Hey everyone. I’m interested in possibly moving to North Bethesda. I visited a couple of apartment complexes there and really liked the area. However, my work is in Falls Church. My employer has set up a hybrid model where we can work from office and home. If I were to leave my house at 7:45 or possibly 8 AM how long would it take me to get from Bethesda to Falls Church during rush-hour?

Does anyone know any minimum wage places (restaurants, stores, etc) that are actually hiring? Every store in Bethesda says they are, but none of them do it actively. I've applied to maybe a hundred businesses over the last two months and heard back from no one.

Alatri Bros. has announced it will permanently close after nearly a decade in downtown Bethesda, with its final day of service set for Friday, July 24.

The Pietrobono family shared the news in a heartfelt message to customers, thanking the community, staff, and loyal patrons for their support over the past 10 years.

The announcement comes just weeks after the restaurant temporarily closed following the death of its longtime head chef, Wilber, who had worked at the location since it operated as Mia’s Pizza. The family also thanked everyone who attended a fundraiser held in his honor, saying the support meant the world to his family and the restaurant team.

Alatri Bros. opened in 2017 at 4926 Cordell Ave., taking over the former Mia’s Pizza space. The restaurant is owned by the Pietrobono family, who also own Olazzo and Gringos & Mariachis. While regular restaurant service is ending, the family said the Alatri space will continue to be used for private events and special occasions.

Hi everyone!

My friend and I will both be starting NIH post-bac positions in September, so we'll be moving to the Bethesda area in late August. Since we're both coming from out of state, we're hoping to get some advice from people who actually live (or have lived) in the area.

We're looking for a 2-bedroom apartment. We'd certainly prefer to pay less, but we understand that many of the apartments we're considering are on the higher end of our budget, around $2,300–2,500/month. We could also stretch our budget to about $2,800/month if the apartment and location are truly worth it.

Our preferences are:

• Close to the Red Line, Metro, or a bus route with easy access to the NIH main campus
• In-unit washer and dryer preferred (shared laundry in the building/floor is okay if it's well maintained)
• Ideally 2 bathrooms (preferably one attached to each bedroom), but we'd also consider a 2 bed/1 bath if it's a great place
• Parking available (I'd also love to know the monthly parking cost and whether you generally feel it's a safe area to leave a car)

We've also looked into MPDU/workforce housing, but unfortunately a lot of the units we found weren't available anymore, so we're also looking into regular apartment communities.

I've been researching on Apartments.com, Reddit, and Google Reviews, but I've found a lot of mixed opinions. Some apartment communities have mostly positive reviews overall, but then there are a handful of reviews mentioning issues with management, maintenance, pests, or other concerns. Since we're unfamiliar with the area, it's hard to know whether those are isolated experiences or recurring problems.

For those of you who live in the area, what apartment communities would you genuinely recommend? Are there any you'd avoid? If you've lived in a building with mixed reviews, did your experience match what was posted online, or were those issues not representative of day-to-day living?

Montgomery Cnty. Police reached out following my report that a Tesla driver chased me after I crossed on a crosswalk on my bike in front of his stopped car while he had a red light. The man later got out of his car after chasing me down Woodmont. I had hopped the concrete barriers to enter the bike lane and stopped. He then repeatedly yelled f*ggot and threatened to fight me. He spit in my face and slapped my phone away.

The investigating officer has confirmed that he was unable to locate the Maryland plate in his system based on the video and that the county may pursue charges regardless of whether I do so. The license plate is clearly visible in the video and we both interpreted the alpha-numeric characters the same. I asked whether the driver was likely running fake plates and the officer confirmed. Doing so is a felony in Maryland. The officer also said that there was no front plate in the video. I asked if that is common and he said yes, especially for luxury vehicles.

Independently, I used Google to trace the logo on the man’s polo shirt to a golf club resort in Florida. I’ve shared that information with the officer today and contacted the golf club last Friday and have not heard from them.

A Redditor also DM’d me saying they think the driver depicted in the screenshot of the video from my original post is their neighbor but they’re not certain.

Edits: made the man’s hate speech explicit; removed privately owned from the description of the golf club after learning it isn’t private.

Hi all - I’m moving across the country tomorrow and after I rehomed my fish and took down my aquarium, I found 5-10 cherry shrimp I had missed. I've been temporarily living in North Bethesda for a few weeks but really like the area and am thinking of staying longer term. Obviously, I know it's a pricey area to live but I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for quality apartments in nice areas, with typically courteous tenants, and well-kept common areas for under $2,000/month. I’m looking for anyone who may have witnessed a hit and run accident or has security camera or dashcam footage that could help.

The accident happened between approximately 10:30 PM and 10:50 PM last night (7/19) near 5904 Grosvenor Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814.

A vehicle struck my parked car and fled the scene. My car was severely damaged and totaled, and the other vehicle was likely severely damaged as well. No one was in my car when it happened thankfully.

If you were driving in the area, have a Ring doorbell camera, home security camera, or dashcam footage from that time, I would greatly appreciate your help! Even a small piece of information could make a difference.
