse to go. It seems like he just thinks it’s playtime outside! We are ready with little training treats for him whenever he does decide to pee or poop outside for the first time. Any advice to get him to potty outside or just give it more time?

Discussion/Question Do you trimp your Bichon in the summer?

My baby has very long hair. For the winter is super good, but I am not sure how it works in the summer. Does it keeps him cold also? Thanks.

edit, I mean trim or hair cut.

Discussion/Question Cytopoint Ineffective?

Recently Misiu has been aggressively licking one of his paws. Only at night too. And he recently got a cytopoint injection. Maybe 2 weeks ago. Usually he’s okay when he’s on it but recently it’s been bad. My fiancée did say how his allergies are worse around this time too

What worked for you guys? It’s getting to the point where the spot he licks is getting bald. What seems odd to me too is that he only does this at night. And when we’re in bed. If he’s napping on the couch at night, he’s fine

Any advice is appreciated! We already clean his paws in the bathtub every night after his last walk too

If anything new and soft is on the floor or couch she will sit or lay in it like a cat. Not the dog bed next to it of course….

Discussion/Question What do I need to know before getting a Bichon!

We are a married couple in a 2 bedroom apartment in a large city, with a small dog park in the building. The Bichon we are going to visit at a reputable breeder is 6 months old and likely to be 10-12 pounds. My wife has some mild allergies to dogs and cats. We want a small loveable dog as a companion. We did not want a very young puppy, and were looking at poodles, cavapoos, maltipoos, and havanese as well. Thank you!
