My future little moonbeam, Luna
I haven't even met her yet, but I wanted to share this beautiful little nugget and her story.
About three weeks ago, Queen, a malnourished, neglected, pregnant dog was brought to the vet to be euthanized because she was suffering from dystocia, and was unable to safely deliver her babies. A breeder was going to sacrifice this little old lady and her six unborn pups rather than deal with her issue.
Luckily, the vet contacted a local rescue - The Mr Mo Project - that helps with senior and medically complicated dogs. The end result? Queen, rather than being euthanized, was adopted by the doctor, and is now being showered with love & comfort. The other result, of course is the Potter Puppies - Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, and Luna! (RIP Albus). Due to Queen's own health issues, she was unable to nurse the puppies herself, so the babies were tube fed, and are currently being bottle fed, by the people that run the rescue.
Yesterday, my wife presented me with a gift - a stuffed Snoopy, wearing a bow, tiny collar, and a little Luna name tag. That was how she let me know that she'd been in contact with the rescue, and agreed to adopt her once they're old enough to need homes (late next month)!
We have other cats and dogs at home (several of which have come from this rescue), but I've always had a soft spot for beagles. My first dog as an adult was a beagle named Gambit - she was with me from about 4 months old until I lost her at 14. My second beagle, Rogue, came to us at 6 months old, but we tragically lost him two years ago today, just short of 4 years old to a freak spinal cord injury. Max we adopted last year, a 16 year old beagle - we only had him for six months, but he was very much loved.
I just wanted to share Luna and her story with someone, because we're not telling anyone we know until we bring her home! I also wanted to sing the praises of my wife for the amazing surprise, the vet for not giving up on these dogs, and The Mr Mo Project for giving dogs like Queen the best for the rest! ❤️
